Kind of surprised there isn't a thread on the new season of World Superbike. SBK 2012 kicked off not too long ago with the first round in Australia. This season marks the silver (25th) Anniversary of World Superbike. Race 1 at Phillip Island was won by Max Biaggi, and Race 2 was won by Carlos Checa.

The full schedule can be seen here: http://www.worldsbk.com/en/calendar-e-circuits.html . Here are the next five rounds:

R2 - APR 1: Imola
R3 - APR 22: Assen
R4 - MAY 5: Monza
R5 - MAY 13: Donnington Park
R6 - MAY 28: Miller Motorsports Park

Here's a bit I read on Yahoo! Eurosport... World Superbike will race in Indonesia next season at one of my personal favorite courses, Sentul. So it will be nice to see these superbikes take on perhaps Indonesia's finest course. Sentul served as a venue for the defunct A1GP series.

World Superbike 2012. Rev it up.

I was planning on making this thread then didn't.
I quite enjoyed the first round and I am really looking forward to seeing how the season unfolds with more than a few title contenders for both Superbikes and Supersport.
Another thing that needs to be said; Superpole at Phillip Island was cancelled due to a crash in the Australian Superstock 600 where 17yr old Oscar McIntyre lost his life. RIP

That supersport race was hectic! 2 good wsb races as well; beating Carlos will be very difficult this year.
Did anyone see the crash that stopped the superstock 1000 race? That was insane and his lucky were those 2 guys with a bike flying between them mid-corner!!!

Good race at Imola, I was hoping Haslam might be able to keep it with the leaders the whole race, but it seemed to take him a couple of laps to get into his groove, then he was banging in fastest laps...

Joan Lascorz had a terrible crash in the test at Imola on Monday and rumours are suggesting he may be paralyzed from the neck down. Needless to say, I am praying this isn't true and he can recover.

What a bad luck, I hope in future medicine science will progress somehow helping people with spinal injuries.

Imola, once again. I don't know what to think.

World SBK is back in action! It's Tom Sykes who qualified P1 for this weekend's races at Assen. Best of luck to all riders this weekend at Assen.

I enjoyed Superpole and I'll be looking forward to tomorrow's race. 👍

OMG what was Haslam doing?!? :ouch:

A race win thrown away :(

EDIT: More racing still going on though!

EDITEDIT: Nevermind, all the BMWs got jinxed...

And then Badovini threw it off too!! Race 2 about to start.

I lost count of everyone who threw away a win. Haslam, Rea should have let Haslam go as he was never going to stay on going that fast. Lowes did the same as Leon in the supersport race. Great second race though but what was Checa thinking; wets in that weather?! I know its Assen but it doesn't rain 24/7!

I'm getting this from Yahoo! Eurosport...

The winner of the miserably wet race 1 at Assen was Sylvain Guintoli on his Ducati as he held off Davide Giugliano by 2.6 seconds. Race 2 went to Jonathan Rea with a 2.819 margin of victory over Sylvain Guintoli. A note about this Race 2 win was that it is the first win for Rea as well as Honda's first win this season(?). Next round of World SBK is at one of my personal favorite tracks- Monza. That's right. Action kicks off on May 5th.

Honda's first win this season(?).

Yep, that's right. That was definitely Honda's first win this season. Only Aprilia and Ducati are the others that have done so, for now at least after a heartbreaking BMW victories being denied in Race 1 of Assen.

Comes Monza, I can predict the Aprilia and the BMW to be very strong.

The first race in Monza has been cancelled due to a bad weather condition. Hopefully the second race will go...

Yeah that was a bit annoying, I think BMW had a chance today, then Melandri went and threw it off at the Parabolica. Haslam was doing okay to work back up but then the red flag.

We'll see about race two. Monza looked drier last I saw, hopefully they'll get race 2 done.

It's all kicking off in the Supersport race..

Yep, only 8 laps were contested for Race 2. A shame really.. Tom Sykes were flying up front while the BMW of Haslam in 2nd. Only a second covered 2nd place to 7th place!

Maybe cancelling the races wasn't the worst idea. If anyone saw superpole you would realise how bad pirelli's tyres were at such high speeds. For anyone who didn't see, the wet rear tyres just ripped apart on the drying straights which would be incredibly dangerous after a few laps.

Agreed, but the situation shouldn't occur that the tyre supplier doesn't bring suitable rubber to an event. It's always been a high speed track, and it's not exactley uncommon for it to rain at Monza - how were they unprepared? The situation shouldn't have happened -- never get caught without rubber!

Anyone watching superpole today:)

Hopefully Tom will be pole again, Leon Haslam, might come close to.👍

Hopefully there will be no rain today, Donnington can get quite slippery.

Good luck to all the British riders.

Welldone to Tom for setting pole again:tup:

Starts today 11.30 hopefully it won't be wet.

Well! If people managed to take their eyes off the premier league today they would have seen some of the best wsbk racing for years! I really feel for Haslam since he did nothing wrong and was victim from a ridiculous move from Melandri. The bmw boss will not be happy with him but my fantasy team consists of Rea and Sykes so I am not complaining. Massive shout out for Sam Lowes as well for finally getting that monkey off his back.

My word Melandri.. So much fired up into the inside, ran wide and costed his race, his team mate's race and of course, BMW's possible second 1-2 finish. Very clumsy!

If it wasn't because of that, could've been a 1-2 BMW finish which will be awesome. Woke up to catch up the delayed broadcast, feeling good only to see them retired on the last corner of the very last lap... :indiff:
