All right, with the death of the family's old computer, we are now looking for a new one. Budget=$700, including shipping if neccessary. I've been looking at custom PC building sites (I know a techie) and so far, I just ended up looking at pre-built stuff  Anyway, from the half hour I've been searching, this seems to be looking pretty good. I suppose I should help you guys out with a list of criteria that needs to be met with a minimum of sacrifice.
  • Under $700AUD incl. shipping
  • Must be able to run NFS Shift 2 at Medium settings (I can settle for bad shadows)
  • Must have a good amount of HDD space (320GB+)
  • At least one CD/DVD drive.
  • Don't need an OS included.
  • No monitor either.
  • ..and I don't need a wireless adapter.

All help is appreciated.

That won't be able to run Shift 2.... The GPU is too crappy. It will run Counter Strike Source well though! :P

Thanks for that, I'll have a look. And I figured something was up with it, for only $589  I was too busy to take a proper look at everything :)

RAM doesn't need to accounted in anymore, just found 2 2GB DDR3 sticks in my mysterious draw of everything

2 GB of RAM is now a bit average...4 GB is better. But as a starter just to get the computer to be on budget, it will do for the moment. I guess you can always get a 4 GB kit or just add more at a later date.

I just hope Shift 2 doesn't require all the RAM.

Remember, RAM speed is also very important.. the difference between 1066 and 1666 is huge when they are in high demand.

You got any AUS computer parts stores? I will make a part list(or I could take a PC and then it could take a little spending to spec it up) since I know I have the time.

Not so much in Sandy Bridge (Which you want if you're spending $750). 1333 is plenty for everyday usage. And almost makes no difference in gaming if you're using 1066 or 2133.
