You know you love cars when...

I can easily identify a Honda starting up, or any Toyota corolla,or an E9X M3, they're all pretty characteristic and are sounds I regularly hear. I can also probably identify a V8 from V12 and an I6 from a V6 and such

When you can hear the difference between a 4.6 L and a 5.0 mustang.

When recalling a memory is linked to what car you owned at the time to remember it clearer.
When your dream cars aren't necessarily supercars, but more obscure makes, just to say you had one.
When you despise new generation re-hashes of a classic.
When you start to feel sorry for a free junker project, or are parting one out.
When parking space is priority when choosing a place to live (sadly there aren't many two bay garages with a bedroom above)
When you confuse the car noobs saying Eleanor was a yellow '73 Mach 1.
When you are the master of towing and ratchet straps (though maybe that's just for being around classics  )

I don't know what I'd do if I could buy a car, and then start it up to drive it home. It just wouldn't be natural. Isn't mandatory for everyone to buy a car that's been sitting for years, and you don't know exactly what is still good, and what needs replacing? :dunce:

Definitely a plus one on the Eleanor comment. The original Gone in 60 Seconds had quite possibly the coolest car chaseof any movie. It was priceless the way that lady responded when the beat up Mustang rolled through the car wash.

I had that feeling with mine. Turns out just about everything has been good!

You copy someones thread.

Did I? I was aware there was a "You know you love muscle cars when...," and I read someone's post in that that stated that there was a need for a generic "you know you love cars when..." thread. Sorry if I did steal somebody's thread idea.

That just makes us nerds.

No! Being able to quote Douglas Adams makes you a nerd. I can do this.
Sorry about the double post.

When you can consistently do a perfect heel-and-toe downshift. And when most of your gaming library is racing games.

When multiple people comment on the fact that I refer to my car as a 'she'.

When you take the long route somewhere just to get some extra seat time.

When you wash your car in the middle of the winter.

When you abruptly pull off the road and dive behind cover because you saw a Toyota on the same road as you.

Pfft...I think everyone should move off the road, regardless of what brand of vehicle I'm driving!

...when you walk around corners and along corridors similar to the ideal racing line, preparing to turn for the next corner.
...when you watch a bad movie or commercial to spot what cars are in it.
...when you look at the family album twice to see what cars are in the background.

I have heard the term heel toe shift, but I have no idea what it means.

It is when you blip the throttle while simultaneously braking and downshifting (i.e. one foot is on the clutch). It is not easy, but helps quicken shifts and makes you sound like a boss.

It does depends on the layout of your cars pedal box, clutch, brake and accelerator pedal travel and.... how big feet your feet are... it can make you look look like a boss to the 1% of people that know what you just did, but more commonly in my case it makes you look like a learner driver because I fail to either change gear smoothly or brake effectively. Out of the cars I've owned I could only manage it in my Rover 216GSi and my BMW 525i Tourer, mostly because both those cars clutches were past it, and that helps to smooth out the process.

Having said that... I only like cars,.... I love driving (and BMW's :D)

The best part of your journey to University is looking at the Aston Martin parked outside a house beside the train-station rather than looking at the sexy girl beside you.

I spotted a V70R in a commercial and I'm ticked because I don't remember what the commercial was for so I can't find it online.

You can see girls any time. But a nice (rare) car? Not so often. 👍

when you finally get your first job and the only thing you can think about is what car you're going to get with your money.

-When you can't help but feel annoyed about people who don't know cars enough to get a bit angry. Hate it when I hear those popular kids talking about "knowing" cars...
-When you go drifting with shopping carts at the grocery store while you're bored when brought along with your mom. (I don't anymore, since she's gotten pretty mad about me accompanying her )
-When you're having a conversation with someone, then see an interesting car and stop the entire conversation to look at it.
-When you ask your friends to borrow their cell phones to take pictures of cars you've spotted. Yeah, I don't have a cell phone. :sly:
-Boring your brother with always suggesting to play racing games when he wants to play FPS games.
-When your teacher tells you to make flashcards for vocabulary and add pictures to help, as always...adding pictures of cars that have to do with the vocab. :D
-When you flip through channels during the weekend during lunch and find some kind of motorsport airing and watch it long after lunch.

A bit long of a list? >_>

You sound just like me. I love drifting carts. The local Ikea has carts that have rotating wheels on all four corners, meaning you have to drift to get any speed at all around the bends. It's really fun. Also, my parents won't let me get a cell phone , so I know how you feel.

Owh, those are so me :D

Seriously though, I've done so and that made people hate me. So what?!?

EDIT:

For the 3rd point, sometimes though I'll tell my friend to just ''Owh, look at that car. Awesome eh?'' and sometimes when a BMW comes I'd go ''Oh mai gaawd... A sexy BMW!'', the only thing that they will say is ''Owh come on, it's just a car... so?''.... :grumpy:

It's ok I thought someone else started one of these threads on here but I was a different forum.

Ah I'm so glad to have found this thread! Tells me that I'm still sane lol!
I do hit apexes in corners when walking and when pushing trolleys! I also overtake people in a f1 manner :x I also like to make f1 or gt car rev or Downshifts when I'm alone and Bored. And boring my friends out when I start a car chat. Many actions above are so applicable as well!

Just to add to the list
- Appreciating older cars more than modern cars
- Wishing that manual transmission will not become obsolete by the time I'll get my first drive
- I actually have no gripes about gt5 having that many skylines and miatas
- Spotting and m3 or Amg and likes makes you happy
- Marvel at the engineering of sportscars
- The Want to go back to a raceday to hear the 911 cup cars roar past or f1 zooming past, absolutely glorious!
- The desire to get into the automotive industry

:dunce:

Interesting. But when does a person need to down shift while drag racing?

Its mostly used for circuit racing and stuff to help in braking, I don't think it's applicable to drag racing? The shifting he mentioned probably refers to downshifting.

I heel and toe absolutely all the time...it's just second nature to me now. Whether I'm coming off the highway, running some twistys, or just slowing down for a red light. It's like I have a automated manual 'box. Even more fun when you add in the double clutch + heel and toe, now THAT takes time to master.

I was eating lunch with friends from school (definitely not car people) and I was in mid sentence when I heard a noise that sounded curiously like an R35 GT-R with exhaust taking off hard, so I naturally looked and stopped talking. It wasn't a GT-R (****** looking G35 with auto trans) and they are never going to let me live that one down.

When you know the cars your friends own and when they notice they think it's sort of being a stalker. I just have very good memory with cars

THIS, happens to me a lot.

But seriously there should be a GTPlanet shirt with some of these sayings on them.

When you know the cars your friends own and when they notice they think it's sort of being a stalker. I just have very good memory with cars

"I have trouble with names and faces, but I never forget a car."-Carol, in The Love Bug
I'm the same way. Whenever I'm meeting somebody, I look for their car. In fact, I identify people by their cars as much as their faces.
