You know what I like about about NASCAR being in GT5....

The stock cars raced at Suzuka in the mid 1990's

I thought it was Twin Ring Motegi oval course. The Cup race at Suzuka was canceled. Perhaps the Winston West series ran Suzuka, I'm not sure where their race was held. The Cup race was 1998, the "Motegi Coca-Cola 500".

The Cup series was also supposed to run the oval at Lasitz Ring, in Germany, that never happened either. :(

Anyways, the idea of a console game with Cup cars that drive correctly, not just point and shoot is just awesome. I'm curious as to how they'd stack up against other tin top cars, like the V8's, or DTM cars. Also, just being able to run on circuits not native to the Cup cars will be a thrill, Midfield, HSR, Valencia, Tsukaba, Suzuka... on and on. :D

There were 2 NASCAR Winston Cup Series exhibition races run in Japan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuka_Circuit. They actually ran rain tires for the first time on the 97 race...

No, it's more like, there's already a thread about NASCAR and people's reactions to it. You don't need to make a separate thread about how it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.:grumpy:
Nor do you need to post in said duplicate thread if you are not interested in it...

When I get round to racing in Nascar, I'm not hopping into some American gas-guzzler. No, I'm going to put a turbo on a JGTC Skyline and lap the hicks in their Fords, Dodges and Chevys.

I don't think an 800bhp GT500 car would compete on an oval against an 800bhp stock car. They're designed for different purposes, and if one or the other tries fighting in the others back yard it is likely to lose in this instance.

Yeah, damn hicks Marcos Ambrose, Max Papis, and Juan Pablo Montoya. Oh wait...

I'm not really sure where an 800hp GT500 would out race a stock car...

On a normal track, not an oval. I hope you realise I said "GT500" in reference to post above mine which was talking about turboing a JGTC car and winning. JGTC or Super GT as it is now runs two classes of car, the GT300 class and the GT500 class. I am not talking about the Ford or Shelby Mustang GT500 or any other road car with GT500 in the name.

No doubt.^

Same holds true for any other stock car series, Nascar just happens to race primarily ovals, which there is no point in bashing, or throwing words around about the drivers that just make one look ignorant.

I'm happy that there will be, (and I can't say for sure, but I have no reason to doubt...) a quality representation of Nascar on a console for once. I think more people will end up enjoying it, even if they've never seen a race before. I can't wait for three wide five rows deep at Daytona online  that will be intense! Well, that's if they stick with 16 cars per grid, and if people can do it without destroying each other. I really hope so, because I know it will be the closest racing in the game if it does pan out like that.

Edit:  Whats the deal with F1 drivers interest in Nascar as of late? Seems like they are curious enough about the cars to be willing to test them. Weird kind of?

It's interesting that PD took interest in adding NASCAR of all racing, to be honest. I guess to boost US sales but it's kind of strange

I think it was more of a Sony thing, I have theories about it but I don't feel like getting into that as there isn't really any proof behind them.

When you consider the fact FIA have been busying pissing off both drivers and teams its quite obvious that these individual see other racing leagues as being worthwhile. Ontop some drivers see the move to other leagues as looking good on their resume, plus there is the money it bring.

Other than I clearly agree with Vettel in that interview that F1 can learn a thing from NASCAR giving its rise internationally.

On an interesting, it look like Sony also want to license the drivers also per this posting on EA's NASCAR forums:

Well PD really isn't a stranger to NASCAR. Remember in GT2 how it was possible to recreate Mark Martin's #6 Ford? Aside from that appealing to the fans of Le Mans, F1(F2007), SuperGT/JGTC, WRC and NASCAR could also be the reason behind the race cars we see.

What do I think of it...whether you like it or not personally I see it as a good thing because you are getting all of these racing leagues in one game.

After playing a few hours of "old school NASCAR" action on GTR2, using Ford Falcon Sprint cars, i gotta say I'm hooked on Darlington Speedway, but i have to say even with a full 42 car grid things got lonely, i wonder how PD will manage to keep the excitement and thrill using one third of that grid.

They should also try to include historic NASCAR events and grids.

Like brainfade I look forward to taking a Nascar on Nurburgring, they look and drive so awkward on road courses which is why I love it. :D

You said that they drive awkward on road courses but by now we all know how to set up lots of different cars for road courses. So my question is what is going to be so awkward about NASCARS after we set them up like a road car? I think it is going to be harder to set a car up to not push or be to free on exit of a corner on oval tracks. Unless we only get large tracks like Daytona, that is not a challenge, try a short track like Darlington.

It's not all about the settings you know, there are things you can't simply change the settings of that have a big say on how the car handles and behaves. A NASCAR was simply not designed for road courses, this is evident when you actually see a NASCAR on a road course.

I respect that but with our road course knowledge I honestly think it will be easier to set it up for Sazuka then it will be for Darlington. Just my humble opinion.

Watch them race on road courses, sure they can do it but they do it so awkward and are off pace to anything designed for road course racing to similar spec. It's not a insult to Nascars and the fact they race a car designed for high speed oval driving on a road course gains my respect.

Just look at it, so cool

Ok you made your point, but why in hell did you show a pic of Kyle Bush's car? Just kidding, but I hate that arrogant piece of crap!

It is nice to see lots of Motorsports represented in GT5. But since they included NASCAR, and the better of the both, the WRC. I hope they put the pinnacle of Motorsports, Formula One.. In the game. And Yes I know the Ferrari F2007 is in the game, but how about some of the other machines... and even some other ones like old classic ones like the John Player Specials and the 92 Williams and Ferrari's. But like with everything else.. this will never be!

Yay another Juan Pablo Montoya fan. =)

Count me in as well.... but I'm still bitchy about him leaving Formula One... He downgraded to NASCAR.. so sad. All that talent and he ends up there... wtf man!!

and yes I know some of you like NASCAR, I'm just sharing opinion.
