To quote an article from THG:

Another issue is that some of the rumored features specific to the different consoles will make direct ports of titles increasingly difficult, if not impossible. For example, Microsoft has announced that all games developed for the Xbox 360 must not only be Internet enabled, but also share the console's interface structure. Certainly this is intended to ease the creation of titles on their platform for developers, but it means taking that game over to the PS3, for example, becomes a chore.

Picture me surprised...

NVidia has been making better products than ATI ever since they've both been in the business.

Say what? Come on now, both companies have had ups and downs, for example the 9700 and 9800 series pretty much spanked nvidia, then nvidia came back with the Uber 6800s.

Those xbox 2 specs are bloody beefy. It's a MONSTER. 3 X 3.2 ghz...I mean that's ridiculous. I also hope that sony don't do a repeat of the "emotion engine"...what a joke that was!

I also love the "sony are such great quality" people...

"I bought a Sony cd player 4 years ago and it still works"

Big bloody deal, I have a crap matsui stereo in our shed, got that over 10 years ago and it still works. Still crap though. Sony in general are quite good though, my trinitron TV is damn loverly. I won't even mention the argument of bringing in Microsofts operating systems, as if it REALLY effects the console! ARF! My ps2 has crashed just as often as my Xbox, so that kinda throws that out of the window, infact my most reliable system is probably my dreamcast, and that runs on some cut down version of windows.

So what are you saying? I'm confused. Nearly as I can tell, you're arguing against yourself.

I was saying that system specs alone won't determine the better or more popular console. The current gen Xbox spanks the PS2 in terms of capability, and in general I think of it as a better console. It may be big, but it's got loads more power plus the key hard drive. However, despite dominating the PS2 in terms of graphical power, the PS2 has a far greater market share, mainly due to its early release and its DVD capabilities (DVD players were expensive in Japan at release, but when the PS2 came out it was one of the cheaper ones so people bought it to play DVDs, then their kids ended up buying games for their DVD player lol)

The Xbox 360 is very powerful, but the Cell may be the winner in terms of power. But if the Xbox 360 comes out 1 or maybe even 2 years before the Cell-powered PS3, it can dominate market share easily.

I was just replying to his post about Sony´s discman being crap. And I don´t know about Europe, but I haven´t seen any other discmans here better than Sony´s so far. As soon as I find one I´ll probably buy it.

I didn´t like the controllers so much, they still seem too big (at least for my tiny hands), and the colorful buttons don´t match with the controllers and console.

Edit: Ghost Recon 3 (Xbox360)

in regards to the processor. i noticed alot of ppl saying 3x3.2. Its not 3 CPUs! its One Single CPU with 3 cores on it running at 3.2GHz each. And No that doesnt mean it runs at 9.6GHz cause computers dont work that way. It splits the workload between the 3 cores then spits them out.

I found this, anyone else think its funny?

With the Xbox we had a merchant semi-conductor relationship. With Xbox 360 we have designed and own the chipset, so we can go to whomever we want with it. We're not paying Intel and Nvidia this time," he explained, referring to the exorbitant price paid out each time an Xbox was manufactured.

Later In the Article
IGN
IBM PowerPC based CPU with 3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz
Custom ATI Graphics processor and more than 512 MB of memory

Irony.... They arent using Intel and nVidia this time, they are using IBM and ATI

Is that all you have to say? NVidia has been making better products than ATI ever since they've both been in the business.
Oh hell no... you must've forgotten last year and the year before when the 9700 hit the market. Especially when DX9.0 was introduced. Get your **** straight.

Yeah but nvidia has got the 6800.....now with SLi dual GPU technology......surely thats gotta be the business.......(p.s. this is comming from someone who has limited knowledge of the technical aspect of GPU's!)

Me & my mate were talking about the differences in the Nvidis & ATI cards a few weeks back. The Nvidia carsd usually have the higher performance but the ATI cards usually run at a similar performance but the games look better as the ATI cards can run at higher Anti-Alising setting Etc...

My mate has both a Radeon 9800 Pro & A Geforce 5900 Ultra. Both give him virtually identical performance but he finds he can set the AA/AF settings higher on the ATI card as when he goes to the higher settings on the Geforce 5900 he suffers appauling frame rate drops.

Take Doom 3 as the example, on both cards he runs the game in 1024x768 with detail maxed out, on the Geforce 5900 he can only run AA/AF at 2x before he suffers a terrible drop in frame rate. On the Radeon 9800 Pro however he can get the AA/AF up to 8x & 6x & can pretty much max out all the other settings he can tweak in his graphics options. Both computers are identical other than the graphics cards so its not down to CPU speed or RAM its down purely to the graphics cards.

Nice but that has no relation to the next gen consoles. Doom 3 wasnt made to run on a sngle set up so you get varied performance. A 5900 VS a 9800 for doom 3? Thats 2 generations behind where they are now. And the CPU's will have a big part in graphics since they are multi core chip sets.

by the way J allard basically admitted he knows the PS3 is far more advance. Adam Sesslar asked him what he thohgt about the PS3's specs and of course he said it didnt matter. but those are the tough questions. He also seemed like he want to shove his foot up adams a$$ for asking him why the games shown didnt look like next gen games. He said its the developers falut the games have bad frame rate(he's right). al so he would not comment on why Perfect Dark was mia, he avoided the question but that games running at about 20 odd fps.

I've got more info on the Graphics Processor if it hasn't already been mentioned:

Polygon Performance: 500 million triangles per second. (I think the PS2 is 75 million. What a leap :) )
Pixel Fill Rate: 16 gigasamples per second fillrate using 4X MSAA.
Shader Performance: 48 billion shader operations per second.

LOL!

I have to see that episode, man.

So anyways guys-
What's the verdict, here? i'm  confused. I am REALLY stoked by the 360 because it retains the same controller style with... TRIGGERz!

However, it seemed that just as soon as PS3 unveiled itself to the world, why Microsoft rushed a whole damned bunch of techtalk out to the press (see IGN) to try and dissuade XDuke Homies from being afraid that the PS3 could out-perform it.

many o' yutes know a gigaflipflop more than I, so... *Is* there any consensus on here?

That M$ article that IGN publiced comparing the X360 and PS3 was a bunch of crap according to the folks at Beyond3D´s forums. They say there´s some good info there, but the specs they try to compare are all twisted and wrong.

The major opinion is that both consoles are very good, each having it´s good and bad points. But I don´t know nothing about hardware, so I´ll just wait for the consoles to be released and see for myself which to get first.

Right. Well see, I figured that. I'll check Beyond3D out.

Thanks Fa- ..uhh. Thanks, dude.

Crikey! Blimey! Good grief. :indiff: Fuh cryin' out and for heaven's sakes.

:lol::lol::lol:

These guys speak several levels above my understanding.

A pox on you AssBR for putting me through that. Hehe. One thing I agree about, which seems to be the sentiment of 'Netizens across the board: It was exceedingly stupid of Microsoft to send out its PR guys and start circulating around utter rubbish.

Designed to obfuscate and confuse, it only weakens their credibility in my mind. 👎 ... Stupid. They'd have spoken MUCH more loudly and efficaciously by simply letting the Xbox 360 speak for itself.

This is my favorite part about the new Xbox 360.

Give an offending player a thumbs-down, and that will hurt his or her reputation score, making it less likely others will play with him or her. But more importantly, the system knows which players you have given poor feedback on. So if you give someone a thumbs-down, you’re less likely to be matched up with him or her again. If you give another player a thumbs-up, the system will be more likely to match you up again.

See you later. :)

i will make this simple since your not a tech head

ps3: power of two 6800ultras, or close to 6800ultra sli

360: more power than a r520, r520 being the next ATI card

ATI has come out with Rapid Fire tech, that is slightly better than sli, or at least way more efficient...

performance benchmarking:

3dmark05

6800ultra sli got around 6k

one r520 got 10k+

higher is better in 3dmark05, add to this the card in the 360 gets 4xAA for Free at any resolution setting! not so with the ps3 (bandwith issues)
