Ok, so here is a two part question.

I built myself a Super Mustang with all the bells and whistles back when I first started playing this. Everything on it was top end. When I finished, that Mustang had 724 hp. Then I lost everything in a tragic save accident and started all over again. Now I have built an identical Mustang, but is only has 716 hp. What gives? I thought HP was a stable thing you could calculate, not randomly assigned based on the whims of the game.

Second, on my Mustang, I cannot get the tranny to shift past fourth gear. When I switch back to the standard tranny, every thing is great. But I checked the speed setting and it's at 240 so that's not it.

Any ideas?

Kevin

Horse power changes, when a car is new or from the used dealership then by changing the oil you will get more power.

When the oil deteriorates you will start loosing power, changing the oil again will put power back to maximum.

When you have done a certain amount of miles the power of the engine will start to fall no matter how many times you change the oil, you will then need an engine rebuild.

New cars with 0.0 miles will increase their power once the engine has been 'run in', something like after 150 - 500 miles or so.

I do not know why you can't get 4th, sorry.

IRL, many years of Mustangs have 5-speed manuals and 4-speed automatics. There are lots of vehicles like that. I don't use automatic very much in GT5 but my guess is that its intentional to add to the realism.

is 240 the highest? try going higher if you can or maybe the car has only 4 gears

This is with the 6-Speed adjustable gearbox. I jacked it up all the way, and it worked fine. Just another flaw in the game that should have been fixed instead of rushing it out the door for Christmas. Right up there with can't adjust the gears, crappy shadows, almost complete lack of Bump Mapping, unrealistic damage models (nothing like flipping ten times, then driving away from it), and having to wait for a patch to go online.

I hate to say it, if this is GT then it disappoints. I hope this is the rare screwed up release, but I don't get that feeling. The cars are fun and I even have learned a thing or two about Japanese cars, but that's about it.

Odd. I have not seen any cars where the gears did not work as expected. My Mustang goes through all 6 gears just fine.

Well, I can't adjut individual gears either, but from what I understand that's just one more flaw that needs to be fixed.

Yep the individual gears are not adjustable on anything sadly. They need to fix this and IMO they should allow us to adjust the top speed on the close ratio trannys as well.

As is they are pretty useless on some cars. Classic muscle cars for example most of them have more than enough power under the hood to hit the rev limiter with the stock tranny and the close ratio trannys hit it even sooner with 5 or 6 gears but a lower top speed than the original 4 speed. It the top speed were adjustable then these could be a good choice for these cars.

Also they need to keep in mind that the final drive can be set at the differential so even a non adjustable tranny should be able to have it's top speed increased or decreased via final drive ratio in the differential.

Obviously they intended for you to be able to. If you read the little help ting, it tells you to not just dive in, but make minor adjustments at first until you figure it out.

But, supposedly, allowing both the top speed adjustments and the individual gear adjustments presents a "difficulty" with the UI, according to a tweet. I remember the "auto" setting in GT3 over-writing the individual settings, so that was a "quirk" with the UI, I suppose. All it would require is a switch - basic, or "advanced" in the UI itself and there would be no problem.

I like the idea of an adjustable final-drive for the close-ratio boxes. It's stupid that those upgrades for the muscle cars (obviously geared for the quarter-mile) would retain the same top speed...

As for why you can't select past fourth, try changing the max-speed setting to different values (extremes, if you must) to see if it changes anything. Also, see if B-Spec Bob can find fifth and above. If not, you've found an error in the game. :)
