Wireless USB Modems & Networking

So... in the area I live in there is no such thing as high speed internet. No DSL no Cable, no Broadband.

My first option was sattilite. Well, that was to expensive for my taste.

So my only other option was a USB Wireless Internet Modem from Verizon Wireless. Which I did end up going with because I was sick and tired of living in the dark ages.

So, getting onto my current problem. Is there a way to get my PS3 online using this device?

This device accesses the internet through either my laptop or PC using its own software. I load the software each time, and then tell it to connect.

Is it possible to set up a network?

Thanks for all your help! I still continue to browse through the forums in search of answers, and this one I could not find.

I don't know if the PS3 will work with a wireless USB EV-DO modem, but that's probably not the best solution anyway. If I were you, I would consider getting a mobile wireless router that works with Verizon's services, then just set up your home network however you like. From there, configuration for all your devices would be no different than someone with cable or DSL.

That connection (if it goes at the same speed it does for phones) probably won't be good enough to game with, though. Downloading things may be alright.

Gaming is mostly a function of latency though... EV-DO has, I think, about 3 times the through put of regular dial up.

Jordan is likely on the right track with a router of some sort, I would say.

Ah, Jordan and GTPlanet come through again.

Earlier this afternoon I purchased a CradlePoint CTR-350 EVDO Travel Router that will work swimingly with my two desktops (with some simple modifications), my laptop, and most importantly my PS3. It is due to arrive on Friday, and I simply can't wait.

Thanks Jordan! I really do appreicate this one.

Glad I could help - good to see you around, Magic. :)

UPDATE!

I received it that Friday to which it then rode around with me in the truck for a week or so. Well yesterday I got it all hooked up, and was online on my PS3 checking out YouTube while my girlfriend was on my laptop. It seemed to handle the demand quite well. Only time it had a bit of an issue was when we clicked on a link at the same time. It just paused for a second, and decided which one it wanted to do first.

No complaints though, and I highly reccomend to anyone using a wireless internet connection.
