So how many of you yawned when you read the title, or have started to yawn now?

I just think this pretty much involuntary movement is very interesting since simply reading about it can invoke its happening.

umm, discuss.

Yeah, I did. I'm aware of the brain yawning when you think of it. This lead to me yawning in class when I would get the attention of a girl I knew, which would always cause her to yawn immediately. It was quite comical because she couldn't avoid yawning it seemed.

I yawned right after submitting the "No, I did not yawn."

I yawn, therefore I am.

Well, I didn't yawn when I read this thread, so I voted no..... :p However, if I felt sleepy or read this at night, there might be a bigger percentage that I would yawn...... *yawn*

I also remembered watching Mad Labs before on yawning. They did say yawning was contagious..... :scared: Try wathing this video and see if you yawn when watching this.... ( I can' believe I yawned when I watched this..... :banghead:)

I also remembered watching Mad Labs before on yawning.

Thats called Mythbusters here in the US, ie, one of the best shows on TV.

I yawned. I've yawned three times while typing this. Couldn't be the fact that its 3:15 AM?

A few things about yawning from Wikipedia...
A yawn (synonyms chasma, pandiculation, oscitation from the Latin verb oscitare, to open the mouth and have bad smells come out is a reflex of deep inhalation and exhalation associated with tiredness, stress, overwork, lack of stimulation, or boredom. Pandiculation is the term for the act of stretching and yawning. Yawning is a powerful non-verbal message with several possible meanings, depending on the circumstances. The claim that yawning is caused by lack of oxygen has not been substantiated scientifically. However, the exact causes of yawning are still undetermined. The word "yawn" has evolved from the Middle English word yanen, an alteration of yonen or yenen, which in turn comes from the Old English geonian.
Hypothesized causes of yawning

1. A means of cooling the brain.[5]
2. An action used as an unconscious communication of psychological decompression after a state of high alert.
3. An excess of carbon dioxide and lack of oxygen in the blood. [1]
4. A way of displaying (or indicative of) apathy.
5. Tiredness.
6. A means of equalizing inner ear pressure, which can be triggered by another's yawning.

I yawned, then laughed.

No I didn't yawn

Nope, no yawn. And I'm about to go to bed...

I think the body also yawns shortly before it's about to vomit. Like, when you're feeling sea sick or car sick. This is the body's method of making sure the 'way is clear' for your big moment.

I know that video is Adam Savage from Mythbusters and that they did an experiment on that as well (well, I'm not so sure about that). But I wanted to say that I've watched the Mad Labs (of NG UK) version of this experiment (which I can't find a clip of... :guilty:) that the have a few people watch a video of a person yawning. Was very interesting to watch and I laughed when they actually yawned.....

I forced myself to yawn  I kinda like yawning for some reason, feels nice.

Heh. I'm watching the Mythbusters which has the yawning study on it.

How bizarre is that?

I didn't yawn. The only time I know I'm going to yawn is if I see someone else doing it... then someone else does it straight after me and so on.

I have yawned many times after reading the thread, even though its mid day for me.

I didn't yawn when I saw the thread name, or reading the thread or viewing that mythbusters video. Though I do sometimes when I see others Yawn in real life.

...and what do they say? Why do people yawn?

They were just trying to see if others yawning is contagious, or that putting people in a specifically boring surrounding will induce yawning. They did prove that you can make a dog yawn by yawning directly into its face :)

I remember that episode.
But they couldn't prove yawning to be 'contagious'...

I remember yawning right before seeing this thread last night and thought that was a little ironic. It was 3:30 at the time.

I remember seeing that episode too. Great show:tup:.

I clicked yes but haven't yet... although I do feel like going back to sleep. :p

Hmm, the results of the poll are a bit shocking to me. I expected it to be heavily on the yes side, or at least a bit more even.

I didnt yawn, I had a mouth full of choc ice :D

...and what do they say? Why do people yawn?

Dull threads? (Not enough oxygen to the brain.)

Wow that was weird. I yawned.

Yes I did yawn because Ive been working like hell the past week, all day today and went to bed at like 3am last night....

I've had to many mountain dews and energy drinks to yawn.
my dad keeps telling me that energy drinks are bad for you and I just laugh.
who needs sleep anyway!

Stop making me yawn!!
