Would This Be Considered "Dirty" Racing?

Say you're racing online and someone tries to run you off the track as you pass them or cuts you off intentionally, would it be considered "dirty" to bump them back? I'm not saying go full out and ram them at 150mph while cutting a corner, but maybe trading paint or forcing them to take a bad line into a corner? I don't really care, just curious on people's opinions.
 
Of course it's racing dirty. Any intentional bumps to another racer are considered dirty in my opinion. Ugh.. I hate aggressive racers.
 
Yeah I think it's dirty. You also thought it was dirty what he did to you right? Just let them be and fight the urges to get your revenge:D You can always find or create another lounge if it keeps happening.
 
Not dirty if they are pushing you and you are giving a little push back to stay on the track. Is dirty if you wait for the next corner to do it though.

Wait that's not fair :( What he's presenting is most certainly dirty, but I consider myself an "aggressive racer" and I would never do that.
Aggressive does not equal dirty :)

If aggressive driving isn't considered dirty then dirty racing must be clean racing.


All aggressive ways of driving are always considered dirty, keep in mind that dirty driving doesn't always mean ram someone off the track, it can be as little as intentional bumps.
 
I see an agressive driver as someone who brakes late and isn't afraid to try to overtake in some corners where most people wouldn't try. For example Kamui Kobayashi
 
For the record I'm not that way at all, just stating a point.

Oh, then our definitions of aggressive racing aren't the same. That's all :) Aggressive racing, IMO, is not bumping etc. (that's just dirty) it's going for the gap and going for the pass rather than waiting for the lead driver to make a mistake. 👍 No contact involved :) Just forcing the other driver to make the choice - they can hit you, or they can alter their line. Mind you I'm not talking about dive bombs or anything like that, just legit passes.

Agree that's what I do maybe mess up accidentally once or twice and tap someones rear bumper but I drive like that and sometimes get nudged back
 
I guess we have different views on it, my perspective is aggressive drivers don't really drive clean, so really I just consider it dirty racing.

Fair enough, then I guess I'm not an aggressive racer by your standards :) I'm definitely cool with that. Hmmm now I shall have to redefine myself :sly:
 
I'll throw my $0.02 in here. I think you have to define the racing series. In F1 where the cars are fragile as a piece of fine crystal, any bumping can cause wrecks. In NASCAR, it's a way of life.

Now intentionally going after a guy that hit you is retaliation because it's hard to determine if they hit you on purpose, or got loose, or simply had a temporary "lack of talent". Unless it's utterly flagrant, drivers do make mistakes--you just might be in the proverbial "wrong place at the wrong time" and get caught up in it.

Regardless of other comments in here, winning drivers in real life ARE aggressive, but not "dirty". There is a difference my friends. I race hard but clean.
 
Sometimes if we don't have any rules on then I bump them off the track just for fun and wait for them to catch up... Thats normally how me and my friends play GT.
 
It is dirty, but it doesn't mean it isn't justified! If someone rams you that gives you every right to hit them back. Go ahead and smash into him at 150 mph when he's cornering. He deserves it.

I believe it's okay to if you make a little contact trying to pass someone or blocking off someone's lane, in a way that's not completely taking them out, say making them crash or fly off the road. Scratching some paint and a little bumping happens in racing. It shows when stuff really starts to get heated up. But there is a line, some drivers really want to knock you off the road etc
 
If any of you guys have seen aryton sennas driving. That's aggressive. Not dirty. I don't think your situations dirty. As long as you don't push him off the track or cause a race ending moment (spin etc etc) then your fine to do it. Just expect him to do it back. :)

Matt Neal wins but he's a dirty driver.

It depends what cars people are driving that affects how I'm driving, I'll give out a little tap to the person in front to let them know I'm there which is ok (in normal cars no F1 cars or LMP's) but not plough into their back corner to spin them off on purpose.

It's dirty for sure I'd give you that but all racing drivers do that. Rubens at spa 2010. Same year vettel ruining webbers overtake. All I'm saying is that's racing. In the circumstances of the OP then I think it's alright to be a bit dirty.

Vettel was a misjudgment by thinking Webber would leave him space, Barrichello hit a damp part of the track and couldn't stop (most of the cars ahead of him went of too), the difference was Senna knew if Prost didn't score he'd be champion before Adelaide so he didn't brake at all (he later admitted it because he was angry with where pole was).
 
We are talking about racing here aren't we ? if you look at the stats most successful racers are aggressive not necessarily dirty though, if you look at the last 5 F1 world champions 4 of them are regarded as beeing quite aggressive , Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso and schumacher are all aggressive the one that isn't is button but he is no walkover either. So to me that says "if you want to win races you haveto be agressive" , clean but agressive.

In response to the OP i think to contact another car more forcefully than they have contacted you would be a bit dirty but hey they started it .I would like to quote a famous saying here. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

Good clean, aggressive, close racing is what I'm here for with a little paint trading for added excitement. after all we are racing in a virtual world and not a real world.
 
There's no such "Sweet revenge", since people eventually will pay their revenge back, and there goes the endless revenge cycle. Someone had to stop it.

It's dirty.

No vettel clearly moves across to webber. If vettel had any sense he would have backed off. He continued to fight. At the Monza 1000 in 2008 Mike Rockenfeller fought aggressively with the Peugoets and ended up clipping the Peugoets in the first chicane. That was an aggresive move. Sure rocky paid the price but it's ok to be a bit aggressive and a bit pushy. Racing drivers aren't supposed to settle for second place.

Depends...

At WLR we enforce the normal "Gentleman's Rule" of one block per-turn. If that block is sudden, aggressive or dangerous then a penalty will naturally be given, but the good racers pick their defensive line carefully.

However, lunging or barging to defend/pass is definitely dirty racing.

The way I read the OP, sounds like an incident last night at a simulator centre near me... I went for a move on the outside of someone and when already alongside they came across... I got as far right as possible, eventually with 2 wheels on the grass before he kept coming across. Inevitable happened and we touched wheels. If this is what you are referring to, I would be interested in knowing what the thought is on that. My view is that you should leave a cars width during an overtake / defense, so in having to move my car off the track like that the other driver was not giving me that cars width to make the pass.

I don't consider myself an aggressive driver normally, as whenever I try to pass someone there ALWAYS seems to be contact. Its usually blamed on the lack of vision available as well. It is difficult on these sims to make yourself "be seen"...
