I've really gotta stress that street cars are now awesome, especially at lower powers... The entire game is setup now so that slower cars from gt3 now seem a whole lot faster and more controllable.

I will agree on this. I was pretty impressed with the feel of the A3 on the A license test on Grand Valley East.

I finished B license and got to the coffeebreak, and also finished a10 and a11. The coffeebreak was pretty hard for me, since my controller is worn out.

Got the game yesterday, and I am very satisfied, but I'm still getting used to the much different handling characteristics and physics of the cars. The tracks are beautiful, and this is where I can see the most improvement in the graphical area. Got through A and B licenses so far, and some of them look like they will be impossible to gold with a DS2. I can already see the DFP users will have a huge advantage due to the aforementioned binding, which occurs whenever you try to turn with the analog stick. The selection of cars is awesome, and I decided to go with a beautiful BMW M3 '04 for my first car, and it handles incredible from what I can tell, though I have limited experience. Right now the only gripes I have are with the Coffee Breaks, can't stand them, and the pace car. I don't really see the need for the pace car.

Finally got all gold on the B license. Time to move on to A. Laguna Seca was the last to fall.

I'm really loving the physics in this game. The wheel seems so much more real, it makes playing with the wheel a LOT more fun.

The Coffee Breaks are fun ;) You don't need to Gold them in order to complete your licenses, and also, even if you do gold them, they do not count toward the final amount of medals that you get at the end. So, don't bother with them too much - just take it extremely slow and go for bronze, which has no time limit.

The purpose of the pace car, in my opinion, is such that people can learn the lines and have something to follow and that teaches them how to drive/keep the correct line. I would say the pace car has an educational purpose. I have read in other threads that the faster YOU go, the faster the pace car goes as well, therefore allowing you to gold those licenses.

By the way, anyone has any advice on how to pass the Driving Mission with the Skylines on the Test Course? I have tried it a bizillion times, yet with no positive outcome. There must be some sort of strategy that you have to follow - like slowing down a bit, in order for the 'pack' to catch up with you and pass you again, so that you can take advantage of the aerodynamics and get another boost in speed... Then keep doing that until the finish line. I tried it, but no results. Can somebody help me out a little? ;)

The Wizard.

Hey danoff. FYI, there's a term for what you are describing. It's called binding, and GT4 does a pretty good job of modeling it as it happens to real life cars as well.

Glad to know what it's called. I'm learning to use it a bit now. When I enter a turn too fast sometimes I need to slow down but don't want to throw the weight of the car around with the breaks - so I throw the wheel too far and "bind" the front tires to slow me down. It works fairly well, it's not the fastest way to get through the turn obviously but it can help get you out of a jam.

Just finished winning my IA license, and it was incredible. The graduation test on the Mulsanne Straight was . Off to the super licesnse :sly:.

Finished getting all golds on the A license. Got the skyline as a reward! I had to switch the steering from simulation to professional to complete the rally tests and it turned out that I'm faster all around with the professional setting - so I'm leaving it that way.

Time to move on to IB

Anyone want to try swapping some Max Drive replays to see how it works? Post some up and I'll see how it goes. Here's some replays I zipped together...if someone has a Maxdrive (especially with a PAL or Japanese/CHN GT4) d/l these and see if the replays may be compatible between versions. I doubt it, but it doesn't hurt to try I guess.:)

Finished my IA licence this morning ... the last two tests, 1 lap of the nordschleife and the muslane straight were scary fun. So now I've got all gold on B, A, IB, and all silver on IA. I think I'll leave the super licence for a bit until I've gotten to know some of the new tracks a bit better.

Took the Nismo 270R that I won for the IA licence and ran the capri rally, won the Toyota RSC rally car and sold it for a cool $265,000 cr :D Now I'm just trying to decide where to go next!

Go buy a mercedes and race the silver arrow race.. then take the CLK touring car to the german touring car championship. Rinse and Repeat for your path to financial freedom!

There is way too much to do in this game, I still dont' know where to start. I've golded all B's and have the graduation test on A still left to Gold. Have my IB license and a few more left on IA to get the license. I've only had 1 or 2 hours here or there so I haven't tried golding everything yet. sooner or later. I've done a few of the Mission Hall which is pretty sick.

Most of all I've just been running hotlaps.
Nurburgring in a civic type r '98

and the most fun I've had so far is running hot laps in a Mini Cooper S on Citta Di Aria.

I've done very few actual races. This game is going to take a long time to finish.

EDIT:

OFF-TOPIC: Luxy or any other TORONTO people, my friend *MIGHT* be holding a GT4 tournament soon, they typically do Halo 2 tourney's but there's a lot of demand for a tournament for GT4. Let me know if you're interested, the more people interested, the easier it will be for them to justify holding a tournament.

Hey again,
Just stopping in to update my progress.

Lost my pc to bad luck so to speak but have still had time for gt4.

Over 25% now. 👍
Lots of great cars including a few LMs and a few touring cars.

Oddly though, the '61 Jaguar is the best thing I have driven based on the way it feels.

Plus, it's leading me straight through the 1000 mile enduro race championship in the Euro league.

In a few days I will be back with a long post about my progress but until then...
Gotta run for now... class in just a few minutes. :(

Till then,
Btw, thanks again P.

Making slow but steady progress with GT4.
Its been an experience! Since I got the game last Wednesday I'd barely touched it, thanks to spending the weekend back up in Tahoe doing some more snowboarding.
I tried a couple of arcade races in some older cars just for fun, and was surprised by just how difficult it was going to be to try & drive this game like I have the past 3 incarnations of GT, namely with the D-pad!
This game was built with nothing but the wheel in mind. So I've given in and acquired a 2nd hand wheel from a colleague of my wife's. Its the original DF with force feedback. I'm on a very steep learning curve to try and get used to it!
Still, I've decided that the best way to prepare me for the exploits to come when there's other cars on the track, is to try & gold all the licence tests before I do any racing.
So far I've got the first 14 golds, and the coffee break for the b licence. Some were easy, some took some considerable time! Will keep at it and hopefully I'll learn to love this damned frustrating wheel!!

GT4 was mainly built around the 900 degree Driving Force Pro wheel. You should try purchasing that. You'll love it instantly over the regular driving force. I spent $150 and I don't regret spending any of it.

K, newbie here. I loved GT1-3 and now love GT4. I do not have my copy of GT3 anymore but wish to partake in the WRS. Does anyone know when it will start and how I get into it without being bale to post my time from GT3, Midfield, EVO? Please PM to let me know. I look foward to some stiff competition.

I find GT4 superb and I'm using a trusty old DS2 :) I can see the wheel advantages on a couple of tracks! ... but overall I reckon that the DS2 can give the DFP a good run for its money ..... in the right hands of course :sly:

Finished up all golds on the IB license... time for IA.

The hardest IB license for me was the cone slalom. I spent quite a while figuring out how to gold that test. Ice driving took some getting used to as well.

Now that's what I like to hear 👍 👍

I've been a devout D-padder for many many years, but I could just never take to the analogue sticks. The fact that the steering on the D-pad is digital, either full on, or full off, means that its tricky to drive in GT4, where 90degrees of full lock tends to result in the car binding means that I'd have to try and learn the analogue sticks :yuck: . Or get the wheel!

I decided not to import any licences or credits from GT3, that's just cheating! 👎
I've just finished the b licence, all gold. Won 3 cars for my trouble.
Volkswagen Lupo 1.4 '02 100HP in a rather awful fluorescent yellowy colour.
Mazda Kusabi '03 150HP cool looking concept hatchback in silver.
Honda S500 '63 44HP in Elephant Gray, nice looking little classic that is presumably the distant predecessor of the S2000.

a licence here I come!

I agree about the D-pad vs. Analog debate. In GT3 I just tapped the D-Pad for gradual turns, and hit it for hard turns. For GT4, I HAVE to use the Stick, but I picked it up quite nicely. I love it now. Wish I had $150 for the new Wheel. Sounds PIMP!

I was really happy when I got to the Elise test at HSR in the A licence and realized that not every car understeers like it's delivering bricks to a pyramid construction project. Most of my problems have just been keeping the cars on the track.

Wow! I see what you mean! Took me about 20 mins to get gold on A1, with the FTO, just got in the Elise now, Gold time is 28.000s. 1st attempt was 28.082!
2nd completed attempt 27.766! Now I'm wheelly getting to like this wheel thingy! :)

*Edit* Is it just me or are the a licence tests easier than the b's? Just got Gold on A3, 11.883s on 1st attempt!

For one, I just cleared the Beginner Series. Long, painful, but a good place to start. What gets me is the lack of a prizecar at the end of it...

sup guys, after achieving gold in license tests 1-79 with only test s-80 left to gold (lap of the ring) my saved data was corrupted. after not touching GT4 for a day or so because i was so pissed off i went ahead and imported my a and b licenses, but not the 100k cause i think that would make the game less interesting. After buying myself an 89 skyline in which i beat the biginner FR series and another series i decided that i had to have those licenses.

And so i went back to the license center, Got all golds on the B license in less than 45 min, skipped the A license and went right to IB and IA but then i got bored and so as of now i am sitting with 35 golds and 13 silver medals. Once i feel the need for golds again i will just go back, for now i just tell myself "you already got them, except for S-80 of course". I am about 6 % complete with the game, most of the beginner series are completed and missions 1-17 in the mission hall. Mission 17 was by far the most fun, an Audi R8 at Infeneon Raceway was just great.

The cars in my garage are very much slow and so i want some faster ones. 👍 Now that i have driven that R8 i need to have it :sly:.

Well... thats it for now. I am looking forward to the GT4 WRS.

Quick question.
Has everyone that did the b licence all gold won the same cars I did? Or is it a random thing? I did like how it warns you this time that the cars you're winning are a one time only thing, and cannot be obtained again. Makes the keep it / sell it decision much easier, especially if you're an avid garage filler like me! I tend to try and keep at least one of everything in my garage, but I'm not sure if the GT4 garage is big enough to do that. Does anyone know?

*edit* before some pedant points it out, that's actually 3 questions! Would like answers to all three though!!!!

None of the cars in the game are random, including licence prize cars. The only differences are you get different colors sometimes. Your garage can hold 1000 cars so you have room for one of each car and a couple hundred doubles.:)

How far are you guys percentage wise? I'm around 31% at the moment, and have nearly 70 cars. My best one so far is the Toyota 88C-V 9 (spelling?), and I've unlocked the extreme and endurance halls. Lately I've been doing a lot in mission hall, and I have the one at the nurb, and a couple 3 lappers left to do 👍.

I'm still only at about 15% ... done the beginner hall and a couple of races in professional hall. Haven't tried mission hall or Special Conditions Hall yet.

One thing that's frustrating me is the inconsistent track choices in some of the series. I was running the British GT Car Series in Professional Hall in a Jenson Interceptor. The tracks for the series are:

Grand Valley
Fuji Speedway
El Capitan
Infineon
Midfield

On the "power tracks", it's tough to finish first, but on the other tracks, I smoke the field by 10+ seconds :grumpy:

...

On another note, I spent a long time the other night running an RGT in the NA and Boxer series in Professional Hall ... I love that car :D It's even better in GT4

A wonderful pearl of wisdom from my colleague! He posts here very occasionaly as DaveS1138, but I got this from him by e-mail this morning & it made me laugh, so I thought I'd share it!

I finished the first 10 missions in mission hall and was awarded a nice shinny DeLorean.... But when I get it up to 88mph nothing happens :( Am I doing something wrong?)
