Yet ANOTHER FireFox Question...

Okay, so I use Firefox exclusively as my browser of choice. Forgive me if my lingo is a bit juvenile.

I have a toolbar right underneath the toolbar containing the address and navigate buttons (back, forward, stop, home). This toolbar holds shortcuts to my favourite bookmarks. Now, when first adding a bookmark to this toolbar, its icon is always the default piece of paper with the folded corner, but for most of the shortcuts, when you first use them to visit the page, the icon changes to whatever the website has supplied. My problem is the shortcuts that do not change. For instance, my Hotmail, Rogers.com, and Download.com shortcuts remain with the default icon.

Obviously, my question can now be easily interred:

Can I change those icons in any way?

The term you’re looking for is “favicon”. ;) Anyway, I Googled and found this, though I’ve never used it before.

It won't work apparently because my version of Firefox (newest version) isn't compatible with it, but it says in the message that it's compatible with Firefox 1.0 and up...

I just use a theme that doesn't use favicons. It's less cluttered that way.

I'd use Crystal Dream or Noia 2.0, but I don't know why people use iFox. Not having favicons is like not having any icons on your desktop; you don't know what's what.

Hahahaha .. so true.

I could figure out whats what but it would take longer. Its so much easier not having to read the text when you can just scan the favicons :).

http://rapidshare.de/files/13760961/favicon_picker-0.2.6-fx.jar.html

problem solved, hopefully it should now work fine in 1.5, i just opened up the .jar (they are basically zip files) and changed the max version in the install.rdf text file, the max version was set to 1.0

seems a bit stupid really, but that was the only reason the extension would not work in 1.5, the case is the same for most aparently "incompatible" extensions

edit: lol, i did all that, then i notice the link to the new 1.5 compatible version in the user coments on the firefox site :)

The first link says it's an invalid or corrupt file, and the second link (to the Mozilla page) doesn't work either. When I try to download it, it still says it won't work on my version of Firefox!!

Thing is, I know where evrything's placed so I don't even have to look.

hmm.. odd, the rapidshare link works fine for me, and it installs fine (Firefox 1.5.0.1)

try one of these links instead: http://d.turboupload.com/d/377843/favicon_picker-0.2.6-fx.jar.html

save it anywhere, then drag & drop the file into the Extensions window, and it should work

I finally downloaded the Favicon Picker extension, and I get the option to change the icon, but when I try to change it to a picture I have on my computer, it never takes. No new icon appears with the bookmark. Is the icon supposed to be in a specific file format, other than .jpg?
