Worth upgrading from DFGT to G27?

Lately I have been considering replacing my Driving Force GT with a G27 Racing wheel. The DFGT is a pretty good wheel, but I don't like the shifter. The H-gate shifter and clutch make the G27 seem very appealing. At amazon a G27 would be just over $300 after shipping. I originally payed $150 for my DFGT and would lucky if I could sell it for $100. Is it worth it to upgrade, or should I stick the DFGT?

EDIT: Not quite sure on the price actually, Amazon displays prices from $299 to $499.....?
 
Personally (as someone who used to play Prologue with a DF Pro) I think the G27 is worth every penny, First of all the wheel is almost silent compared to the screeching the Driving Force's and even the G25. The pedals are way better than the DF's, and the 6 speed shifter is a whole lot of fun. The clutch functions well, so it adds a lot to the experience.

The only issue is mounting. The G27 takes up more space then the Driving Force, but if you have a cockpit, or desk, it won't matter.

I would get something with a third belt drive for the apex on the steering wheel, when driving on straights. Only thing that bothers me with the DFGT, and it isn't even much.

I read some reviews before I purchased it and my general impression was that it was among the best wheels but the pedals was worse than others.
That said, I'm quite content also with my pedals.

I also only use the wing buttons on the wheel, haven't driven one single race using the stick.

Oh, and I could go ahead and buy a Wheelstand Pro without starting to feel like dishing out ridiculous sums of money on GT5, heck I also bought the Signature Edition *grin*

Give it some time and don't get all twitchy about what might be wrong with it. There are also some posts where G27 owners are demanding patches for the [improper function] of the clutch.

Well I've also used a DFP for GT4 for the past two years, so I've had plenty of experience using this type of wheel. I'm just looking to further improve my GT experience I guess. I like the clutch on FM3 but that is just on the controller so I don't get the full extent of it. The H-gate also seems a lot more enjoyable the just the 'click' shifter on the DFGT.

Also, after looking on the Logitech website it says the retail price for a G27 is $299 USD. :)
 
I personally don't think it worth $300 just for one game. Now if you are planning to get more into sim racing G27 is a good choice. Then you would want a Buttkicker as well. Between a g27 vs Buttkicker (since you already got a wheel) I would go with a Buttkicker as Gt5 takes advantage of it plus it can be used with all games.

P.S while I haven't experience the wheel Fanatec has the Carrera wheel for around $160 with a clutch and H shifter. ISR gave it good reviews on that wheel though. I would say that would be more ideal if you only want a wheel for GT5.

The guys at Polyphony have yet to address compatibility issues with the G27! I resort to using the paddle shifters because the cogs won't slip into second without at least 3 attempts. No programmable buttons either.
 
Neither. Get the new Thrustmaster wheel that is being made especially for GT5.
It will beat the pants off every wheel on the market today.

Good point. If it is priced around what the G27 is I will probably wait and buy it.

I perused the thread about this new setup here on GTP, and while it was a BEAUTIFUL looking setup, I believe it cost around $500 with the pedals. I'm more than happy with my DFGT currently, and I think that without the risk of grinding real gears or the feel of a real clutch slipping, I can't imagine the value a G27 adds to the GT5 experience. I guess I need to make some racing sim friends :D
 
Well I went ahead and ordered a G27, should be here Christmas eve. The new wheel coming out looks great, but I can't see myself paying $500 for it. I put my DFGT on craigslist, might also put my DFP but it probably won't sell.
 
My opinion on wheels is that if what you have does it's job and you are still fast/competitive with it there is no point in upgrading. Fair enough, if you have the money go for it, but in this day and age, spending huge amounts of money on a video game peripheral is something I do not buy into (pardon the pun).

I won't lie, in the past I have thought about getting better wheels, but in the grander scheme of things, that money could go to much better use on something else in your life. Just my feelings on the topic..
