Word Problems...

Here are some word problems. See if you can figure them out. :)

1. Susan bought a combination of peanut candy bars and chocolate bars. If the peanut bars and the chocolate bars cost 42 cents and 35 cents respectively and the total amount Susan paid for the 17 candy bars was $6.51, how many of each type of bar did she buy?

2. The sum of two numbers is -23 (negative 23), and the difference of the larger and the smaller is 81. What are the two numbers?

3. The sum of three consecutive odd integers is 63. What are the integers.

4. Paige and Mary are planning a trip to the mountains. For the first part of their trip, they travel at an average rate of 52 mph, and on the second part of the trip, which takes half as much time as the first part, they travel at an average of 35 mph. If the odometer shows that they traveled a distance of 104 and one fourth (104 and 1 over 4) miles to the mountains, how long did they travel at each rate?

5. A jet travels from CHicago to Kansas City at a speed of 528 mph. If it takes a plane 3 hours longer to fly from Kansas City to Chicago when flying at a speed of 132 mph, what is the air distance between the two cities?
 
These aren't the questions the teacher assigned. He assigned the odd and these are the even. I just want to see if you guys can figure these out. I called my friend and he helped me with the other problems anyway. :)

In my Algebra book, The answers to the odd problems are in the back.

Of course, now that I'm making a post not entirely in-keeping with the exact nature of this thread, I'm violating every single rule in the AUP and TOS. I'll probably get warned, banned, and shot.

This is Algebra II. The answers to the odd were in the back of the book in my Algebra I book but not this one.
