Unbelievably it looks worse than his first attempt!

You didn't think I meant the RBR/PD prototype did you? ;)

Sir Clive Sinclair to release a modern C5 - the X1 electric bike

It has taken a long time for him to have another go, but Sir Clive Sinclair is clearly convinced that his C5 electric car/bike from the 1980s was a concept worth persevering with.

The British inventor intends to release a new take on his much-derided flop, another electric bike called the X1.

This time around Sinclair might have more luck as the interest in electric vehicles is on the rise, suggesting that his C5 was ahead of its time.

The X1 is a pedal powered vehicle that is assisted by a lightweight lithium polymer battery, and can be driven by anyone over the age of 14 in the UK. Instead of the open arrangement of the original, the new Sinclair comes with a curved plastic bubble-like body to keep the occupant protected and mildly shielded from the elements.

Perhaps because of the C5 legacy critics have been quick to jump on the X1, suggesting it will be underpowered and struggle with potholes. It is expected to arrive from July next year, and will cost from £595.

Why wouldn't you just ride a bike?

Yes that would work too. And it doesn`t make you look like a total moron. Unless you are riding a fixie or wearing one of those tight... yuck.

Why would anyone buy something like this? But then again why would anyone buy a Segway? (well noone did) Maybe it will become the british version of the segway:dopey:.

I think I want my Bianchi back from my brother, now.

Hell, this thing'd go further if it actually HAD pedals.

Did anybody else come in here hoping to the the X1 in question was the Polyphony X1 Prototype from GT5?

Because I sure did. And damn if I'm not disappointed about it.

Because I sure did.

When I read the thread title I was wiondering what the fuss was about, the BMW X1 has been in production for ages :P.

Has anybody ever ridden/driven a C5? I think they'd be cool to race on a cart track.

How do you get going/stop with that thing?

It just looks like a GCSE design project for the brief "people get wet when cycling, create a budget design that solves this problem." Shame all the spray off traffic will soak you from the side.

I forgot about the BMW X1...sorry about the thread title guys but I couldn't resist.

I've never had a go of a C5 but I've seen a few on the road over the years normally being peddled by someone resembling a geography teacher :P

You cheeky bugger , and you're right it does even look worse, at least the original C5 looked slightly futuristic for about a week in the eighties.
That new "attempt" just looks like an old bicycle with a polyester cabine put onto it....

Of course not, that never came into my mind :D.

Don't worry, the joke was nice 👍. I must confess, however, that I got a little disappointed after reading the first post. I like RBR X1 design very much, and I'd love seeing that car going into production.
