Hiya..

I am having major, major problems with this device. It is one of those USB wireless dongles. It used to work when I had the Installation CD a couple of years ago, but not when I download and install files from D-Link's website. In fact, I can't even open the D-Link utilities program at all. I have tried reinstalling/rebooting and everything I can think of, about a hundred times.
Anyone with experience? I have googled extensively but nobody seems to have a solution. I also emailed D-Link about a month ago but they havent replied... (!!!) :grumpy: I din't want to spend £30 when I have this. But it looks like I might have to...

Edit: Haha.. Sorry. Seems I was a bit upset when i posted... =P

PROBLEM: XP doesn't recognize the device. It says USB device not recognized bla bla bla... When I install drivers and utilities it's still not recognized. And also, the D-Link Utilities program doesn't want to start up.
Any ideas? =)

Ehhh - Sorry for sounding like a retarded idiot - But what is the problem you're having ?...

I'm pretty sure you've already gone to this site.

It always seems like a no brainer, but are you 100% sure that the drivers you are trying to install are for Windows XP?

Try to uninstall what you have right now. If it won't go away, go and right click on "My Computer" and click "manage." From there go to "Device Manager" and look for "D-Link DWL-G122" or something of that sort. Right click on that and hit Un-install, once it's gone remove the device, you can then install the new drivers for it.

If all else fails, extract the file from the .zip for the drivers, then plug in the device and wait for it to prompt you to install the drivers. When you get to it, say you will choose which drivers to install and that you have the disk. Go to the extracted folder and in "drivers" you will find the .inf file. From there, just finish the installation and you should be on your way.

I don't know a whole hell of a lot about this specific device, so i'm sorry if I can't be of any more service.

Just so you know, I've been an IT systems admin, i've dealt with plenty of this sorta stuff, so i'm not just spittin' bs your way.:sly:

Yes. :)

Yup.

Nope. It says the file doesn't contain any information about the device, and XP doesn't recognize it as a dwl-g122, it's just an "unknown usb device". So I can't install it!

Managed to install the driver for it. But it is still NOT recognized. A couple of times it has actually been recognized as what it is. But then it has stopped working. Maybe it is broken after all..

A thought: Are you connecting it directly to a USB port, or are you using a hub? Make sure it's the PC port directly, and it should probably be a 2.0 port at that.

Not sure what you are saying. Its connected to a usb port to the computer, YES......

I was asking if you had a USB hub connected to the computer (to get more ports), and the wireless plugged in to that hub. That might be problematic on a network device, but it's irrelevant if you're right into the PC. I think it's just broke.

Did you get an error while installing the drivers/utility?

A lot of people have a problem with installing the software and can't run the utility program.
But they also have a problem with removing the software, but you don't have that problem, since you reinstalled several times.

I have installed a wireless network somewhere with a d-link usb dongle, but a couple of weeks after they asked me to install a wired network, because they found the connection to slow. Sometimes the signal strength would just drop without warning.

If you're able to have a wired network, please do so. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble and the speed will increase significantly.
