Your fav V4/V6/V8/V10/V12 engine sound

I did run a contest where people voted on their favorite engine a couple years ago.
 
The Carrera GT's V10 is amazing, a sound that will grab you when not paying attention. Thing is though, after hearing the Gallardo, the low grumble sounds better to me. Raised on Small-Blocks, it kinda ruins your taste when it comes to the sound of anything.
 
From what I've managed to hear myself so far...

4 Cylinders - R400 (Caterham)
6 Cylinders - 997 GT3RS
8 Cylinders - 360 Challenge Stradale
10 Cylinders - Tie between Gallardo & Carrera GT
12 Cylinders - Zonda S Roadster
 
Unfortunately, i havnet heard too many V10's and V12's going at it in person :( And i dont think youtube videos are enough to properly represent what they are capable of
 
4cylinders: Honda S2000 AP1(F20C) // Civic TypeR (K20A2)
5cylinders: Focus RS 2.5T(i guess?!)
6cylinders: Golf R32 MK IV (just for the sound...)
8cylinders: AstonMartin V8 Vantage
10cylinders: Lambo Gallardo LP560
12cylinders: Zonda F (best sound ever...)
Rotary: RX7 FC
 
4cyl - rover k series, and not just in the elise and caterham, rarely do i hear a four pot i like but these ones seem to be the few that dont sound like a dull fart.
6cyl - old jaguar :) and damn my pontiac v6 sounds great too
8cyl - something american and a few decades old, i dont think not many modern v8s sound too good after all the pipes and fussy bits killing the sound but the holden/vauxhall v8 note in the monaro sounds nice

A nice K-series does sound pretty good actually, my mate's Elise has just an air filter and a performance exhaust and sounds fantastic, it's a very raw sound.
 
Car's I have heard in real life.
1 Cylinder: TGB 101S
Honourable Mention: Toyota Camry 3S-FE
4 Cylinder: Toyota MR-2 Turbo
6 Cylinder: Ford XR6
8 Cylinder: 6.0 Vette Engine (LS7?) with exhaust system.

Didn't give my list a lot of thought :P
 
inline 4 --- 1998 integra typer r with a mugen twin loop catback, and header
v-6--- nissan 350z with the nismo catback
I-6--- 2JZ turbo supra with tubular manifold, and 4" straight pipe into a HKS single muffler
small V8--- ferrari 360 modena with kreissieg exhaust
large v8--- kenne bell supercharged LSX in a corvette with longtube headers, and a corsa exhaust

v10--- (vipers sound like crap to me) lambo gallardo or carrera gt
v-12--- i dunno, any of the ferraris sound real sexy lol
 
I'll have to revise my V12 sound choice - I'd completely forgotten how epic the McLaren F1 road car sounds.

It wasn't specifically because of it (the sound in that race wasn't particularly good - Tiff Needell's test of the McLaren on old Top Gear back in the early 90s was much better) but it did remind me of the car again which I'd forgotten about.

But it does sound way better than the Enzo I'd previously picked.
 
4 Cylinder: Not sure, haven't heard a lot I liked; a bit partial to my Si.
6 Cylinder: Honda NSX-R's 3.2L V6
8 Cylinder: BMW M3 4.0L V8
10 Cylinder: Tough choice. Gotta be a toss up between the Carrera GT 5.7L V10 & the LP560-4 5.2L V10.
12 Cylinder: Murcielago LP 6.5L V12; specifically, out of the LP670-4 SV.
 
4 cyl - Fiat Cinquecento Sporting (with Turbo conversion and Race exhaust done by Novitec)
6 cyl - VW Golf III/VW Corrado VR6 2.8/2.9 ltr with or without race-airintake/exhaust
8 cyl - F430
10 cyl - M5/M6
12 cyl - Murcielago LP640

Sorry if this thread is old, I'm just very into sound produced by engines. So I thought I would include my opinion. Again sorry if this is to late.

4Cyl - More than the sound of V-10's I dislike the sound of Inline 4's, Subaru Flat 4's don't bother me the same way for some reason, they have a bass note to them or something. The built Boxer in this car sounds angry, worked over Subie's I've seen sound plenty good in person, I really like the Idle and WOT on this one here.


6Cyl- E-30 BMW 2.7L I6 (Thats what was available in the US anyways, I'm not sure where this car is from, though it sounds about right so I'll use it.) Sounds even better if your actually sitting in the car. I love these cars and the I-6 engine in them, it sounds less tame than other larger displacement I-6 motors, that's just my opinion though, I just have a thing for these.


8Cyl- DOHC 32V S/C 4.6L Ford V8 as seen in '03-'04 Mustang Cobras. This one has a Kenne Bell supercharger, which adds to the insanity, not only is outrageous noise coming from the tailpipes, it also screams on approach from under the hood. I've been in love with these since I'd found out about them. They sound plenty good stock IMO as well.


10Cyl- I will say, something about the sound of V-10 engines really turn me off. Be it a Viper or a M5 I just don't like the sound of it it. However, I can't argue with the sound of this Renault F1 V-10 on the engine dyno. (You can only see the 9th/10th injectors and trumpets in some shots, the camera is focused on 8 of the ten most of the time, it's definitely a 10 not an 8.)


12Cyl- Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 Used in WWII P-51-D Mustangs, as well as Spitfires. These things make my hair stand up in person at an airshow, it really sounds better in person, just amazing sound. I guess this is like a big block V-12:dunce: haha..

 
For a V8 it would have to be the ferrari 308 with out a doubt:tup:[/CENTER][/CENTER]
 
4 cylinder- Lotus Exige
6 cylinder- Porsche GT2
8 cylinder- Corvette ZR-1
10 cylinder- Carrera GT
12 cylinder- ZonderF
 
4 - Dont really hear a lot of them, either a ford sourced for the Caterham or a K20 from either the civic or Atom
6- Although Ive never heard it in person, the XK120 sounds amazing. The 5.9L cummings with the right exhaust system sounds wicked too. 2JZ's dont sound special to me for some reason
8 - Its really hard to choose just 1, even two really. Just about any SB V8 with some shorty headers and no mufflers. Mainly Nascar V8's which are 400 blocks with shorter strokes and Higher RPM's.
10 -CGT by far
12- Lambo V12's or AMG's 6.3L in a zonda

8 pot - 430 Scud
10 pot - old F1 V10's still get me
12 pot - Current AMG engines
