Red Alert!!

Xbox has an alert out at it's website. all units made before october 23rd 03, or 14 January 04 in Europe have a recall on their power cords. Apparently, anything can cause the cord to fry, including "brownouts", power surges, and putting the plug in wrong. get to the website with your serial number to get a relacement.

that's ooold, they sent every registered X box live customer a letter saying they'll give you a free power cord if you want one if yours was made durring the time frame or not.

p.s.
Notice how Microsoft pretty much says
"Hey we f'ed up our bad here's the fix for it" instead of
Sony's
"we made a shotty console for 3 generations before we got it (for what we think) right) if you want one that doesn't break, buy a new one from us"

I'm still waiting for ...

Microsoft, "We f'd up Windows, here's your free fixed copy", but we haven't gotten that yet. I think your argument is flawed.

Ahahaha Yes I applause your argument. You have made my day with.

That's why you get a windows update every (what seems like) 30 seconds. A computers a little different from a console.
There's an infinite # of things a person could do to a computer or put on a computer that could/will conflict with the OS.....Can't really do that with a console can ya?

Live! ... ?

No what you're talking about is hardware. And you are correct that Microsoft has replaced a $0.50 power cord on a rather small number of consoles. What you're asking Sony to do is replace a $25 optical drive on hundreds of thousands of consoles. Even if they are at fault there's no sensible company that would do that. That's litterally millions of dollars.

Power cords ... hell, I've got a box full of them at my office. How many do you want? 50? 100? 300?

But the point is Microsoft still took the initiative and did something about it, they didn't leave their customers in the dark about the problems until it was too late. I never got a warning for my PS2 saying "hey your optical drive might go out if it hasn't already, so trade it in wherever you bought it for a new one"

No they left it comnpletely up to the consumer, and not just myself but quite a few people I know were completely screwed out of 1 if not 2 or 3 ps2's just because Sony didn't take ANY responsibility for it.

Sony fixes the ps2 optical lenses for free. All you have to do is pay for shipping. And they are not really faulty just bad quality as they wear out like any other mechanical part.

Oh, so they just gave you shotty parts. Well that justifies everything. I mean you paying 200+ dollars for a console from a multi-billion dollar corp. Then having a crappy part break in a month and then having YOU pay for them to fix it. And it's only got a what moth repair period?

So you buy a faulty machine, pay for it to be shipped, in some cases pay for it to be repaired, and have to wait till it's returned
VS.
Buy a faulty machine, get something aknowledging it's faulty, trading it for a new one

Speaking of shotty parts and companies not aknowledging it can any one say Xbox controller??????!!!!!!!!

And PS2's break after about 1 and a halfs years to 2 years.

No....Ps2's do not break in 1 or 2 years. Try 4 months for my first and 7 months for my second. I treated both with care like you wouldn't believe.

What's wrong with X box controllers? i've heard nothing outside of the games being the problems not the hardware.

When did the PS2 come out? '98? and it's now '05 so I've had my original controller for 7 years now, my PS2 is still original too.

That doesn't mean anything tbh, some people never have a problem, some do. Same with every machine ever.

TBH? :dopey: I believe it does mean something, that I will never get an xBox

I mean... No Way in HELL I've EVER get one.

I got my replacement cable a month ago or so now. Glad my house didn't burn down or the insides of my modded xbox :)

*grins* good to know that the alert came out early...I just had l;earned about it today.

BTW...PS2 isn't the ONLY ones with crapola lasers..I need a replacement for an Old PSX...

and, btw...I have original Dualshock Analog...needed to fix the L2...wore my original Barracuda out first on GT2. my d pads are smoothe, the text is worn off in spots, and there's a shiny glaze on my controllers...did that with an old NES and SuperNES, too. I know what you guys mean.

Wow sony loves you long time, 10 dorrah.

My PS2 is also old, works fine. Engage the brain and realise that some people will never have probs, some people will. It's typical.

And some people have to learn how to find the off button and stop using the hardware as punching bags just because they can't get what they want RIGHT THIS SECOND. 💡

Some people should who are gonna complain should be mechanically inclined and just clean the damn lasers themselves and shut the hell up. Yes the laser sucks...get the hell over it. The damn console is one year younger then GOD.

right. you think these guys know even basic maintenence? no. specially when baby brothers, other sibs, and parents in cleanie mode put fingerprints all over the disk surfaces picking em up:P every time I get a game from EB, I have to clean the disks off, cause even the sales peeps, who store the disks in poly bags, put their big ol thumbprints all over em. I had one so filthy, that, when I cleaned it, i found out the disk was cracked in half and the rep didn't even notice!

Exactly whats worse. You not being able to play your favourite ps2 game, or you not being able to get out of your house alive due to thick smoke caused by faulty xbox wiring. I mean making a mistake in cabling is elemantery stuff. It shouldnt have gone wrong in the first place.

Well for one, my PS2 never saw ANY other game other than GT3 A-spec. The only reason I purchased my first one, and to continue playing was the only reason I purchhased a second, My first was a part time DVD player, which I'm assuming lead to it's demise, the 2nd NEVER saw any disc other than GT3, and trust me my A-spec disc was/still is flawless.
My X box has yet to have any problems reading disks unless it was just a crap disk, no problems with CD's be they legit or burned. No probs with the chord, and as for houses burning down from the power chord? Seriously, who has their x box sitting on Shag carpet, because if they do they deserve their house to burn down, because I don't see how ANY other kind of carpet would ignite. Singe maybe, but ignite? Hardly.

Christmas 2000 for the PS2, you've had your controller for ~4.5 years if you got it around the time of the NA launch.
