Xenon lights allowed in europe??

Afternoon everybody,

i got a question regarding HID High-Low beam and Fog lamps.
I live in dubai and here there are not really any specs regarding headlights.
On my moms :indiff: range rover we took out the original xenons and upgraded it with Low beam 30.000k and highbeam 20.000k.
Foglights are going to be upgraded soon.

My parents have a house in germany/munich and in austria and we have a Merc. E320 cdi. I'm going to austria soon and i was thinking to take 2 HID kits with me and install them in the benz.
The car is registered to our house in germany but in germany in know that there are very strict regulations about cars. (TUV)

I want to upgrade the car for high beam and fogs. I'm written here to know if its allowed to have addional xenons on the car.

People often install HID kits here,and i think it's legal in most of coutnries like german for instance,the product is legal when you have TUV certificate.

I believe in Germany the parts you fit to the car would have to be TUV approved for fitment to that particular car, if not they may well be illegal.

The exact situation may vary from country to country within Europe, here in the UK HID's are legal as aftermarket fitment if fitting them would not cause the car to fail its MOT test (annual safety and condition check for cars 3+ years old). In the UK its principally an issue of the actual angle and spread of the beam, as much as the brightness and Germany may well be the same.

Keep in mind that its also not permitted to run with fog-lamps illuminated, unless its actually foggy, in many countries. This does again include the UK, but to drive around you would never guess it, boy racers running with every light blazing no matter what the weather (or at times the time of day).

thanks yea, thats why i'm asking if xenons like those are legal.
I actually dont think that TUV will certify those HID's, because they are very intense blue:scared: (30000k)

Here in Germany you have to have a headlight cleaning system for Xenonheadlights. So no TUEV for that upgrade.

Only complete sets are allowed.

also BE CAREFUL. The upgrade from Halogen to Xenon just by changing the lamps multiplies the risk of a CAR FIRE. So I wouldn't really recommend it.

hey,the E320 CDI comes already with factory xenons and headlamp washers, so i dont need to upgrade them.
So then actually there wouldnt be any problem with the xenons-would there?

Ah ok I see. Well, no idea tbh. Maybe yes, maybe no. If those lamps are too bright/intense, then a police car might stop you and you'd have to pay.
If I were you I'd ask the Tuev the next time you are in Munich...

^^ (very off-topic) Small world, me too ! I live in Olching, north-west (near Dachau or Fürstenfeldbruck) Maybe we could meet sometime ;)

Back on-topic, even if the 320 had xenon before, the xenon lamps have to have a ( E Prüfzeichen) I think, some kind of homologation number for that certain car .

But at 30.000k, I doubt it, it depends of what kind of lamps these are (manufacturer?).
