Ey dude, today when i was playing GT i noticed my PS3 was running quite hot... i went down to feel how hot it was and it smelled all like it was burning.

Does this mean that there is an upcoming YLOD? Its the very first 60gb ps3 bought 1 month after release.

Have anybody ever noticed any of this before? And is there something i can do? Cause it seems redicioules to buy a new when ps4 is released in less than 1 year.

Know this is a little out of topic but i know no other forum to put this :)

Thanks in advance - Greisen

The only thing you could do is to take a vacuum cleaner and put in on the vents and get the dust out, should save your PS3. Sadly i never did that so Rip 60gb Ps3!

I think that burning smell might be the dust in the machine as the above reply states. Its worth a clean up in there. Good luck.

What you're experiencing isnt ylod. But it will soon lead into it.
Keep the ps3 cool, and vaccum it. I had ylod recently, not from overheating though.

Symptoms for me were

1-stops reading discs randomly. Have to keep reloading. More often as time progressed.
2-rlod. Console turns off during gameplay (red light flashes), but will work when powered back on. Fixable by cleaning hdd port and vacuum.
3-ylod. Console turns off with a yellow then red light and won't restart at all.

I'm feeling like I have been pretty lucky after reading this thread. I had my late 07' PS3 lose a disk drive last January. It makes a great (although, loud) set top box. Of course the PS3 slim has been fine since then but I do feel like it is some how a little slower.

Symptoms of my YLOD: None.
Of my brother's YLOD: Fans running on high very soon after powering on, otherwise none.
Of my mate's YLOD: PS3 powered itself off and had a flashing red light twice in one month, but nothing unusual in the week that it died. Turns out the flashing red light can mean a hard drive error, though, so that might have just been general ageing rather than a sign of YLOD.

In short, you can't always tell if a YLOD is coming, but if your PS3 is somewhat overweight (i.e. not a slim) you can expect it to die sooner or later, mine and my mates' were 60GB launch models and my brother's was a slightly later 40GB one. Burning smells are dust, if it was either of the processors your console would be long dead already.

Oh and if it's out of warranty I very much recommend you open it up and blow the dust out with a can of compressed air, vacuums aren't a good idea because they can introduce static electricity (not a good thing, obviously) and aren't even that good at cleaning dust deep inside the console where it matters. The cooler on a fat console is basically several thin plates stacked on top of each other with spaces between for the fan to draw air through and then that air is spat out at the back, if dust builds up in those spaces it ends up trapping a lot of heat because it blocks air flow and insulates it.

So yeah, I'd really recommend that if you're worried. There's a load of Youtube video describing the disassembly process, it's not hard but you do need a torx screwdriver.

Hi don't know what to tell you. Are you talking about the "fat" PS3? because I have the slim one and it gets quite hot when playing GT5. Any recomendations?
