I can choose not to have an avatar, and edit my signature without a a single problem. But once I try to update to a custom avatar it gives me a 'page cannot be displayed' error message.:guilty:

Is it my computer or GTP?

That's a bit harsh . I don't think I've ever had any problems with GTP....:odd:

I don't think I'm being that harsh. In the short time I've been here, I've had avatar problems, had this website fail to load for minutes at a time, triple posted & posted as someone else.

I've not received any other complaints about custom avatars, and I just checked myself and never ran into any problems. What browser are you using, Blackbird?

Sorry you've had so many problems, Nick. I run into infinite problems myself behind the scenes, but I'm running this whole show myself and learning along the way. I do the best I can.

I do the best I can.
Which sums things up pretty well.. For the 2+ years I've been here, you've struggled with dead servers, crashed Databases, Bankrupt companies holding servers for ransom, Not to mention us petty (l)users + the Lord knows what else we don't see- And if that isn't good enough - Then I don't know what would be...

Jordan - I salute you

Avatar problems - ??? 99% of the 10,000+ users have never had avatar problems beyond knowing how to spell it. And if you do, so what? It's a little picture on an internet forum somewhere. Big deal.

Failing to load - yet another result of success. Server stress isn't an issue for little forums that get a handful of posts per day. If it's that big an issue to you, find a forum with so few members that you never have to wait for the server to deal with them all. But that's no fun, is it? Because instead of waiting for a minute or two for the page to load, you're waiting an hour or two for somebody to post something.

Triple posting - see above. Have a minute's patience and don't click the button multiple times if you don't get an instant reaction. If you click once it will not multiple post unless you try to refresh it all the time. Stop being ADD and wait a bit, or go somewhere with fewer members.

Posting as 'someone else' I don't quite see, but with database of a million messages or more, I suppose a hiccup can happen once in a while. If this happened to you it's the only instance I've heard about.

I can't imagine whining that much about a free service that is provided at great expense in time and money by someone out of the generosity of their own good nature. If you've got the resources to do better, have at it.

I hate to sound like that, but sheesh - some people's children...

Jebus Nick. I know I was insensitive, but that takes the micturation.

This site, since the crash and server move - none of which was the fault of Jordan or any part of the coding of the site - has been, without exception, the most reliable site I visit. Ever.

I agree, I was an very active member at civfantics and doomworld both of which I dont get around to visting to much anymore mainly because GT is the only good game I still play. Anyway the site has very few problems if any compared to others I have joined. Even gamespot and IGN don't have Jordan's reliablity. I can't imagine leaving this place. In my opinion GTP is the epitome of what a website should be, and I will always help out in anyway I can.

I agree with blake. You two will make yourself known for the wrong reasons if you make statements like that.
I have/used to have problems here. A lot of people do. The only way to get them adressed or even looked at is by speaking out. The only way I'd get into hot water is if I bad mouthed GTP. I would never even consider that. I bow down to Jordan for creating GTP. He's the man, but we are only human. Mistakes or errors are made. Wether it's in the coding or what not. Nothing is perfect. GTP is in the sense of atmoshere and personalities and all of that kind of stuff. But as a website itself. It is not perfect. Close though. GTP still beats anyother site I've been to. I understand how hard it is for Jordan. I don't even think I could attempt trying to make an award winning forum. Cudos to you Jordan.

I didn't mean to get you guys angry. I was just pointing out some of the simple problems that I had. Besides, GTP is still the best forum on the Internet.

I'll accept at face value that you didn't mean to come across as harsh, but there's a difference between saying that something seems to be wrong and saying that "this website has a lot of problems", particularly when that's not really true.

It's your stupid Yahoo! browser. There's nothing wrong with GTPlanet.

Well, other than I don't have a Premium membership, but that can be negotiated. Just joking.

It can't be my browser, sUn, if everything else works fine on a seperate computer with the exact same browser.

SBC Yahoo! DSL Default Browser. I have firefox but it is not working at all, as in it doesn't load even its homepage. But again it can't be my browser for the reason above. So it's down to my computer's problem and I don't know what it is.

Ditto

off-topic like many others: Jordan is doing one hell of a job for doing everything for this site, I think, alone! I'm sure it's my computer because as you can see I have my avatar changed and it's not my computer i'm on it's the other computer.:grumpy: Had to be my computer.
