I'd subscribe to more, but Podcasts aren't terribly friendly with my dial-up connection.

Nope. At least, not yet – all podcasts that are currently out are free (they're usually paid by advertisement within the podcasts). In the future, you might have to pay for some, but I imagine they'll mostly stay free (like radio).

No, because then it would be impossible to listen to on a portable digital music device. Podcasts are more like downloadable radio – they’re simply MP3 files of people talking about whatever, and you download them, and listen to them whenever you want. It’s like TiVO radio.

Especially now that they have vid it doesn't make sense to me... Now if they had WiFi and could watch streaming video and record it that would be bad ass.

Erm, Podcasts are simply MP3 files – they can have talk, music, whatever on them, whatever an MP3 file can hold. They’re simply MP3 files that you can download. There’s no point in streaming them, because that’s worse – by downloading them, you can watch them whenever you want, no matter where you are.

Video Podcasts are simply movie files that are downloaded to your HD.

I really don’t understand what you’re making of them. They’re just files, like the rest of your music collection.

But why give them a fancy name of podcasts? especially the CAST part. It's like Broadcast which I associate for streaming.

it's a broadcast that you download to a player. In the name's sense, it would be an iPod.

Give it a break.

My first podcast was "Gaming Steve". His website introduced me to podcasts. After listening to couple of the episodes, I like it.

Even cooler are the video podcasts. I didn't even look into them before, but I read that band I like, blur, was supposed to have video podcasts soon, so I checked it out. I've tried edmunds.com's show on the Skyline from Tokyo Motor Show, Some WRC highlights amongst other cool car stuff, ABC News, and they are all free. Good stuff. 👍

It's because of the subscription and episodic nature of the medium. Punter creates Podcast, and listeners download it. It's EXACTLY like Sage described it: TiVo for your iPod.

I listen to Gareth Jones on Speed and the New York Giants podcasts. I'm semi-actively looking around for other ones to listen to.

Can we move this thread to one of the entertainment forums? Movies and TV or Music? Because this really isn't computers and technology any more than discussing the latest movie you watched on streaming netflix.

I've been hitting the ACE broadcasting network pretty hard:
- The Adam Carolla Show
- Penn Gillette's Sunday School
- Carcast

And I've enjoyed a few episodes of:

- Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend
- ACE on the House

I've been listening to the Adam Carolla Show for quite a while (since Theresa was on the show - pretty much the beginning of the podcast). It's pretty friggin' fantastic. An unbelievable amount of entertainment cranked out by a tiny number of people. It's really something special, you should give it a listen if you get a chance.

Drum And Bass Arena
A State of Trance
Friendly Fire - Newstalk 1010
Technique Recordings.

Newly Discovered;

Mind Mashers (DnB)
State of Mind (DnB)
Trance Around the World (Trance)
Primal Nature Radio (DnB/Chill)

A lot of these are found on live-streaming websites/apps on your phone and stuff like the TuneIn radio app (<3)

Really good stuff. It's the best way to catch up on new music whenever you want, cause it's so portable.

Drunk Tank by Rooster Teeth is the only one I've listened to and I don't listen to it anymore as I prefer to listen to music rather than people talking about random stuff for an hour.

It depends what you define Podcast as really.

I mean, from what I know, it's defined as either a talk-show or a music-show.

I use the Tunein app too man, it's awesome 👍

At college, I'm always listening to like American rap and stuff, but I'm not into podcasts, I've never understood the point of 'em.

Music's enough for me.

They're like a weekly/monthly wrap-up of the best tunes. So if you can't listen to radio 24/7 you can tune in to one and keep up with some of the latest music.

As well as the talk-show ones, where they do reviews and what not.

The Adam Carolla Show
