What in your opinion, is the worst guitar solo you've ever heard in a song? (You can list as many songs as you want, of course.)

My picks :

Audioslave - Shadow On The Sun.
A real overuse of effects, in my opinion. The original solo that I listened to on Audioslave's demo tape was a million times better than the studio album, I wondered why Tom Morello changed it. Sure, it's a pretty unique, different and unorthodox solo, but I simply find it not too, um, 'listenable'.

Audioslave - Show Me How To Live.
Just one note. :indiff: I personally feel it doesn't blend it well with the song.

Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be.
It's somewhat of a weak solo and over use whammy bar whacked in here and there, nothing special, but I just hate the way it sounds. (People will kill me for this) This song/guitar solo is one of those that I really dislike.

And the winner of all... (in my opinion, again :dopey: )

Fred Durst's guitar 'shredding'.

That's all I can think of now at the top of my head.

\__________

Sidenote : Tom Morello is a great guitarist, but like everyone else (I assume) he has his share of 'bad' solos, in my opinion.

Just listened to that Fred Dust "shredding" and it was laughable at best. That's just incredibly bad.

the solo for "Walk Like An Egyptian" is really bad too. I heard a cover of that song by a punk band and thought that maybe the punk guitarist just sucked, but no that's how the solo really is.

That was pretty good playing! Not bad, dude! I have to say this because Fred plays like my eight-year-old son, who is now learning how to play. In just a year, my son will kick his ass.

A grown man playing like that, unbelievable. Then, playing like that in front of people. More proof of his suckage.

Fred Durst should be ashamed to play to an audience like that... 👎

There's a music which I can't remember the name (or the artist) right now that had the most lame guitar solo ever. I'll try to find out.

And of course, you always count on Kurt Cobain for a list like this...

My cousin could outplay Fred Durst, and he is also just learing to play guitar. Hell, I'd outplay Fred Durst, and about all I can do is strum. But what struck me most about that video was that people were cheering after hearing that. If the audience had any taste in music, they would all be laughing hysterically since that solo was about as bad as something from a teenage garage band. Oh wait, Limp Bizkit has the talent of a teenage garage band...

And Durst's horrid vocals at the beginning made it even worse for me! *insert rotfl smiley*

As for other bad guitar solos, George Harrison had a really bad one in one of the early Beatles songs. I can't remember the title though... all their song titles in '63 and '64 sounded the same.

Fred Durst's guitar 'shredding'.
As soon as I seen the name of this Thread, I thought of that straight away! When I first saw that, I laughed so hard. He should get an award for the most "pathetic" guitar solo ever.

Oh. My. God. Guitar shredding is too kind a phrase...

As much as I love the song, I have to say there's a piece in Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under" that I don't much care for... :indiff:

Per Gessle - Jag sitter på sten i en skog vid sjö ( Swedish S.O.B ) (:

WTF ! Who (did not) tought him to play the guitar !

Does anyone remember how EACH AND EVERY censored POPSONG of the 80s HAD to have a crappy distorded guitar solo before the final verse ?... Those will most definitely cover the worst "solos" ever !....

I think you forgot one exception to that. Beat It had a great solo, courtesy of Eddie Van Halen.

*edit* Ironically, right after I posted this, Panama by Van Halen came on the radio!

I hear those songs on my radio station all the time, which is why I carry my CD case with me everywhere I go...

Yes, it was either that, or a bad "saxophone solo". I think that's how the masses thought Kenny G was talented...

wildcard
Jimi Hendrix- Purple Haze. Doesn't make any sense at all, that solo.
Blasphemy! Stop muttering this evil talk or I will be forced to throw a Celine Dion CD at your head! :grumpy:

I second the Audioslave comments, that whole CD pretty much sucked balls, especially the lame solos. Come on Tom and Chris, you really expect us to buy this crap? What a waste of talent!👎

HILARIOUS!!! I just saw that fred DURRRst clip. That was just horrendous. Was he on drugs? Does he normally play like that, like its his first go on a guitar? Cause my flatmate (who tried my guitar for the first time yesterday) is better than that already, and has been playing for 1 day.

RE: Durst. My God! Even Nigel Tufnell can play better than that!
Even good guitarists have bad days, particularly live. But that was....:ouch: As someone said was he on drugs?
