So, I was putting a game in my PS2 when i fell on the controller  when I did that. A screen apeared. It had the settings for the PS2! It said like what model it was, video output, speds, and more! Best of all, you could change it!!!!! I have no clue what I pushed or what the screen was. Has anyone else seen this before?

Eh, yeah. If you turn on the PS2 without a disk in it and let it boot, you get the settings screen. It's all self-explanitory.

Would sony actually allow people to change the settings that easily??? If so I figure either you cant actually change them or that its not dangerous to set them different.... any ideas?

How does that declair that you don't own a PS2? In addition, that's just dumb. Most electronics manufacturers like for their customers to be able to customize their products. It makes it more personal and thus more enjoyable for the consumer.

I didnt say I wrote the first post. I said READ IT.

Okay okay I will spell it out for you then. The first post said that there were settings for the speed of the machine, and that you could change it. So I asked if sony would allow people to change the speed of their machines, as it might do something worth voiding the warranty.

Got it?

So you combined two seperate thoughts into one string. Sorry, that confuses my simple mind ...

You can change how fast the CD rom reads ... but the speed of the machine I don't recall. Video quality, yes.

Anyway, it's all user settings. Most motherboard manufacturers put those kinds of options in the bios of their motherboards. It's basically the same thing.

Soz, guess I should have been a bit more clearer about what I was trying to say ...

Anyways thats cool. Guess its a bit like PCs hey where you can get into the bios if you know what to press and when (at startup) but if your like alot of people who use computers then you probably dont even know its there.

Speed of the machine - probably not. I only know pc's but as far as cpu's go the only way to change speeds is to overclock/underclock and then your messing with voltages and overheating etc. I dont know how ps2's work, like whether they are set up like a pc or if they are made different.

:D :D

The PS2`s architecture is nothing like a PC`s they use completely different types of processors. PS2 has a risc style cpu (reduced instruction chipset) and most PC`s have cisc (complex instruction chipset)

Obviously the only console that is simmilar to a PC is the X-Box. I wonder if anyone has overclocked/replaced the processor in that thing?

If its a P3 733 it cant be that hard (unless they have soldered it into the motherboard) to replace.

Ive seen smaller PC`s than an X-Box.

Its made my ms so it does have the same architecture (im not too clued up on the box so im assuming it does)

I'm not sure about overclocked or repalced the CPU, but someone has moded his X-Box so it is watercooled! hah! they did say somthing about overclocking, but i havn't seen anything on that yet. If you would like to see the watercooled sexbox, hit up the [H]

Spinny.

What with internet connectivity being put into consoles and the advantages of hdd's etc. do you reckon consoles and pc's will come closer together? Personally I think consoles serve their purpose: $1500 extra in ya wallet, and 1500 less annoying things compliments of microshaft.

Dude, Xbox's don't play CD-Roms, Floppy Disks, or MP3's. And to make it play DVDs, you have to go out and find an extra add on for it. No its not a smaller PC, to answer your question.

Who uses floppy disks anymore?? (Me coz I cant afford a zip drive but thats not the point)

But yes not being able to play cds on ur xbox must suck :P Even my psx can play audio cds. And there are countless things consoles will never be able to do in the near future that pcs can do.

And there is also the fact that pc graphics ability is getting quite astounding and quite close to ps2/xbox quality.
