So I'm currently running the Amatuer All Japan GT Champ. If all goes well, I plan on doing the save/reload trick to win either the Calsonic Skyline or the Zexel GTR. My other option would be to just buy the Nismo Penzoil Skyline & go for the Denso Supra prize car. what would you folks choose any why?

Go for the Denso Supra. Under no circumstances should you pay for the Pennzoil Skyline, because it and the Zexel version drive like bricks. The only Skyline racecar that handles at all is the Calsonic, and it's not as fast or as fleet as the Supra.

Welcome to GTPlanet.

My Calsonic Skyline constantly destroys NSX's, especially in Endurance races. MR's have a massive tendancy to handle like crap coming out of corners, too.

Calsonic is the best, haven't gotten the Zexel on this save yet, and the Pennzoil..Well, it's not bad, but at the same time it's not good.

Challenge yourself, use the Penzoil. Get the Denso Supra, though. It's the one of the best JGTC cars in the game.

In out right speed the Supra has the aerodynamics but in overall handling, stopping the calsonic out does it every time. I have all of them, only because I wanted them all. I love the calsonic without a doubt. In actual lap times there isn't much in it between the Denso and Calsonic. It boils down to setup. Tweek the gear ratios on the Calsonic right and it can reach 250kph as quick as the supra but then the supra begins to pull away slightly as mentioned.

So for me it is the calsonic overall

Bog all wrong with the Zexel...

With all the JGTC Skylines, use manual gears and upshift before 6000rpm.

That's a pretty silly thing to say. MANY things can consistantly destroy the NSX's, if you're talking about the AI.

If you're not talking about the AI, then the NSX's are faster than the Skylines. Compare the Raybrig NSX to the Calsonic Skyline. When upgraded, the Raybrig has over 100 more HP, and a better power/weight ratio.

And what are you smoking if you think a Skyline handles better than an NSX? MR's are the best handling cars in the game.

hmm everyone seems to be saying that the calsonic skyline is better at handling but i found it to be quite the opposite i chose the pennziol nismo over the calsonic :odd: but the zexel does it for me! looks good and handles just as good as whichever one is better out of the pennzoil and calsonic! it might just be my driving style that makes me think the pennziol is better!

Some great responses.
It seems as if my choice should be determined by my driving style or just personal preference. I find I'm partial to lighter, more nimble cars. e.g.- I seem to be one of the few people who actually likes the Vertigo.

BTW, nice avatar, neon_duke. Gotta love those tiBooks!;)

i agree...NSXs are better than any skyline....in performance, handling and looks

but if you want a skyline i would go for the Penzziol first, Zexel second and Calsonic third...

theyre all good cars but the Calsonic is a little harder to tune to get max performance but the other two work great straight away...but the Calsonic looks the best

if i had to depend on one only to win a hard race, it would be the Penzziol

just my opinion

MR's still have a massive tendancy to oversteer and smash into walls at the end of turns. I've never personally tried to adapt and compensate for this, because most of the MR's that do that can be beaten by one of my other cars that I can drive pretty well.

I can only say "!" to that...

MR is the quickest drivetrain in GT3. If you match two cars of the same power and weight - or even just PWR - the MR one will win every time.

They don't oversteer, so much as the driver puts in too much steering input. An MR is easier to turn than any other drive type because the turning moment is around the centre of mass.

I'm glad i started reading these boards, because i had always just assumed that all the JGTC skylines were exactly the same apart from livery, same with supras and nsx's.

Just how different are they? i cant say i noticed any, thats why i assumed they were the same.

The Pennzoil has a little more power, because it's fatter (483hp, 1200kg), the Calsonic and Loctite are the same (461hp, 1100kg).

My favourite JGTC Skyline? For looks, has to be the Pennzoil, for actualy performance, I'd have to say the Calsonic, it's a really good car.

Follow up:
I won the All Japan Championship and got the Denso Supra without having to reload. Maybe I should try to win the Calsonic by using the Supra? Hmmm...

I'm sorry to all those people that dislike the Skyline, but I wouldn't trade the Pennzoil Nismo GTR for any of the JGTC cars. I just love the combo of hp, looks, torque, drivability, and of course, its huge so no one can pass if u fudge up.

I won't fight you for it. I don't like anything about it.

No surprise here, I would go with the Calsonic. In all my time using it, I have had nothing short of success. Maybe I choose my spots to race it wisely, but I like it for looks, and it suits my driving style nicely.

its where u save before the last race then when u win the championship and win the car if its not the car you want you reload the game and win the championship again and try to get the car u want....and if u dont u reload again etc.

Why doesnt the calsonic look like the calsonic in real life...in real life it has wider arches and a short and lower front:confused:

im just gonna say this:

CALSONIC

its without a doubt the best jgtc skyline however the pennzoil doesnt handle like a brick if u drive it right;) ive won more races with that car than any other...the rear is pretty lose well that is what happens with rear wheel drive high power race cars...just handle it...:)

I must be setting the Rayberg NSX completely wrong then. I would love to try your settings. When tuned to around 650hp mark, can't remember exactly off hand, the best lap time I can get out of that car is a 1:30.2xx at Tokyo R246. While I've run 1:28.5xx in the Calsonic.

I do agree the NSX will turn in slightly better at lower speeds (under 100kph) but the Calsonic turns much better at higher speeds, go figure.
