X2011 Vibration

On first obtaining the RB X2011 I found it undrivable because of excessive vibration through Logitech wheel. Subsequently improved the situation by reducing downforce, etc. Obviously there is no suspension other than tyre flexing.

Have since completed LeMan24 without major issues but I am struggling with the Nurburgring24. First 16 hours (in rain) were ok on full wets but dry tyres are threatening to burn out my wheel force-feed motors because the vibration is so severe!!

I do not know of a way to return to garage whilst in race suspension so I will probably need to complete the last few hours on full wets just to get to the end.

Has anyone else suffered similar problems with the X2011?

Yeah it's pretty unbearable to drive that car. Best best is to just turn FFB all the way down.

Thanks. Sorry to sound a 'numpty' - but is there any way to do that whilst within a race or whilst in suspend?

Do you mean the 'steering sensitivity' setting under driver options?

I had already turned it down to 1 (I think) before the race.

If you're talking about the inherent steering wheel bounce of these cars, even while running on smooth surface straights, I found being deathly still on the wheel smooths that right out.

Currently running sarthe 24, 12 hours in, with the 2010 paintable version. FFB at 4 at the moment and sensitivity at 7.

Yeah, that should do the trick. Feedback a bit lower than normal in the 4-6 range and you have to hold the wheel fairly strongly or the front end wants to jump around. I don't even think about it anymore. I think it helps if you are fit - strong hands, arms, fast reflexes and with some good endurance. Otherwise the car will pound you into submission.

When I first drove one of these I found the tighter I gripped the wheel the worse the bounce got. I also noticed the bounce disappeared entirely when actually turning or when applying slight pressure one way or the other. I drive from my couch with a DFGT on a stand and I find after a few stints I get tired so on the straights I rest my elbows on my legs to help keep my hands still.

Might be the difference in wheels, DFGT vs G27. The only time my wheel shakes is if I reduce my grip to grab a drink, change settings or something like that. I don't let it happen very often as I like to have strong feedback settings, even for these cars.

I have already put in around 50 hours driving the X2011 (including the LM24-hour, so I don't think it's a case of steering grip, et al.

What I was remarking on was the distinct shift in driveability that I am currently facing on the N'ring24-hour on switching from wet tyres to dry slicks.

I have not encountered this before - hence my query.

But thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I will just need to finish the race with full wets on the front as I only have 5 hours left to do. I will then need to investigate further on one of the practise tracks.

Are you saying the car handles differently on dry slicks this time vs previous times using dry slicks?

That is probably the case. I would like to try the g27 but the cost is prohibitive.

Oshawa-Joe, yes, precisely that!

However, I have been getting an intermittent <!> warning on the dash so maybe it is a rigidity problem, no way of telling. Either way I guess I will just need to finish off the race and look into why this problem has developed.

Interesting that it is so exaggerated between wet and dry front tyres though!

Strange indeed. Please post if you find out what it is. What wheel are you using?

Logitech driving force.

I will certainly post up my conclusions - assuming I get to the bottom of it!!

Oshawa-Joe,

Turned out to be down to Active Steering being selected (doh!!). So driver error!!

Checked it out with a few laps of the N'Ring having ensured all aids were off - but had to drop the steering sensitivity down to -2 whereas I had previously been fine at 1. So not sure what else I may have changed along the way

Will stick to more 'normal' cars in future although the X2011 is quite exhilarating - speed wise.

I tried active steering once with the x1 and recall it did shake insanely, very similar to doing rally races.
