So i was Recently playing Gt5 re-doing 300KM Grand Valley and Laguna Seca 200miles races, usually when im playing GT5 i am on skype voice chatting to friends or listening to a Podcast, but there was not a single person on skype for the 5 hours or so i was racing and i had exhausted my podcast library so i opened up spotify and created a playlist while pitting to get a full tank on the 300KM race.

MY question

What do you listen to while racing? (game audio, music, podcasts .ECT) and why?

usually for me it is music, podcasts or skype. this is mostly to lock out distraction, if i have this stuff on and im wearing my headphones (which i often do) i won't hear something distracting and instantly look, i already instantly snap my head to anything that moves that isn't on screen, so i need something to bloke out one of my senses from distraction

just curious to see your responses

In the early days (GT1,2,3) I would crank some Pantera or Soundgarden.
Nowadays, I just turn up the volume and listen to the sweet sound of my engine, and the occasional swooshing sound as another AI fool eats my wake turbulence. Girlfriend hates it, but the dog sleeps just fine.

I listen to those Daiki Kasho songs on the game. So awesome :D

if not those, I turn off any in-game music, it's annoying

All I need to hear is the sounds of the engine.

I make a lot of playlists for GT5. My current playlists are a mix of the Wangan Midnight and Tokyo Xtreme Racer OSTs. I uploaded my full playlists to Mediafire not too long ago actually. If you want the songs, just ask. The playlists look something like this (I linked a few of the tracks I could find on YouTube so everyone can sample the playlists a bit):

I cannot play anymore if there is no sound, so no music for me, only the engine and tires.

Like Ben above I can't drive properly if I can't hear my car, she will tell you exactly what to do and when as long as you will just listen to her...like most ladies I know! Don't tell my wife I said that

i just listen to radio 1..greg james is my favourite dj :)

This.

Music throws me way off. To drive correctly, it's me, the car, the engine and tire sounds, and nothing else.

Trance and Progressive for me. :sly:

*Progressive music*
This music will put you into "cool down mode" when not racing. This is a type of music that always puts me in relaxation, exploring through the menus. Even where you enter a event, where the cars are loading up. I just go to "car settings" to fix up my car, getting it prepared for the race.

*Trance music*
Now this is where things get "heated up mode" when entered a race. This type of music puts me into gear, reving up the engines and driving off in smoke, hearing the beat getting ready to uplift. "In seasonal events that's no possible because it's rolling starts."

I use a nice mix of different Metal genres, Death, Black, Gothic, Symphonic, Power, Progressive, Doom, and 80's Hair Metal/Hard Rock. I have the music down at around 50% with engine/race sounds at 85%. It's a nice mix as it makes the music nicely in the background.

Sometimes if I feel the need for extra stimulation or fun, I will turn on my home stereo to my favorite radio station or play a CD or something, but most of the time I just listen to the game sounds.

Then this thread belongs in the rumble strip then...

Pretty sure this thread is in the right place -- the OP is asking about people's choice of custom audio while playing GT5 specifically. The rumble strip by definition is off-topic... for discussing anything at all.

In GT5.....well, I mute the songs to listen to the engine, but sometimes when I need motivation I turn up Alternative like Coldplay and U2 or Electronic like Daft Punk and Pretty Lights.

Usually I don't listen to music, as it can distract me (having found myself sitting at the rev limiter for a while numerous times) but in long races I love to pick a fun car to drive and listen to Absolute Radio. It's just brilliant.

I used to drive with music during GT3, but early GT4 I turned it off to hear the engine sound. And now I really can't enjoy driving/racing with the music at all, especially with manual gear.
I never play games with non in-game music, for me that just ruins the game AND the music I love.

Listen to my own selected music tracks, starting from old Rock ending with DubStep. It adds alot of fun and thrills, engine sound is a must btw.
