I'm going to upgrade, but I don't have quite enough money for a S III. I've been checking out the Sony Xperia ion and HTC One X, as those seem to be the next best things for AT&T.

I was almost sold on the One X until I found out the only version that they have on AT&T is the LTE version, which only has 16 GB of memory (versus 32 for the normal ones) and it has a dual-core S4 instead of that quad-core whose name evades my mind right now.

I'd get the Xperia if it wasn't for the fact that's it's only on Android 2.3 and has a last-gen processor.

So, yeah. Anybody have any experience with either of these phones or could recommend another one? I've looked at review site after review site and it seems that if it's not a S III, people don't like it, which doesn't really help me.

Would highly recommend you the One X.

I've had mine since late march, and it's a really great phone.

Its quick, great for surfing on the interwebz, amazing camera (though I rarely use it anyway) and overall a good experience.

And to be honest, I really hate the looks and interface on the Xperia models.

Just get a phone and just root it and install a custom rom to use the most of the internal hardware to the best of their ability.

As far as the Sony goes it seems that they are pretty good at putting up the updates fairly quickly.

My current phone has the same processor as the ion and it does everything you need a smart phone to do.

The One X is supposed to be incredible. I would also recommend the Samsung Galaxy Note. That's the phone I have right now and I love it to absolute bits. Great piece of technology, never off it really.

Do you have the normal one or the LTE version?

And if I REALLY can't live with the skin on whatever phone I get, I can always root it.

Which is probably what I'll end up doing, but newer hardware is better/I could squeeze even more out of it with a custom ROM.

I'm worried that Sony will never update it to ICS, (even though they've said that they would) which would suck.

Good to know that the processor doesn't totally suck.

The Note is the same price as the S III, isn't it?

And I don't think I could tolerate a phablet.

Well, in Norway we only got one version. I guess its the normal one.
I have AT&T, so the only version I get is the LTE, which has half of the memory (16GB vs. 32GB, and you can't put a micro SD into it) and half of the cores as the normal one. Sucks only getting the LTE.

The Snapdragon S4 is a very good processor. It runs cooler, uses less battery power and provides a similar amount of power. In every use, you don't need a phone with a Tegra 3 CPU.

Yeah, I'm not going to be able to afford a Tegra.

I'm pretty much sold on the One X now. I don't like the fact that I can't change the battery or put a SD card into it, but it comes with free Dropbox storage for two years, and the lack of the Tegra should help me with the battery.

Or is there something else coming out soon?

You could wait for the Note 2 but I doubt that what will be in your price range. Is it possible to buy a phone out outright of a website (i.e. Amazon) and have it added to the AT&T network?

I have the xperia ion right now (in fact I'm posting from it:)) its an amazing phone, same ram as the s3 and it has a great camera if you like photography in a phone (which I do). It only has 16 GB of space but up to 32 with SD card and mine came with a 7 GB SD card for free. Its also due for ice cream sandwich soon so it wont be behind the s3 in the least. Message me if you want to know more :)

I have an Xperia S, basically very similar to an Ion but a little older. I was about to choose between this, the S3 and the One X. I ended up choosing it because:
- Always had great experiences with Sonys/Sony Ericssons
- IMO looks much better than the others, especially the transparent strip which is a certain eye-catcher.
- Fast enough for my uses
- Easy for my arms at least (not sure for others since it is relatively sharp and rectangular).

You can but it would most likely cost more, unless you were planning to use pay-as-you-go. If you're buying a smartphone though, contract generally seems like the cheapest way to go (in the UK at least), especially if you look around and get a good deal.

All I can say is, get the S3. I have the international version with the quad core and I must say its amazing!

If you can afford the $800-$1000 price tag for the fsctory version... GET IT!

Can't afford or tolerate the phablet.

And yeah, I think it's possible. Why do you ask?

Did you read through the OP at all?
Nice. If the T isn't $200 that's probably what I'll get. The LG Optimus G (I think that's what it's called) looks good too.
