Xbox360 Crashes

Nope, ain't seen that before.

I'd recommend the usual batch of unplugging all the cables and reseating them, making sure there's no disc in the system (because it's freezing at precisely the point where it starts trying to read whatever disc is loaded), maybe try laying it down.

If none of that works, I'd get on the horn to Microsoft. It may be toast, despite the absence of the Red Death.

...I have neither heard of it, nor experienced it, so I'm not certain what the deal is. I like Jedi's idea of laying it flat. After my experiences of using the PS2 standing up, I will never do that with a console again... It is just too risky.

I've had that, with two consoles. They were both replaced.

You can read about them here and here.

Do you think these problems are a regular occurence (accross the whole of the 360 market) and do you think I shouldn't buy one due to it?

I have never had a problem with my 360. Don't let sparse problems scare you away from a great console. Even if something does go wrong with it, Microsoft will fix it.

Aye, my PS2 is sounding like an arthritic centre, I promised I'd start to learn to drive before getting one, but I will now.

Really this is only an issue with consoles that have a disc tray instead of a slot loader. The Wii and PS3 are better equipped to deal with a verticle posture.

As for the crash...I haven't seen anything like that before, but why are you even POSTING in this forum if you haven't had the problem and you're only waiting for a PS3? Trolling really isn't popular here, so I'd suggest an early retirement from these sort of posting habits.

Read Integra's post.

If you think about it, if it was a continuous problem and nothing more than a few consoles going here and there (after all nothing will be 100% reliable) then the 360s wouldn't be selling like they would be, plus you'd probably have a product recall by Microsoft. I'll be ordering my 360 at somepoint this afternoon.

Um...I don't want to add fuel to this already ridiculous topic, but MS basically did offer a product recall...but it was voluntary. Basically they fessed up in Feb of last year, and said any consoles built before Jan 2006 would be given a free replacement by Microsoft.

And it was a tad more than "a few here and there". They did have a problem. Currently, yes, it is a few here and there, but in the first 4 months, it was a big issue with the 360. Most of those problems have been solved, but it's due more to product design (the case of the system) than it is to anything else. It's simply a terrible system design that makes it overheat, not the hardware itself.

But I'd be unlucky to buy a console online and that be one that's one of the pre-fix models wouldn't I?

I will reword it (I've just brought a 360 btw, see the Pimp my 360 thread).

If I were to buy a console online, I'd be unlucky if that was a model that was before Microsoft addressed the issue.
