Elton John has one........ Nuff Said.

There's also a bit of a story / legend, that he bought one and his driver crashed it on the way home with it. So the big ol' queen ordered another one!

"The Jaguar XJ220 - So good, the queen bought two of them*"
*Does not refer to Queen Elizabeth, but she's close enough.

(This --^ was the other famous one, owned by the Sultan of Brunei and restyled by Pininfarina. More information here)

The Jaguar XJ220. The first supercar in the world to break the top speed record of 220mph and dominated that for a few years until the McLaren F1 in 1994.

Only reached 217, though the goal was in the name.

Xtreme Jaguar 220 mph "XJ220 to fast for it time"

Only reached 217, though the goal was in the name.

It actually 212.3 in standard trim, and on a straight, level length of track it probably would've hit it's target.

How about "The Jaguar XJ-not-quite-220"?

How about " the jaguar that wasn't expected and didn't live up to expectations."

*does best christopher walkens impression* needs more cylinders. I'm just not hearing enough cylinders

The XJ220 is brilliant. It's reputation was ruined by speculators who wanted a V12 without giving the V6 (based on the Cosworth DFV V8) a chance. It's acceleration and top speed are still extremely good even by todays standards.

The V6 had more power, less weight, lower weight and lots more torque. The only thing it didn't have that the V12 had was the soundtrack. The V6 was even used in Le Mans cars, so also had the racing pedigree.

Admittedly selling a car as an AWD V12 and delivering a car as a RWD V6 doesn't sound as good, but in my opinion it was better for it.

Oh and in that picture sequence you missed out the Jaguar XJR-10/11
