Kinda surprised there isn't a thread on this already.

Unfourtanately, it's been delayed, with more details 'later today'. You can get Engadgets review here.
 
Seen as how its 2pm Pacific Time now, I'm surprised it hasn't been released by now. But I don't care that much since I don't own a Kinect, maybe I'll wait for the Kinect 2.

I don't own kinect either, but this'll be a welcome update. Hope the FM4 theme works with it though.

I kind of like the current dashboard. I'm still interested to see what the next one will be like though.
 
Pretty sleek this dashboard is. I won't miss the NXE at all. 👍
 
Had it for a few weeks now as part of the beta testing - its much better.

The reason there has been no thread is because you arent allowed to disclose any info on it or pictures.
 
I haven't seen any pics of it yet. I didn't even know about the update until a today. I hope it's better than the current dashboard. I'll be downloading it when I get home from work this morning.
 
Its definately better - its kinda layed out like the XMB on the PS3 where you have headings and you scroll accross but thats the only similarity - everything under the headings is in graphical form not a menu and its all in blocks. The guide menu (when you press the big X on the controller) remains unchanged (minus a few new features menus)

Everything is voice controlled with Kinect now - not just the kinect panel.

My favourite new stuff is little things like the pop up for achievement unlocked or when a friend comes online has more status updates, it tells you when and which friend started playing the same game as you and it also tells you how many of your friends play particular games. Along with this is the 'beacons' its an alert for your friends to see which games you would like to play and you can put a message on it so they can see for example if you want to tell them you wanna play spec ops on COD or Ultimate team on Fifa etc...

The other thing I like is being able to sign into any console - pretty much works like Windows live messenger and along with this you have the cloud storage so you can keep saves on it and use them on other consoles.
 
The game saves on the cloud is pretty awesome. Not that I'd ever really use it, but very cool feature nonetheless. One feature I wish they would implement (but I know they never will) is to reorganize the stuff in each section. Like say for instance if I go to the "videos" heading, I would like to place Netflix first in line there since that's the only feature I use in that area. I have no interest in watching IGN Strategize or any of the other content that is shown. Oh well.
 
I didnt check the dasboard out yet but I heard that you can no longer have Netflix parties. Please tell me that is not correct. Can anyone confirm this?

There are going to be a lot of furious people if this is true. Including myself. Why in the heck would they even consider removing one of the best parts of Netflix / xboxlive???!! I sure hope this is not true. :banghead:🤬👎:irked:
 
So Does FM4 save to the cloud?
DO you have to move your game save to the cloud?
Does it backup to the cloud, so you have the local copy in case of Network Issues?

Anyone Know?

Forza 4 will save to the cloud.

I imagine you will have to 'move' the save as in the past ive read horror stories about copying FM saves.

Local copy doesnt back up to the cloud which is extremely disappointing - this is what I imagined it was for but as we know some games you cant 'copy' saves and in forza's case copying can be disasterous. When you have a save game in the cloud and you switch to a different console and use the cloud as storage device the cloud save syncs.

And as you also mentioned this leaves you absolutely well and truly stuck if for some reason you arent able to connect to xbox live or if live is down - maybe you wont be able to get your cloud save - as this hasnt happened to me yet I cant really comment but I do see it as a vulnerability.
 
I can think of a whole bunch of expletives when talking about "the cloud". And I'm not just talking about XBLive.. Any way, I sure hope it's not true that you can't access your save game when the server is down, because from what I've experienced so far, the FM4 server is down *a lot*. I know the cloud is not on the FM4 server, but reading from it will probably rely on it any ways.
 
What I expect to have happen is I will save a copy of my FM4 gamesave to the cloud (as a a backup) and then save the game again to my local hard drive. Then every couple weeks or so, save it to the cloud again as a backup and continue to use my local drive as the primary save source.

That way I'm covered if the cloud is offline, or something happens to my xbox..I'm only a week or two behind. Heck, if the process is as fast as I'm hoping, maybe I'll back it up after each session of FM4 :)

Im currently transferring my forza save to the cloud! 50mb save and its taking ages!

Better not have any malfunctions with my £200+million garage and my affinity 48 on honda at stake here!

Finally got to update the dash on my second console where my rig is so i will be testing my forza save on two xbox systems and i will give you guys some feedback as to how well its working!

You see thats what I originally planned but after the things i heard about copying forza saves i would definately be careful with that method!

Can anybody confirm the problems with a forza copy save?

Ah 🤬 man, what kind of problems? This is the first I've heard of it. My internet connection is 25MB down and 15MB up on a gigiabit network at home, so if it's a speed thing, I'll be fine.

^I think you mean 25mb down and 15mb up. Even still 15 megs up seems a bit much. Are you sure its not 5mb up? I have 25 mb down and 3 mb up with Comcast.

And yes I would be very nervous copying a Forza save to anything. When my first 360 died I lost everything from Forza 2. I even put the save onto other devices like a memory card and transfer kit with no luck. Lost everything.
 
lol, whoops! That's what I meant. Yea FIOS here is only $5 more a month and I actually get 7x the throughput down and 10x the speed up over Comcast cable (former Comcast customer :)) Comcast throttles the 🤬 out of you in the PDX area even though they deny it. The best part is my work pays for it because of the off-hours IT work I have to do, woot!

Nice. Yes I hate Comcast but its the ONLY internet option we have in my area. FIOS sure would be nice.

EDIT: Since they removed the party from Netflix,

I guess now if you want to watch a movie together then everyone in the party can pick the same movie, then count down 3.2.1 and hit start. But if you decide to pause you will all have to do it at the same time. Its a pain without the netflix party feature. But at least we can still watch movies together, hopefully.
