Would it be a good idea to create a second "Realistic Photo Tread"?

The reason for me wanting to do this is because with near 6,000 posts, it would be quite impractical to view all of what this brilliant thread has to offer.

I already contacted the creator of the thread and he said it was fine with him except he thinks the the mods wouldn't like that very much and would result in them locking my thread and redirecting me to the original.

My main goal is to simply make the content more accessible, and that's what the creator of the original thread said he would like to see me do.

What do you think about my idea? What do you think of what he said? And if a mod is reading this, what would you do?

It would perhaps be better to ask this in the photomode forum, but if you want my opinion then I would say that if you were to make this thread it would just add to the task of looking through all those posts. I can't really see how you would make things simpler as you have no control over what people post.
I would suggest maybe thinking of a unique style of photo, and start a thread based on that idea. I'm sure you would find more success doing this.
People like to find things like this in one place, not two.
Just my opinion, but I also think the mods would close or merge it.
Good luck anyway:)

Yes and No in my opinion.

Yes because 6000 posts in, many have thrown realism out of the window. Or better yet, what one person sees as realistic, some others don't. So it would kind-of be a yes, it would be nice so we could get "realistic" back. (or something like that)

No because, well, there's already a Realistic Photo thread.

If you're trying for like a Best-of kind of thing, I don't see why not, but good luck sifting through the whole thread :indiff:

The only difference between having a new thread and simply continuing with the current one is people would know the earliest date/time of posts in the second one. Accessibility isn't really any different - the number of pages would be smaller, sure, but that's just at first, as a second thread would conceivably end up giant again, as well. I'd say stick to the current one.

The issue, like Dice said, is that "realistic" is up to each user's definition. I've seen some ridiculous, overdone, motion-shot HDR's in that thread, but I guess someone, somewhere, thinks it's realistic, and so, it is posted. What's really strange is that a thread for "realistic" images is over twice as big as one that simply asks people to "post their latest".

how about deleting the current " realistic " thread and the one starts it new has special privileges to delete the fullsize madness hdr pics , or a Mod is starting it new .. so no fooling because mod = god .

1 pic / week is total alright not not bigges as 640px imo

not because there are 6000 posts.... i would like a new one, where only pics straigt off GT5 are allowed, without editing

Good idea:tup:
Photography is my hobby in real life, but I don't edit. I am a member of a club that hosts monthly competitions in which I am regularly destroyed by the photoshop experts, so I understand the importance of distinguishing between the two.
Editing is an art form in itself, but I enjoy taking photos, not playing with them. Anyway, that was pretty much all off topic, but maybe there's your answer OP.:)

I kinda disagree... only to the point that if a shot lives up to the tag 'realistic' then edited or not shouldn't be frowned upon either way.........
so maybe ( and its only a suggestion ) the original thread should be closed not only because of the high post count but also due to a fair amount of the content not really living up to the thread title.
Start 2 new threads, strictly one for unedited and the other for post editing for everyones peace of mind.
I go along with things like a max size preview / max of 3 shots per post and some good to honest feedback, positve or negative as long as its constuctive.
Oh and no chrome painted cars and X2010's please , Keep it real..... My 2 cents:sly:

GT5 pic without editing doesn't look real at all.

I see a lot of them in Post your latest GT5 Pics Thread.

I think even the official pic like this one is edited.

I agree really, I will admire and appreciate any good photograph, but I am just saying I think it is a good idea to separate edited and unedited.
I do not have the time or interest to spend all my evenings on photoshop as I run my own business, have a family, and enjoy GT5 when I can.
Instead I may take an hour or more to take a single photo, but take it right. Not just stick another sky in to add a WOW factor, although I know there is more to it than that. But after all of that I consistently fail in competitions because my image is considered too normal, or real. Who knows?
There I go again rambling off topic.
The camera in GT5 though is better than any real life DSLR by a huge amount so I would like to see the best of it.
