There is much to be done ready for the next installment of gran turismo. It must be implemented. This is the kind of place in which i would like to test special kinds of cars, parts and other factors. A few essential special rules and procedures for formal use of wind tunnel in all types of operations must be done. In every way, i support this idea.

to be honest Dennisch there is a very big lack of development games out there. the best one I've played (which is worrying) is Street Legal Racing Redline. in it's shop state its useless but if you go to various fan sites you can get the latest fan made patches and a vast amount of cars, engines and parts. the game lacks an online function or any MP functionality for that matter which kinda sucks a lot!!

but to be honest I dont think a little development would hurt, it'd mean that when you bought a car you made that car for you instead of having 1000+ cars that every joe already has.

my two cents :D

There are so less optional parts for cars, that a windtunnel wouldn´t make any sense. It would make sense, when you have tons of tuning parts which influence the aerodynamics or you can develop your own parts.

Otherwise it would be a great rendering environment, nothing more.

This was planed, but not put in.

I'm really struggling to see what the point would be. How do you envisage this working? Wind tunnels sound cool but really they're only useful for aero development. Do you want to be able to sculpt your own wings or something? I'm not sure a single PS3 is up to any meaningful computational fluid dynamics.

As stated earlier, CFD is extremely intensive on computer resources. Companies who do CFD usually have cray computers (they could be classed as supercomputers). Also, a ps3 gpu (I know the ps3 has spu but whatever) does not have the mathematical precision for CFD

What (I think) he's saying is not actual modelling, but just simulated modelling, I presume just to tell you drag coefficient, what the drag limited top speed of a car would be, downforce with different aero parts, etc. Kind of like the tuning section but for aerodynamics.

Ah, that makes more sense. A very rough drag coefficient and a very vague visualisation would be much more possible. If PD were to set predefined drag coefficients for unmodified vehicles it could be even faster

Yea, and not that I'd really care one way or the other to see this implemented, but I'm sure they already have some variable assigned to downforce/aerodynamic modifications since they do already affect vehicle dynamics (included drag-limited top speed). This would just give a more exact method of tuning and allow you to see the effects prior to going to the track with it.

Holy crap, I thought I was the only person in the world who ever played that game!

In GT's case I'm against it unless they allow you to design aero parts for the car.

What GT needs is CL/CD charts for available aero parts.

Windtunnel would be interesting to see how much downforce youre getting and how its affecting your top speed etc. Ecu remapping would be good aswell, i think they'd both fit in well in gt auto. More useful than the carwash!
