XM vs. Sirius

Which Satellite Radio service would you use?

I wasn't sure where exactly to put this, so I tossed it in the Rumble Strip. Hope nobody minds.

After playing with my parents' satellite radio yesterday, I have come to the descision that I would like one for myself. However, I have a dilemma. I have heard that both XM and Sirius services are great, but that XM has more channels to choose from.

Since I am posting, I will also ask if the unit is completely portable between vehicles? I work doing parts delivery, and would like to know if I can change it between my car and the company car, and if it can be done quickly.


So, I pose the question - XM or Sirius? Why?



(I find it slightly ironic that, while I am unwilling to dole out money for a cell phone, I am more than willing to subscribe to satellite radio).
 
My Dad's Trailblazer has XM, and I love listening to Quoi de neuf when Dad's not around. :dopey: -They once said <<j'espère que le prochaîne president de Les Etats-unis va être Scooby-doo.>> :lol:

Mom has Sirius in her car. No Quoi de neuf, but Classic Vinyl plays more Cream than Top Tracks on XM.

XM. Parce que j'aime le channel deux-cent quarante-cinq. :dopey:
 
Sirius has Howard Stern. XM is the winner.
 
They both have only 3 Christian stations out of 100 plus...my vote shall be other (MP3 CD for the win)
 
I never tried XM, but we have Sirius at work. No, Siriusly. I think it's cool, though personally, I wouldn't pay $13 a month for radio. My favorite station is "Coffee House".
 
I've been browsing both sites, and I think I like Sirius's lineup a bit better. It would help if XM would actually put a few musicians they play on each description, rather than just what they say they play.
I'm leaning towards Sirius so far... I think Sirius actually has more channels than XM, or a damn close amount.

(And two channels of Howard Stern, whoever that is... Anyone care to tell me?)

Thanks for creating this thread as I was going to in the next few months when looking for a new car with these options.

I like Sirius a little more, but which has more Classic/Old Hard Rock N' Roll? And are there any car-related stations? I only get 1 here in Texas. :(
 
All I know is Howard Stern's not getting my moneys.
 
I think I'm going to get Sirius. I saw an ad for a local store and the Sirius reciever was on sale. The reciever I want is $100, vs. lots more for the XM one.
 
My vote goes to XM. Lots more channels with a wider selection of music to listen too. Plus, Howard Stern won't be getting rich off your money by letting you listen to dirty lesbian midgets playing "hide the quarter" while sitting on a donkey. :lol:

How is he so popular? Listening to him is like playing Rain man and a crappy porn at the same time in one room and listening to it from another.
 
If you want the absolute best signal coverage everywhere, get XM. If you want the absolute best content with coverage thats just about as good as XM, get Sirius.

I wouldn't either, but if you like listening to radio and have $$$, it's the way to go. So much new music you'll hear, and of course they provide the names of the artist and the song. There are stations to meet just about every taste. Many of the stations are commercials and DJ free.

Again, I wouldn't buy it, but it's definitely worth the money if you can afford it.
 
I love Sirius, I got it in my Sentra...Howard Stern is gross but entertaining as hell. I love the comedy Channels, Sports channels, FACTION music channel is awesome, always have guys like Tony Hawk and Dave Mirra in guest spots. Raw Dawg Comedy and the blue collar comedy stations are killer funny!
 
Satelite radio is the bomb! i have found so many new artists that they never play on FM Radio.. i LOVE XM for channel 48, squizz.. and their comedy channels are DA BOMB.
 
Artie Lang is a bomb, not the bomb. Like, the flopping kind of bomb.

Anyway, Squizz is funny sometimes. XM plays a lot of big band jazz, though, which is cool.
 
XM! The first one.. My cousins have Siruous and they didn't have my channels..
XM has a bit more..
We have XM in all 3 of are cars, in all 5 of are computers.. So yeah we like XM :)
 
Why am I getting satellite radio?
Well, I drive a delivery car for an auto parts company for a living. The radio reception I get varies between cars, and often fades out in a few spots on a regular day. Some of the cars don't have CD players, so the next obvious choice is Satellite radio. For two hours pay per month, I can get crystal clear reception, with the music I want, and with no advertisments. I don't have a cellular phone, so I have decided to spend some money on this instead. I can then take the reciever and antenna, and transfer it between cars (be it company, or personal) in just a couple minutes.
Now, I have decided to get Sirius radio. Why?
Better selection of what I want - More classic rock, blues/jazz, and a few comedy/talk stations I might be interested in (Howard Stern sounds... interesting... to say the least. Like an oppinionated, redneck jackass, from what I've heard). My dad recently paid $300 for the reciever, a car kit and a home kit, and a years' subscription, so it really isn't all that expensive when you consider that an equivelant XM reciever and subscription costs upwards of $400. Finally, where I am, in Canada, Sirius has better reception, as their satellites orbit further north than those of XM. I've heard of times when XM loses signal in the mountains, and this is much less likely then Sirius.
 
I wouldn't corner howard stern as a redneck, not in the least. He is however the pioneer of " Shock Jocks" that started a new trend in radio. He was the first to have that style of show, and has been doing it for over 20 years now. Hi style is very crude, he touches on topics no one dares go near, its like toilet humour with strippers tossed in for good luck. The cool thing about the show is that all the people on it are honest with the audience, and you really get to know who you're listening to.
