I think you are struggling with the definition of "rookie". He is a WRC rookie, though not a rookie of rallying in general.
There is a difference between the rallying he has done before and the rallying in WRC. But he is not out of his depth and I think he has done ok. I don't see what the money has to do with it though, very few drivers in motorsport don't bring money. So everyone "buys" their drive.
I'd also guess he hasn't done a full WRC season because he doesn't have enough funds for that rather than he isn't interested...

Its funny you mention Raikkonen yet say "you wouldn't let a rookie straight into F1". I think you need to look up Raikkonen's history ;).
I'm personally not surprised Raikkonen is blowing him away, because Kimi is a great driver when his mind is on it. He didn't win races with McLaren without being bloody good. Block has never been up there with Raikkonen..come on, you are comparing a Formula 1 World Champion with a fairly successful stunt/rally driver??

I understand what a rookie is. To be fair, he hasn't won that many Rally America events and has never won the out right championship. In my mind, that puts him as a kinda rookie. I think he does have enough funds to run the whole season, I mean he's the owner of DC he has plenty of money, but he can't seem to let go of his roots in terms of Rally America. He's a nice bloke, don't get me wrong I think he's really a cool guy but I'm not sure he was ready for WRC yet, I think perhaps a spend some more time in Rally America and win some more events then in a few years time he'd probably be ready. I feel that Travis Pastrana was probably more suited to moving on up to the big league.

I probably should have looked up Kimi before mentioning him...but in my defense I'm not a fan of F1 so I don't have that kind of information on tap :lol: And yeah, I see your point. I'll admit I was wrong and back down on that point. I can't really think of a rival for Block really, perhaps Wilson. But he's been rallying for years but just hasn't achieved anything really...
 
It looks as if Rally Australia could move from Tweed Coast/Kyogle to Coffs Harbour next year. The FIA is set to announce the decision in a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday). If the event does move this will most likely spell the death of the Festival of Speed on Tweed, a sprint event for historic cars which is organised by Rally Australia. The No Rally group (the same group that threw rocks at the rally cars and caused stages to be cancelled last year) claim that 75% of people in the Tweed region oppose the rally, however the Tweed Council have voted 4-3 in favour of the rally.

In my opinion moving the rally to Coffs Harbour would be a great decision as Coffs already hosts a round of the Australian Rally Championship and New South Wales Rally Championship and haven't had too much trouble with the environmentalists (that said the greenies would probably oppose the WRC more than the much lesser known ARC so they could get some more publicity).
 
Well, a relatively un-eventful rally in France, Kimi and Ken had probelms but the Fords just couldn't keep on pace. Loeb secured the Drivers Championship too, so congrats to him. 👍 Not the person I wanted to win, but he's deserving none the less. Also Citroen got the Manufactuers Championship. So, that's pretty much the WRC wrapped up for this year, nothing is left to be really fought over apart from 2nd and 3rd in the next two rallies. It's a shame really, I would have liked the fight to continue.

But still, I shall look forward to what next year brings in terms of the WRC. I'll try and keep the thread updated for the next few events too, I've slipped up recently.

Not a great finish, but certainly a solid one for Mr. Block. 👍
 
Yet another 👍 for Mr Block. And that finish was even with a crash that looked like it would have taken him out. Guess it wasn't as bad as it looked.
 
I hope Petter Solberg gets some kind of factory drive for next year. He's been very impressive as a privateer this year. :)

I would imagine he'll continue with his own team next year in WRC. Or atleast have a supplied a car by Ford or Citreon but still his own team. In a similar way to how the Stobart Ford's run.
 
A DS3 would look pretty good in Solberg's bright yellow livery. :)
