Well since the PS3 is going to have Wireless controllers , how is the battery working hours thing going to work? if you know what I mean , I don't wanna stop playing something and wait for the battery to charge , don't know if this was discussed before on here if it has I'm sorry

I imagine they'd last quite a while. And you don't have to stop playing to charge them.. at the very least, the USB connection will provide enough power to continue playing, even if it's only slowly charging it. Then, when you're finished, just leave it connected so it can charge on it's own. I would think they'd allow the controllers to charge even while the system is "off" (i.e. standby mode or whatever they call it).

^ I agree, thats the sensible thing to do and it makes sense for Sony to do that.

They should have a good battery life, my wireless logitech controler for the PS2 has god battery life, so i would imagine sony will do a good job at it too.

With God's battery life, there really isnt an issue here is there.

:trouble:

It better not come wireless damn it. :grumpy: Why the hell would you do that?! seriously? I thought we went over this already!?

WTF happens if your in a C6 racing a bug and lose becfause your stupid ass batts?! ( refrain with the jokes  )

This wireless controller **** ain't cool. :grumpy: If they do only come wireless I'll have to pay $30 for a wired one? **** that ****.

must admit im not best pleased with the idea of a wireless controler, but if what Sony are saying about the PS3 being a home system aimed at people who need an all in one solutuion, and not aimed at purly the games market then i guess it fits the idae of a remote controle. as for charging, im sure Sony will give the pads great battery life, and that extra weight will make them feel more solid. just hope the boomerang shape slightly dissapears and we get the original shape back.

You must be new here.. Or did you miss the memo from E3 in May that said "Playstation 3 will have wireless controllers"?

And if you lost a race because your controller dies, it'll probably be your own damn fault for not paying attention to the flashing light and beeping noises and probably the big letters popping up on the screen saying "controller charge low". Just pause the game, plug it in, and keep playing.

Me, I'm 100% looking forward to playing wireless. I'm sick of tripping over the wires and consoles in my living room. In order to play, I have to pull the consoles out, halfway between the entertainment center and the coffee table, just so the wired controllers can reach the couch. Right now I've got two pulled out like that.. PS2 and Gamecube. And my Gamecube is being a b**tch because the video cables are stretched to their max, as is the controller wire. I'll be happy as a pig in s**t the day I can leave the damn things stuffed under the entertainment center where they belong, while I sit comfortably on my couch, enjoying the extra space in my living room I just opened up.

I suppose the only time it wouldn't make a difference is if you're playing in your bedroom, sitting on the end of your bed, watching it on the 13" TV that's two feet away, where the teeny little cable that it comes with is more than long enough. But for the rest of us, wireless is better in every respect. In fact, if Sony pulls a Microsoft and packages the "base unit" with a wired controller, I'll be pretty pissed.

Why should I have to pay for a technology that isn't surefire... You'll see the different set of problems it brings up, NOT SOLVES THEM. great example, a wireless computer mouse. Although I have to admit mine kicks ass.

Why do you think it's not "surefire"? There have been wireless controllers for years now. And unless you buy the cheap third-party knockoffs, they're all very high quality. Take Nintendo's WaveBird controller, for example. I don't think I've heard a single complaint about it.

Bluetooth is about as surefire as it get's, it's used in Cell Phones, PDA's, and a wide variety of other devices. Pretty much it's the industry standard as far as wireless data transmission goes, so wireless blue-tooth controllers is just cool.

I don't think they'll be that expensive, either. Even the Wavebird is only $35, and that's not even "standard" equipment. I imagine that PS3 wireless controllers will be around $30-35. Which would make them cheaper than 360's wired controllers. I doubt Sony will even offer wired controllers.

They should make the ps3 controllers kinetic aswell as battery powered......your always going to be shaking it around whilst playing....why not harness that power (swing arm = dynamo) to charge the battery even if its only going to provide a little extra power......

.......guess it would be too expensive to inplement......but it would be a cool feature!

Bluetooth is also used in Logitech wireless iPod headphones now. 👍

I can buy bluetooth headsets for mobile phones for between 50p and £1 per unit. It's very cheap to manufacture.

You could just charge one while using the other.

Hiya! :D :O  meow! (='.'=)

I really think that Sony will use its own kind of battery for the PS3's controller. Possibly like the battery used in the Sony PSP. :O

I can't imagine it'll be too different tp the 360's set up with wireless, but as it seems to recharge the batteries you need a plug and play adapter you won't be wireless if you're plugged in to the USB input. However if it recharges whilst your console is in stand by overnight then fine. But what happens with those marathon gaming sessions...you know 24hrs non stop!?

You use multiple controllers. Or *gasp* plug the controller into the console while using it.

Controllers will charge on phantom power from the USB port.

It's not going to be like some battery eating machine, though. You'll probably only charge it every other week. It'll be like a super-efficient cell phone.

Plug it in whilst using it? It's not wireless if you do that....and will the wires be 4m long (which is how far away my chair is from my TV)?
I had heard that the batteries would need recharging after 12 hours (this is for the 360). I think that's too short..well I hope it is.
Thing is you're given a wireless for free (well, I presume so) but you either have to buy a battery cherger or a plug and play recharger. It's not a question of could buy one..you have to (again this refers to the 360 but I'm assuming the PS3 will be no different.
Oh well..I'm sure I'll get used to 'em :dopey:

...yeah, like I said, this will most likely be the case.

which means the batter will eventually die..

and that means 20-30 dollars per battery..

Which means....What 7 max controllers?

up to 210 dollars in battery replacements....yowza

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I really think Sony is going to surprise again about this. The PS3 is such a high end system, so I am going to expect that they will have a high end wireless controller too.

Solar powered controller? It will have unlimited life since the lights come out from the TV and shine on the PS3 controller to recharge it. You can also count your lamps and room lights for sources of light energy also. :O

I hope that was sarcastic because that's ridiculous. You'd have to be complaining about xbox360 and ALL of nextgen instead of singling out Sony. All my infolithiums have lasted forever, and my cellphone battery has held the same week, two-weeklong charge for years.

These controllers aren't going to run normal disposable batteries. Those are what make things get expensive over time.

erm lemme think 💡

rechargeables dont die overnight. heck, it could take years and years to get it down to a state where its battery life is severely depleted, and by then you would have your PS4 or whatever. my mums phone battery has lasted 3 years, with the phone always switched on and only charged when the battery is low.

and batteries arent TAHT expensive. you could pick up cheap replacement non official ones for like £10 or something. just because it doesnt have a brandname doesnt make it useless

That would be a good idea, it wouldn't be too expensive either. The other method would be for them to use Kinetic energy, they'd pretty much never run out then unless you went on holiday but you could re-charge them in a minuet.

Solar power?!?! Thats silly.
Think about it, it would need a plate or a special surface to absorb the light. Also the intensity of the light wouldnt be strong enough, certainly not in my room even though I have a 55" HDTV. If you lived in Arizona and could carry a 10lb controller with extra surface area for light. Then, it might work. Did I mention you'd have to live outside?

Kinetic energy? Do you shake your controllers violently?? This might work if it could draw power somehow from moving the analog sticks or pressing buttons. I rarely ever move my controller around. You know, when you let a girl play and she throws her arms and controller in the air when she's trying to make the character on screen jump... well, that might work. lol
