After six months of working there, I asked the boss for a new monitor, after all, about half the campus was using new 17" ones, it just didn't seem fair. But money was an issue, after all my boss figured my work wasn't all tha important, color layout wasn't necessary.
Well, after a year of working there, I was off one weekday, and the monitor amazingly blew out on my day off. My boss was using my computer at the time, too! So when I came into work the next day, I had a nice new 15" monitor (well, it was a big improvement!) on my desk.
My boss said, "How did you ever get anything done with that old thing! It blew up right in the middle of something important!" So now you have that monitor you've always wanted! Needless to say, resolution, refresh rate, and clarity made my job a little easier for the next 18 months.
I've always guessed the elcetrical gods were in my favor that day.
