Would This Be Considered "Dirty" Racing?

@ OP: yes, it is!

There's no such "Sweet revenge", since people eventually will pay their revenge back, and there goes the endless revenge cycle. Someone had to stop it.

Just wanted to add that i had my sweet revenge yesterday.
I joined an online race and one Guy directly bumped me off in the first corner of the free run (i didnt do anything rude etc.). Slowed down and waited for me and bumped me again.

I followed him a while and thought about payback and how to bump him into the wall. As i realised, that he was in no way a good driver i chased him through the corners (but did not touch) and made a clean overtake (just to see in my mirror that he tried to bump me off again). This was the point where i remembered that the payback is **** and that i need to demolish him with other means.
He went back to lobby just to start a new lap when i arrived at start/finish...
i evaded him again, let him catch up and braked heavily as he was besides me just to watch him make his move into the wall :)

So besides i did not do anything "touchy" to him he continued with this behaviour in the whole race. Needless to say, that i had a hillarious time watching him try to bump the air and vent "sh... fu... etc" on voice chat.

Just wanted to emphasize that "revenge" can btw. should have different faces.
Dont let yourself down to bad behaviour. Practice to humiliate your oponent is way better than boring revenge!

I think its considered dirty in the way you describe it. I'll give someone the benifit of doubt that they hit me on accident. But I will give them a very light nudge in the back if I catch up to them to let them know that I'm there. Nothing to remotely push them off of any track or steal a line from them. Sorry, I grew up watching NASCAR!:sly: But when its people that just wanna wreck people or just can't drive, I don't waste time in those rooms. I just leave.

And it goes the other way too. If I accidently nudge someone the worng way and cause them to go off track, and they come and bump me back, I understand and will let it go.

Mistakes happen in racing, it just sucks that almost every room I go into, there is a mixxed bunch of racers and punters.

Simple rule of thumb: If you have to ask whether it's dirty or not the likelihood is that the answer will be yes.

This. 👍 This is more or less the right answer for most questions about online racing.

I've had many situations of being put into the grass or run off track on the final stretch to the line. If I'm aware of a player who ALWAYS runs other drivers off the track, I just spin them out. ^_^

If it's a one off nudge or push I just leave it (so if you hit them it's dirty). If they are constantly hitting your car or weaving then I think a nudge out of the way is fair.

Matt Neal wins but he's a dirty driver.

It depends what cars people are driving that affects how I'm driving, I'll give out a little tap to the person in front to let them know I'm there which is ok (in normal cars no F1 cars or LMP's) but not plough into their back corner to spin them off on purpose.

Senna not dirty?! LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiGUSyN9-zk Cheating to win the title is the worst you can get.

Did you see what happened the year before? Prost pulled the same dirty move on Senna. What happened there was revenge and also a move of retaliation against FIA. At that time pole position would start on the right side of Suzuka, the side with less grip. This gave the person in 2nd place a clear advantage to overtake the person in 1st when the race starts. If you see what happened in 1989, Prost CLEARLY turned WAY to early into that chicane and crashed into Senna. Senna raced on despite a damaged car and won the race but was disqualified cause he drove off the course due to Prost hitting him. 1990 pre-race meeting, FIA talked about hitting and crashing with each other before the race, Senna sat in the corner without saying anything and Nelson Piquet brought up the incident that cost Senna the championship the year before. Everyone knew Prost pulled a d**k move on Senna. 1990 Senna just returned the favour to Prost. Did the same thing Prost did to him.

Of course thats dirty racing but it was initiated by Prost. Senna would come in contact with other cars, but he never meant to take people except in 1990 suzuka. Theres people online that clearly want to take you out. Coming down Fuji speedway's straigtht with no brakes and slamming into the car infront etc That's real dirty racing, but a little tap on the bumper to knock off your opponents rhythm, that happens everyday in racing.

Accidents happen. I usually give drivers the benefit of the doubt on the first or even second incident. Occasionally lag causes cars to move about on the track so don't rule out a computer error being the cause of the tap. If someone is along side you and gives you a few taps, just hold your line. If they are behind you and use punting or pit maneuver to get you out of the way, that warrants retaliation...or leaving the lobby to find another where drivers race respectfully.

.... but a little tap on the bumper to knock off your opponents rhythm, that happens everyday in racing.

Not aimed at this poster in particular, but to all promoting this as an excuse....

I raced extensively on-line in GT5P. With only public lobbies, you had a massive range of ability, experience and aggression. I was fortunate to have many amazing bumper to bumper races with some of the best GT racers in the World, in everything from Vettes on N1's at Daytona to NSX's on s2's at Suzuka to tuned S2000's on R3's at Fuji.

In my experience, even most decently skilled on-line racers have no where near the skill level required to be able to consistently judge the level of deliberate contact they are going to make with another car. Even if they were driving against another relatively skilled driver. Against the average racer, who makes erratic moves, brakes at different points every lap, slides all over the place, there's no chance of being able to know just how much contact you're going to make.

99% of the time, these attempts to gently 'nudge' or 'upset' the opponent end up with the one on the receiving end crashing, ending their race.

There are plenty of people who think they are fast because they can go in a public room, in something on race softs, and win by 'driving like a dick'... and then call it 'rubbin is racing'.

The interesting thing is that the racers who are truly fast and do have the skill level to use these sorts of tactics never use them. You almost never get racers who are fast AND dirty. The best can race bumper to bumper, inches apart, for 10, 20 laps, and never once make contact with the other car.

Don't confuse driving like a dick with being quick ;)

Well said Stotty. Racing with restraint and earning each pass is far more rewarding than using the excuse "rubbin is racing" after it's all over.

Agreed 👍
'rubbing isn't racing' at all. In Nascar contacr does occur such as leaning slightly on another car in a turn. However hitting an innocent apponent to make them crash is wrong. However as I've said, if you get a noob who thinks it's OK to ram everyone off the track, knocking them off the track is better than letting them ram anyone else.

Hit em back! Aggressive racing means effective racing which also means more wins. This is not real life, and no one is going to suffer actual injury if the result of your retaliation lands them in the ditch. It's a game, so bump back. You'll never know what their true intentions were, and if they were malicious they'd lie anyways. So if you're perfected in the art of bumping people around without any change to your driving line, then I say give them a taste of their own medicine!

You race to win and you do whatever you havt to do to win. I don't think wrecking someone is ok but bumping them or trading a little paint is ok in my book.

I usually try to drive clean, but sometimes rage overwhelms me. I'll admit, I brake-checked someone once. I was in a TGTT free run lobby, running laps in my Civic Type-R, and some guy in a Ferrari Enzo comes up behind me. Instead of going around me, which he could have done easily (we were between Hammerhead and Follow-through), he decides to sit behind me and honk (may have bumped me but I'm not sure). Instead of moving over like I probably should have, I slammed on the brakes, then ran. I finally got pushed off the road coming out of Follow-through.
