As the title says I been wrong about this track.

A little back ground I first met this track back in 2004 with the release of GT4 it took me over a month to learn it. But it never really click with me and I was never a fan of it no matter the game.

The game would have to force me to race on it, till a few months ago when I took my beloved p1 gtr on RS tires and I had the time of my life just lapping and to my surprise it changed my perception of this track. Now its one of my most use tracks in GT7.:)

15 years ago, I spent countless hours on Forza Motorsport 3 trying to drive around the Nordschleife in the Radical SR8 because of this video:

Emphasis on trying, because the biggest challenge was just completing a clean lap... Those memories are burned into my brain, and it's why I know the track so well now.

What is your best time with stock SR8?

Oh boy, I have no idea but it probably wasn't even under ten minutes, my main goal was just completing a clean lap. I played the hell out of FM3, but I was not very good at it.

...I do still have a 360 and a copy of the game, maybe I'll have to set it up soon and see what I can do these days.

I just pulled a 7:52.xxx in a stock Radical SR8, will post video soon...

People can shoot me if they want but I will forever maintain that the Nordschleife is a terrible track to race on. Testing cars and hotlapping on it, or just doing casual track days? It's a great track for that, but for actual competitive racing it's pretty terrible.

It's so ridiculously narrow, bumpy and high speed that for a battle between relatively equal drivers in decently fast racing cars, cleanly making a move is so difficult. Most overtakes I encounter on the Nürburgring pretty just amount to people edging and shoving their rivals onto the grass, or outright careening into each other in the high speed kinks and ruining races. and ofc since the track is a thin tarmac ribbon with a sea of grass surrounding it, pretty much any contact with that green stuff is fatal for your run.

Just remember Sir Jackie Stewart named it "the Green Hell" for just those reasons, look back in the history of F1 when they raced those high speed single seaters on that 13 mile track, the infamous accident that almost took Nikki Lauda's life. Is why FIA doesn't race F1 there anymore, in fact it is only GT4 and GT3 that compete there in the 24 hr race.

As the top end yes, there are a lot more lower performance classes :D
I think theoretically some of the cup cars have more bhp and lower weight but also lower downforce...

The fia banned gt3 (tmporarily) after the accident in 2015 in which a spectator was killed and only allowed the category again after some changes to the track were made.

The Radical is still an excellent car to learn the Ring in. And with the 600 pp race you can also earn reasonable money doing it. If you can win that race in a 600 pp Radical, you know the track.

I can imagine it being quite fun to attack the Ring with Racing Soft tyres and handy to be able to rack up the miles on. I have somehow managed to avoid doing a lap on this racetrack on full release of GT Sport or on GT7 so it has been over eight years since I did a complete lap on this track on a GT game. As a casual player, it feels like it takes forever to complete a lap so kind of avoided it and also don't think I ever done any online race on GT6 and yet to on GT7 for similar reasons.

However, from the few races I have done on it on previous GT game versions, I remember it being a fun track online to race on as you needed to pull enough of a gap to not be vulnerable on the long straight at the end or the other way around if chasing, be in the slipstream at the correct moment.

My take is the stickier the tire you pick to lap the Ring, the worse it makes the experience. Using the RH/M/S tires on street cars numbs almost all chassis movement and rotation. Will it make for a faster and easier lap time? Of course. But I feel one is missing out on a lot of fun by just hitting the "easy button" tire option.

The P1 GTR is no street car so the better the Racing tires the better it handles and it handles better with RS tires.:)

I was able to do a 7:55.774 in the SR3. On Forza Motorsport 3 in the SR8 I did a 7:17, but the SR8 has about 140 extra horsepower compared to the SR3, and Forza physics are way more forgiving. The stock tires on the SR8 in Forza feel like racing tires in GT7, while the SR3 comes with SH, which understeer way more by comparison.

It is definitely a track that demands excellent race craft to pass on. And add a little bit of luck to it as well. 😎

You need a willing dance partner for good racing at the Ring, it's so hard to pass and pretty easy to defend without being dirty.

It's always been my go to track, I love it. Any time it features in a Daily race, you'll be sure to find me there.

The quick races are casual fun, and the AI play by blue flag rules. Love it in VR, pretty much every day.

Best time so far of course there is room for improvement like.

I missed a few breaking zones.
I over break.
Some corners I can take faster.

6:25.205

Anyone else would like to try?

Nice lap there :)
I'd love to give this a shot. Finally something interesting to put the car to good use while the game doesn't really provide any races for it. Is the car stock or tuned and if so, what are the specs?

Seeing how many miles you've driven this car, including on the Nord, I doubt I could get close to your level of mastery.

Having watched the video, it indeed looks like you could improve your lap time. Not that I could do better though. As you mention, I mainly perceived some over breaking, and sometimes where you are not on the ideal trajectory (but never very far off).

The car looks very jumpy too, but I drive with bumper cam so I am less used to the chase cam.

Not easy to drive this car! I think it would benefit from some good tune (i really dont know how to tune a car).

I tried it and did 6:20, so that's the challenge now!

Had a go too, my P1 had 0km

Really not easy to control, was 3s late on @Chikane_GTR's first sector time (with a few meetings with Barry R. already) and lost it a few turns later and stopped there.

I agree on the fact that this car may benefit from some tuning.

This thing is quick! Adjusted the suspension and LSD for more stability (especially when hitting curbs). Maybe sub 6 minutes is theoretically possible, but not for me 😅

Here's my setup. Body rigidity installed, wide wheels, standard offset.
