Yet another "what should I get?" thread

My wife is talking Taurus.
If that's the case, I hope she enjoys it as much as I'll enjoy her Camry.
 
The Taurus is one of those cars that are extremely hit or miss when it comes to build quality and reliability. I personally would avoid it, the time I spent with the Taurus rental while the family car was being fixed was horrible. The seats were pretty uncomfortable, the steering was extremely sloppy, and the fuel mileage was not much better than our '97 Tahoe LT... Ok, I'm stretching the truth just a bit there... But I was dissapointed in the MPG.
 
Y'all keep forgetting that I'm on a limited budget here.
If the wife wants a Taurus, that'll be fine.
I'll take the Camry with no qualms.
I'll try like hell to influence the decision to something that I'd like to drive.
I'm leaning toward the Subies, but would be perfectly happy with a Jetta, especially a diesel. I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Golf/GTI either.
Barring that, I'll try to influence the decision to something that she'd like to drive, or would feel good with my son driving. And I'll keep my truck, or abscond with the Toyota.
 
If your wife decides on the Taurus, I hope she chooses one with the Duratec V6 that makes 200 HP (they're rare though), not the boat anchor Vulcan V6 that only makes 155 HP. :)
 
My girl could care less how much power the car has.:lol:
If she's comfy, has good heat, A/C and sounds, she's happy as a clam.
I'm the one with the power fixation.
 
I'd go with the Subaru without a second thought. WRX preferably.

Does it have to be a wagon, though? I somewhat prefer the Sedan, it feels a bit more solid. It's shocking how much backseat room they've got in both models, though. I can fit comfortably (admittedly, I'm only average size, 5'10") in my own back seat.
 
I figure a wagon will be a bit cheaper to buy than a sedan.
And I'm trying to find a good, fun car on the cheap.
But I want enough comfort that I can live with the thing for an 80 mile round trip 5 times a week.
 
Okay, the jury has returned with a verdict.
Due to the low price (a gift), we now have a 2000 Civic EX sedan.
It's basically loaded, and I hate to even ride in the thing.
It's a great little car. But, I'm a six-footer that is long in the torso and short in the leg.
So, with the cover for the sun-roof closed, my head rubs the ceiling, even with the seat in the lowest position.
It's also a LOT louder at highway speeds than "my" Camry.
She's getting 37 MPG and I'm getting 30.
Her driver's seat is manual, mine is power. She has a sunroof.
We both have automatics.
Nothing beats a free car.
I'm still trying to find ways to keep my third kid out of my damn truck though!:lol:

As an aside, it is currently raining cats and dogs. Both of 'my' cars are in the garage.:lol:

Tell ya what Gil, I own a 1990 Subaru Legacy Wagon that has a TAPE player in it. But it's gonna cost you double now knowing how much you love your tapes.
It even has "CD capability" if you still have your DiscMan and car adaptor with you. (I'm sure you do. ;) )

The car has well over 200K on the dial. Some of the power windows don't work and neither does the heater. But I'll cut you a deal and give it to you for the low, low price of $12,350!

Congratulations on finally getting something, Gil... I can empathize with you on the lack of room... I've finally seen the "new" Civic in person, and to my disappointment, it feels cramped compared to other new compacts.

Good for your wife and that consumption... with gas the way it is this summer, the Civic is probably a god-send. :lol:

The new job has much suckage. But, I'm getting by.
IF my boss would only quit, or drive off a cliff....
As for the Subie...Tempting...
12 grand vs. Free... *carefully weighing options*

Crap! I have 2 kids in college, a third about to go, and Prom is coming up.
I guess I'll have to "settle" on the free car.:lol:

Did I mention that it's a 2000 with less than 30k on the odo?
It actually turned over 23,000 on the drive home from Colo Springs.
My wife loves it!
Good thing, cause she ain't getting this Camry back!:lol:
 
Nice! Low mileage, reliable, free cars FTW! And it's just gravy that your wife likes it better than the Camry. Sounds great, Gil.
 
My final update on this "situation":
I have fallen pretty hard for the Camry. Though, I wouldn't turn down a G35 (coupe or sedan).:lol:
It's still pretty much a "girly" car. But it gets decent gas mileage, rides really smoothly. Especially when compared to the Ranger.
My son is enjoying the Ranger, but doesn't keep it nearly as clean as I did.
Funny how whatever I'm driving at the moment is the cleanest car of the lot...:lol:
I thought I'd miss the truck more. But the supple ride of the Toyota won me over.
So, I guess I should learn not to be so militant about things I haven't "tested".
