The con...If I'm going to spending 400-600 dollars on a console I want the BEST I can get...Not "settle" I don't knwo about you but 600 dollars isn't an amount I ENJOY spending let alone on OnE thing......
600 dollars would get me a XFX 7800 GT........Which would run the unreal 3 engine....which is what unreal 2007 uses..which has met every gfx quota i've set for myself..
CAll my a graphix whore all you want, but when I spend money I want to get the best bang for my buck...not something that is "acceptable"
And your deffinitions there have got to be the most biased thing i've ever heard in my life if not one of the nerdiest things i've read on this forum.
So Doom 3 is a crappy game that "hardcore gamers" don't like?
Same for Half Life 2?
So "Counterstrike" and "World of Warcraft" is where it's at is where it's at for Hardcore gamers? i'm sorry...count me out of nerdfest 05..
Even the games you include in your examples defeat your point.
HL2 is not visually stunning by any means, but the physics are so amazing you soon forget about that, but as far as visuals, it's behind the current generation of FPS.
And your examples of Counterstrike and WoW are pretty inappropriate, since they are "dated" so to speak. But for their time, they were outstanding games, not because of visuals, but because of gameplay.
And your desire to spend money on whatever you please is yours, but to me, that $400 dollars that the PS3 will run me is fairly cheap given the technology that will be sold to me.
You figure, with the GPU alone, to get one similar on PC will run you $600.
Now let's add the Processor, what, 3.2Ghz? We'll just shoot low and say $200.
Now let's add extra USB ports, say 4? Maybe $50.
Let's add a BD-ROM, capable of playing all disc mediums (with the exception of HD-DVD). Low estimate again: $200
Let's toss in 256MB of system memory: Possibly $50
Can't forget that your PC needs an HDD, we'll shoot low, say, 80GB: $70
We all know that you need a soundcard, since you seem to think it's so important, lol, so we'll shoot for another low cost: $70
So, just with that, assuming you have case/MB/keybord+mouse/monitor...you're looking at
$1240.00. Even then, you will more than likely have to upgrade within the next year to stay current with the "next generation" of PC visuals.
Now I will begin to debunk your problem with textures etc. Why should game developers focus on the texture of the ship, when it will only be seen partially, and is not the focus of the gameplay? Why should the focus on something htat moves so quickly, that it doesn't matter if it appears slightly in front of the weapon, when it's moving so fast you won't notice unless it's in slowmo?
As for the lips and the sound, you obviously don't understand that with greater detail in triangles and textures/shaders, it is quite difficult to get away with lip synching on next generation hardware because it looks much more realistic, so you cannot get away with simple mouth motions, yet developers have not yet caught on, and it will take time to practice, yet for you, this is unacceptable.
Don't blame the hardware genius, blame the developer, unless you are a
