WRC 3 has been officially announced with an expected October 2012 release date.

Only news so far is that the new game will feature a more advanced career mode and an improved graphics engine named "Spikengine" with more advanced lighting and particle effects.

Is it only me but I am not impressed by those screenshots.

Also after the 2 previous mediocre games I don't think they will nail it.
Maybe nail it as in the last nail in the coffin, because how many rubbish games can you throw out before going bankrupt?

It's not about quality, it's profit. If studios and publishers lived and died on quality, EA and Activision would've been out of business long ago... But that's for another thread.

Also look how popular rFactor still is despite being 5 years old at this point, so I'd also argue that it's about physics or at least authenticity, not graphics, so to rule a game out due to some screenshots is a little unfair.

I'm hoping this will be decent, my newest rally sim is Richard Burns Rally so I'd enjoy something a little newer, but also more realistic than Dirt 3.

With all due respect this thread doesn't need to become another Milestone bashing thread. The last one was and it was stupid.

WRC 2 was actually a half decent stab at a rally game. It was fun, had all the cars classes and rallies and tbh I dont know what more you need.

I just hope WRC 3 is good, last rally game I have enjoyed is RBR and I can't stand Dirt. We'll see how it goes.

With you on that MildAshers - I fully enjoyed WRC the original and 2 looked even better.

Three I'm already anticipating, though I'll need to get 2 first so that I'm all caught up before October hits.

WRC2 was a step up, but sound and graphics and the horrid colour tints detracted from it. If they make a much larger step up then this should be a decent offering.

I hope the physics system makes the Group B cars a bit more wild. I was driving the Ford RS200 in WRC 2 earlier, and for some reason it felt a lot more lethal than the one in Dirt 3. Granted WRC 2 has odd physics at times and a fairly average sound effect at times, but the sense of speed and "OMG this is suicidal!" was there. That's 1 thing WRC 2 and the first WRC has had over Dirt 3, it felt like proper rallying - narrow stages, pretty long (by game standards), and quite difficult at times.

I'm thinking with the Monte Carlo Rally having returned to the WRC we'll probably get a WRC Monte Carlo class or something along those lines... it would make sense with the Mini license as well, maybe Alpine A3110, Lancia Fulvia and Stratos, and of course the Quattro as well?

Then WRC 3 would actually shape up on paper a lot more favourably than its rivals. Dirt has gone with the arcade-style option now with Showdown, this is Blackbean's chance to craft out a true fan-pleasing rally sim.

I hope they support H-pattern shifters this time round and also on the PC, support for separate pedals and eyefinity.

Civic R3 and Jazz G2. PUHLEASSEEE

They're not in the WRC now if I am not mistaken? The S1600 JWRC was replaced by the WRC Academy Ford Fiesta's and since when was the Jazz a rally car?

DiRT Showdown isn't the next 'pukka' DiRT game though, it's more an interlude. I think because of that DiRT 4 will be more focussed on traditional rallying again, as they started with no. 3.

I haven't tried the WRC games yet because I've enjoyed Codies efforts so much, is it worth getting WRC2 or waiting for this new one to have a go?

Yeah you can get it pretty cheap, give it a go.

Might do. Alan at VVV has always covered, and has said some favourable things if also being aware of the title's flaws, but at the heart of it it seems like a decent effort.

Plus like others have said it's the only place to do a 'genuine' rally championship without going back to RBR or something like that.

I hope the career mode will be more realistic.
I want the full rally experience, not just jumping event to event, when its time for the "next rally" i want to feel like its time to get **** together and focus on whats going on.
Also some kind of persistent online experience would be neat.

Will keep an eye out, if they fix the career mode (maybe something similar to the F1 games) ill get it day one, hands down.

WRC1 was pretty awful, WRC2 however was a step in the right direction. The thing that killed it for me however was the very obvious copy/paste of art assets, and reusing routes across multiple stages. The stages reached Dirt 3 levels of laziness, but when all said and done I was just glad they were longer than Dirt 3's rally stages.

Wrc 2 was a not perfect, but is was a step in the right direction.
I wish blackbean good luck and I hope it will become a decent game.
Oh,and spend some time at developing a new Superstars v8 please :)

That would be nice... but this time make it so that in order to go around a bend you actually have to turn the wheel more than 10 degrees :grumpy:

Yes please ! I still like SSV8NC once in a while and the 1:1 competition has some nice new cars. Back on topic, I actually liked WRC 1 already and still have to get WRC 2! Better wait for WRC 3 than.

It is the WRC which does re-use routes, otherwise it wouldn't be authentic. Anyway, the routes that were used again from WRC1 have been notably different, so hardly 'copy and paste' work.

I finally got it last week and have no complaints - it's way better than 1 which I also enjoyed. Currently I'm doing Season 3 combined with some of the new stages in single player - just loving Greece and Australia.

I'm glad too that any crash doesn't reset you almost immediately. I have very high hopes for WRC3 👍

WRC3 needs more dramtic off-track excursions. Not "OMG THIS IS GONNA BE ~reset~"

From what Iv read so far...
Improved graphics engine
Improved driving physics
Rain and snow weather effects (not dynamic)
New side events like gatecrasher and demolition derby events
More details and images of all drivers in the game
New boss races introduced to the career? Race the top driver of the land
Possibly reduced finer details off driving setup and garage (Sponsorship, Mechanics etc)
I also think they hinted at re-recorded sounds for cars and co-drivers.

New video -

Graphics are a huge improvement! Glad they finally changed the cockpits aswell. What's with the GPS track map at 4:54?
Disappointed that Great Orme is still in a forest instead of on that narrow coastal road on the side of a cliff. Didn't see any changes to Finland either.
Everything looks improved apart from the handling, which I really enjoyed in WRC2. Hopefully it was just a bad driver but rear grip looks about non existent.
Armindo Araujo at the end playing as himself.

I'd say that was just some spectacularly bad driving :)

Funny though how Wales looks more like the original DiRT while other stages are distinct improvements on the previous WRC visuals and seemed just right graphically. Looking forward to Monte Carlo, I can say that right now.

Thanks for posting.

That does look really impressive; although I remember saying the samething about early screenshots of the last game, and then the final release didn't look nearly as good.
