Here's mine.

desktop.jpg

I like to keep an uncluttered desktop, and running at 1600x1200 gives me lots of screen area (but not as much as LoudMusic!) for things like the two-row taskbar (which is unusually underutilised in this pic!)

This is my home PC - neither of my work PCs have enough memory to make it acceptable to use a desktop image. And I'm even thinking about taking the image off this one!

If anyone wants the Audi pic, PM me, and I'll let you have it, because it is public domain.

On the Talena issue, I think the third pic down in the row on the left hand side is the nicest. :)

Well I did, until I saw LoudMusic's!!

It's good for what I'm doing: image manipulation and web development. Trust me, when you're dealing with an image that's 4332x2870 (35mm frame@4000dpi) 1600x1200 isn't really enough!

I'm storing them electronically, and retouching/cropping as needed. I hope to set up a gallery one day, so I'm building up a library of images. 15GB and counting!

If I've posted it to the web, you can use it for anything you'd like. All I ask is that if someone inquires as to where it came from, mention my name (:

That's cool that you're doing digital image manipulation. Dual monitors is really nice for that stuff as well. I can open the image full screen on one monitor and put all the tools on the other. And I still have room left for a GTP window and my email (:

wow sounds like have a dual monitor thing would be kinda cool

Here's mine, shrunken down, in the interest of saving space. ;)
My Desktops usually last about a week before I get bored, and go shopping for a new one, or make my own (like this collage) :)

The lighthouse pic is pretty famous. its off the coast of france somewhere. actually the famous version of that pic, has a guy standing in the doorway, at the bottom as the waves come up and around him, pretty cool :)

Is Darth Vader the new dark lord of the recycling bin? ;) :p

I know the photo that you are talking about, and the lighthouse is called "La Jument" which means the mare (Don't know if that's the actual name of the lighthouse or not) There's a few lighthouses in France that suffer under rough seas.

(This isn't the same one as in that photo with the guy in the shadows.)

Nonetheless, I love a good lighthouse. :D

Are you sure its not he same lighthouse? it looks exactly like it, and the photo angle is the same.

eh, nevermind i found the pic, it is a different lighhouse :)

Well, I can't say I'm 100 percent positive, but....

See the pic on the lower left? and top center? They are also labeled La Jument. Look at the shape of the top of that compared to the one in my photo. One is a giant ball, and the other is a cross.

We could work on an 'auto desktop collage maker' as an Active Desktop. That way you'd get a new desktop of images everytime it refreshed.

If we started with a bunch of really high-res images, and a script that would overlap about 7 of them just a little, then randomly select them and fit to the boxes ... that'd be pretty sweet! We could even theme it and have it pick a different theme each time too.

Let me know what you think (:

I had a program a while back, I'm pretty sure it was off of Download.com.... It would randomly select images from a pre-selected folder(s). It was pretty cool, but I never got quite the selections that I would have wanted to mix. (Plus it's fairly important as to which photos overlap others ;))
I have a few ideas that would create the illusion a little better, but I'm afraid that the burden of the actual work would be on you, as I am not exactly profficient in HTML. :amish:

I could EASILY do this... Combining Layers with a random image script. However, the feathered look you get by photoshoping the two images wouldn't work, unless.... acutally, I think I could get that to work to!

I think I could pull this off, that is if people provide pictures so I can work with....

Deathhawk and LoudMusic, I think this is an awesome idea! I have actually been looking for something just like that, too, and I for one would find it very useful! :)

Tom, thanks for the link to the lighthouses, this is an incredible picture!

HOLY **** .....some of you guys really know your stuff!

i don't even know simple things like how you got your desktops on here and how to set your resolution so high .......my res is only at 1024 X 768 ... the video card is capable of 2048 X 1536 but i have no idea how to get it that high .....is it because my LCD flat panel is only 15" ?
