I just sent Bob out on another run through the Dream Car Championship to earn daddy some money. The race at Le Mans just started and it was pouring down rain. Some of the hardest rain I've seen yet.
So, I put on the rain tires and send him out.
He takes off the line and shots past everyone, of course, and he is throwing up a huge rooster tail of water.
As he goes through the switch backs, the camera is shooting him from front, looking back (on the television camera).
As he enters the one corner it looks for a minute like there was a fire behind him. Maybe just the exhaust back fire I thought.
Then he came up to the sharp bend before going onto the straight and the television camera was doing a somewhat far away shot. All of a sudden it looked like this huge fireball exploded behind the car! I was shocked. What did Bob do to this thing?
When he got onto the straight, it disappeared.
And then as he entered the first chicane it happened again.
This time the camera was a slight side angle, letting me see exactly what was happening.
He was slowing for the corner and the brake lights were coming on and in the massive rain, they were lighting up the rooster tail like a Christmas tree!!
Has anyone else seen this before? It's quite amusing and even after figuring it out, it still does look like a huge fireball behind the car when taken from certain camera angles.

hmm, I see, and then the sparks get a glowing effect in the rain, making it look like a fireball.

Myth busted?

YES!!!! I was watching a b-spec Le Mans 24 hour endurance race and saw the same thing behind my Toyota GT-ONE in the rain at night, it would be most apparent before the chicanes when he would hit his brakes, huge fireball looking effect with the brake lights and the water plume behind the car. I even emailed my friends about it. Good times! Cheers.

My guess is the rain light illuminated the water plume.

This. It does look cool.

On a related note; that's one thing my Bob can do better than me - drive in the rain without the car sliding around like Bambi on ice.

It's just the brake lights illuminating the water plume... It's more noticable in lower light conditions (obviously). Here's a couple of pics I took a little while ago.
It's not limited to the X1.

That happened to me while racing at night on the, with formula gt (it was an experiment ) if the car generated any kind of smoke the smoke would turn red because of the tail light. :dopey:

That effect looks awesome, looks like the X2010 has jet boosters, lol

You are not that far from the truth. There is actually a fan at the back of the car that shoots out air. If you read the description of the X2010, it states that the car is a 'fan car', which utilises a fan to extract the air from under the car. This gives the car its tremendous turning ability. 👍
