X1 Breaks + Hand Break = Super Breaks?

I may be wrong, and maybe someone can test this to confirm or deny, but it seems that when the E-brake is applied on top of the normal brakes the X1 slows down substantially faster.

I did try to test this out in a 200mph to 0 test earlier but wasn't in a very good setting to verify anything. What I CAN tell you is that it helps you go into a hairpin but you have to be careful because it will spin you around quite easily.

I just wanted to point out that the word you're looking for is 'brake' not 'break'.
(I don't mean to be rude, I'm an English teacher is all.)

Well...as far as I know, the ebrake on most cars just locks the back wheels mechanically so you don't roll away. In GT (or any video game for that matter) it's either on or off so I don't see how locking up the rears will help you stop. Maybe because of the x2010's differences between most cars who knows...

Ya, I understand how an emergency brake works in real life. I don't assume that there is a real life explanation for the X1 slowing quicker with its use (Assuming that it actually does and it isn't just my imagination)

What I am wondering is if there is a "glitch" similar to the one I have heard mentioned in the F1 series.

it does but it can very easily just spin the car considering how sensitive the car is to steering

its even harder if you are trying to cut time off and use it to drift around a corner. It will save time, but high chance of you spinning out or going outside the track
 
I don't think it would make the X1 stop any faster. The rear tires will flash to red, ultimately giving you less traction in the rear tires.

Although it sounds right, physics comes to kick us all in the nuts again.

I was actually having a good deal of luck with it while running around the first endurance race (midfield? I can't remember) there are 4 turns on that track that can be taken quite a bit faster by braking much later into the turn. If I tried to brake normally at the same point I would end up in the sand every time.

Again, I don't think it makes sense in a real life setting. It wouldn't help for the same reason anti-lock brakes can stop a car faster than normal brakes. I DO hate using anti-locks in real life though.
 
when I drive my roommate's Eclipse, the power steering and ABS freak me out and detract from the driving experience.

I wanted to point something out here.

In most real-life settings, a driver with amazing brake control can stop a car without ABS faster. (That gap is shrinking more and more as ABS becomes more advanced).

There are also some situations IRL that ABS is useless.
Stopping on ice, water covered ice, or a soaked road that causes the tires to hydroplane.

Stopping my car IRL up here is a bit of a challenge because i have to push the brakes to the point where they are just about to engage ABS. (On ice here in AK.) As soon as ABS has to engage, I know that the car will slide more than I want it to.

Back on topic: I would assume that the Handbrake in an X2010 shouldn't be able to lock the back brakes from a high speed. The reason is because that thing produces insane amounts of downforce. That thing must have VERY strong brakes to lock them on a car that has at least 2,000 lbs. of downforce (at high speed).
 
Handbrake or E-brake just applies brakes to the rear wheels (usually locking them up). The pedal applies the brakes in this manner anyway. if it does stop the x1 faster using this method man something is wrong haha

If you are able to ride that razor thin line between locking up the tires and using 100% grip to stop then you can in fact stop faster with out ABS. What I was getting at is that locking up the back tires on the X1 would be not help in the same way the locking up your wheels on ice does not help.

I am sure that as a fellow Alaskan your learned at a young age to tap your brakes to get a little bit of traction and control back when sliding on ice. I am lucky to have a sensible wife with good driving skills because I don't have to fear the fact that we don't have ABS on our Fusion.


Now back to the X1. I really wasn't trying to find a logical, physical explanation as to why it stops faster with the addition of the E-brake. This is a video game and only the things that have been programed into it can have any bearing. I don't think analyzing the way braking systems work in real life can help determine what the X1 is doing. Either applying the E-brake in the game helps slow it down or it doesn't. Next time I get a chance to test it out I will come back with more definition.

Well, first: It's nice to know that I'm not the only one in Palmer that plays GT5. You have no idea :lol:.

Second: Since I don't have an X1, I can't test this, but I may grind to LVL 30 A-spec to unlock the Vettel Challenge to get an X1 to test this out.

Also, apologies for not noting your location when I started reading the topic. :O I should have paid more attention to that.
