X Box Controller for pc??

Does anybody know if the X box controller will work for PC?

Because I want to get Halo: Combat Evolved for PC and I was wondering if I can use the X box controller for it?

There is an adapter that can convert the x box controller into USB..I was just wondering if the controller is going to be compatible with Halo for PC or if you can even use a controller at all?

You only need one thread. Why would you want to use a controller anyway? A keyboard/mouse is much better.
