Wisdom teeth removed, won't stop bleeding

So yesterday I got two of my lower wisdom teeth removed. I have been using gauze like I was recommended to, but the wound will still not stop bleeding. I used search to try to find information, but all of them are about pain and/or the experience.

As weird as that is, it actually works. Helps with nosebleeds too as I get them very frequently. Thinking about getting those cauterized though.
 
argile. Will close the wound and is a natural disinfectant

I works though because salt water is an antiseptic. This is why, if you have tonsillitis, you gargle with salt water.

Gargling soluble paracetamol works for stuff like that too actually, doubt it would be that helpful with teeth though.

True, oh yeah, take an anti-inflammatory to avoid infection.
 
By the way, now they pulled out your wisdom teeth, do you in any way feel dumber?
 
^You can keep the teeths for that specific reason. Make a necklace out of them.

It's pretty normal to keep bleeding for 24-48 hours after dental surgery.

I do however mean oozing and not full on gushing. If it's the latter then get to the ER now!

Otherwise salt water gently swished around the mouth several times per day will help. Don't swallow it and you need to be gentle so you don't dislodge newly formed clots.
Also take an anti-inflammatory drug.

Didn't your parents ever have you use salt water when you pulled out your first teeth? Thought that was common knowledge...

Not that I remember to be honest. I think I just delt with it. Salt water in any other open cut though burns really bad.
 
I have toothache on one of my incisors, I was beginning to forget about it, until I read this bl**dy thread! :lol:

Anyway, last time I had a tooth out it was bleeding for a reasonably long time, and all I done was keep pressure on it with a paper towel. That worked, but I think salt-water is the best solution.
 
Oozing for a couple of days is normal. So is hurting like hell. I got all four done when it happened, no cutting, just novacaine and pliers, awake the whole time.

The worst part during the extraction was the squeaking sound as he rocked the tooth in the socket to work it loose.

You just scared the crap out of every 14-15 year old here. :lol: Well I was put out for mine and I was so groggy and drugged up after I don't remember anything until about 4 hours later. As has been said little bits of blood is fine but a steady flow at this point would require I visit back to the dentist/doctors sooner than later.
 
It turns out, tooth-ache isn't the cause of this pain, I have an absess on my face, also resulting in one half of my face being swollen to 3x the normal size. :D

Lovely. I'm planning on having one of mine removed soon. It's coming up in the wrong direction and is constantly getting infected. And it's taken years for it to come out about halfways.

Pretty infected right now as a matter of fact. 👎
 
^Don't wait too long. I know people who planned to get them out after the tooth is death, problem is if it's too rotten it can complicate things as they can brake.

I am one of the lucky few, my wisedom teeths are fully out, normal direction, no pain, normal denstity. Yeay, I use them just as my regular teeths so when they come oit it will feel wierd to eat.

Advantages of being a big mouth :D

But I do fear the day they need to come out, we don't have particular stong anestetics at dentists here...:nervous:. On the other side I don't even get an anestetic when at the dentist for normal cavities. Taking it like a soviet prisoner
 
Having my two top wisdom teeth extracted was one of the best things I ever did.

Both grew very slowly over the course of nearly a decade, at a slight angle and impacted against my back two top molars. The result was eventually both wisdom teeth cracked, became infected and caused me a LOT of pain and discomfort.

Having them removed under local anesthetic was a little intimidating but that half an hour of endurance enhanced my standard of living more than I could have imagined.

If wisdom teeth are giving you aggro, get them out as soon as is possible :)

I left it a couple of years while I endured toothache which progressively got worse and worse to the point I was happily self medicating in a desperate bid to get rid of the constant nagging throbbing ache from my poorly teeth.

Hence mustering the balls to actually go to the dentist and deal with it being one of the best things I ever did (I had a very irrational fear of dentists).

Idon't think it's the tooth that's infected, rather the gums around it. There's a sort of "pocket" of flesh around the back of it where food gets stuck. But I'm going to go as soon as I can get an appointment.

I should've done this long ago though.

It's very rational. There are some shady and greedy dentist out there.

I had a nervless tooth that split in two after eating porkmeat. A girlfriend with serious tooth problem gave me an appointement at a dentist that was labeled as very good (makes lots of implants,...)

First everything was ok. Than he took the nerv out of an other molar. Then the problem started. Infection, which was treated, but I now have a kist under the tooth. He suggested to get rid of 6 teeth.
1 was a kist under a teeth I had a long time already, then 1 wisedom tooth to get to the one he messed up (he never said it was his fault, they never do, it's always your fault :S). And as 1 wisedom tooth is out, the other could go too, due to symmetry. ??? really? Oh and yes he wanted me to sell 1-2 implants, depending on how the removal goes. That's 10000€ and a lot of pain and great risk of infection.

I stood up, asked for my file, and quit the office with a banging door.

Did go to an other dentist. No, no need to do that. As long as I don't get heart sugery and the kist does not open and spread on the jaw, absolutly no worries to have. And dental surgery is still in the infant shoes, there will be huge advancement in the years to come (cold plasma cutter, better treatement of infections and kist under the teeth,...)
Kist under a tooth: 80's : removal of the tooth - 90's: opening of the tooth and then closing it again - 2000's : removal and implant.

People fear of dentist usally comes from things like this whether it was in the childhood or adulthood.
