A smoker in the United States found that he had bought the world's most expensive packet of cigarettes, when his debit card was accidentally docked $23 quadrillion.

Josh Muszynski, who lives in New Hampshire, was stunned when he saw the 17-digit withdrawal in his account.

I saw this a couple days ago, only with a restaurant.

Simple glitch not really a problem since nobody actually has to pay the money.

And the 15-dollar overdraft fee was a nice touch. In Florida, such fees can be a percentage of the check if it's a large amount, and a debit card transaction is a check as far as the bank is concerned. So, say 10% of 23 quadrillion as a fee? That would have been salt in the would, huh?

Is this suddenly happening a lot, or has this always happened? And why 23 quadrillion? Sounds like some weird computer glitch, like the 2038 date thing.

It was a glitch in their system that caused the charge on their pre-paid cards.

But really though, is there anyone that doesn't have 23trillion laying around?:p

Also, going along with the Visa theme, they unveiled their new logo today.

"Visa-helping the economy, $23 Trillion at a time"

Yup. Got mine in my wallet.

I like the overdraft charge. It's a great, sarcastic understatement.

"You just withdrew $23 quadrillion from the bank. That'll cost you $20 because you went a tad into the negative."

Glitches are fun. I had to reboot my computer with the recovery disc, and it told me my software was a trial and that it had expired on June 17, 2067. :boggled:

"Yeah, can I get ten on pump seven and the entire continent of Europe?"

"Alrighty, that will be twenty-three quadrillion dollars."

Wow, and I thought Marlboro lights were expensive.

You'd think that just maybe the bank would've automatically declined that payment.

Saw this turn up a while back. Still amuses me though.

Enough to bankrupt all the worlds super powers. I wouldn't like it showing up on my debit card it has to be said. :scared:

Aha! So that's what happened with my mysterious time-traveling first BlackBerry! It would lock up and require a reset, and show that exact date... and also a date in 1969. Hrm.

I don't think the paper my bank prints statements on would be wide enough for that amount at the font size they use.

And this is why I always make sure to get a receipt.
If you're total takes up multiple lines, that's a sure sign something's not right.

hahaha nice. If only the bank simply put that amount back into his account. He would actually be able to buy Europe then!
