GTPlanet, here is a special topic focused on the drivers who drive like they own the road. I guess the audience I'm talking about is the ones with the big American cars revving up their engines like every street is a drag strip. For the many people who may have glanced at my "A Reminder Why...Japanese Cars" know just how I feel about why I am an American, but it doesn't mean that I have to love American cars. And the same goes for people who own the streets. I guess when American sportscar owners like to talk about that some drivers of sport compacts and imports are the ones who usually like getting into accidents and causing trouble. And I bet they also think that they are the ones who illegally race on the streets at night, a la "Need for Speed: Underground." But in another sense, some people think that it's perfectly fine to rev up their small blocks, 351 Windsors, or whatever, down the streets at night thinking they own the damn road. Same goes for drivers of big American cars and trucks, thinking the road is their race track, and that only that person is obligated to drive properly on the road. And several times, I've seen ragged old Cadillacs and beaten-up, old Ford trucks drive like crap on the streets, when someone is just waiting to hit them and force them into an accident. So if you ask me, Americans can stereotype drivers of sport compacts and imports thinking they are "2 Fast 2 Furious" come to life. But when some drivers of American cars take over the road, they think they are the crap. Now is a good time to say:
YOU DON'T OWN THE FREAKING ROAD!!! So how do you feel about people in mostly American cars driving like crap, as if their Detroit Iron matters on the road more than anything else? And how do you feel about these American cars running down the street at night, pretending the streets are a drag strip? I'll start.
Don't get me wrong. I respect American cars and trucks. But one thing I DON'T respect are people who drive like their jalopies like their cars are better than anything else on the road. This same issue is reminiscent of F-body's all-Chevy attitude. It surprised me that this guy hated Fords, and Ford is as American as any other car company. But I know that just because you're in America and you have American iron doesn't mean you rule the streets. You see, this is the case of American pride stooping to unfathomable lows. Even if my parents owned either a Mustang Mach 1 or a Yenko Camaro, I still know that I'm driving a car and not a beacon of American pride. That thing with 4 wheels and a motor is a CAR, not a street weapon, not an armored car, it is just a normal car or truck. You want to rev your machine to the high heavens? Take it to a 1/4 mile. Or if you're a REAL driver, take it to a road course.
So what is an example? One time, I seen a woman in her Mustang convertible, and she basically had her rear view mirror pointed at her. And I know so because my parents were driving me home this past Saturday and noticed her. And I'm like, what if you get rear-ended, Mustang lady? As I said, I'm American, I just think differentely. I'm not perfect, I just think differentely. And people, even Speed Channel show "Sports Car Revolution" think that most of the people causing all the problems on the road are tuner cars and sport compacts/imports. And I mean, I know that a Supra with a Veilside bodykit and Borla exhaust does not qualify as a pure sportscar, but damn it, please. Quit bashing on these people!!! They enjoy driving and probably don't see themselves in pure sportscars. And as I said, every car on the road is fragile, whether from America or Japan, or I don't care if they come from the island of Madagascar, every car breaks down. And I hear of people saying that an American NA motor lasts longer than a Japanese turbo. Maybe even people saying a Japanese car last shorter than Detroit Iron. I mean, American cars aren't perfect. I still can't believe F-Body saying "my Camaro can beat your Lotus Elise for much less." And also coming up with "riceboy..." whatever.com site. Not every car is built to withstand the same amount of pressure that an American muscle car would.
To make a long story short, do you think you own the road with your American-built, American-powered, American-driven machine? You sure don't. Let me tell you something. There was a saying someone said in an old thread of mine called "Losing." The quote went as: "even monkeys fall from trees." American cars are probably cheaper to buy because they are built in the States, and just because it's American doesn't mean you should disrespect others and make fun of any foreign car. Japanese sports cars are not "expensive pieces of junk" with go-kart motors, German cars aren't sportscars for the rich, and British cars aren't luxury cars costing twice as much as a Corvette. I mean, okay. I like all cars, but I don't like the brains of people who think their American machine can outhandle, outaccelerate, or outperform anything non-American. Sure, you can say that these are some of America's best sports cars, but it doesn't mean that you own the road. Maybe I'm starting to get REALLY sick of all this "road owning" stuff. To me, people love performance, but would want an "econo box." There are people in these small cars that may have a chance to Autocross their machines, so you can't say their cars aren't racers. Autocross may not be NASCAR (or NAScrap to some), but at least it's better than smoky burnouts and loud engines. Everyone knows what an American V8 sounds, basically. It's because American cars think they rule... the WORLD. Well this may offend some people, but American cars aren't s****. So, one more time...
