Depends how I feel by the time it comes out and the cost of cars on offer.

Lancer Evolution I.
SilEighty.
2nd gen RX-7.

Something along those lines. Although if I'm feeling a little crazy... A VW Beetle or another car of that era.

Starting Car?

How about a 71' Dodge Challenger?

I would prefer to start with almost anything Brittich or American, as opposed to the Forced-Japaneese starting Car of Past GT games.

Hmm. In GT3 you could start (as in Day 1 purchase, without going near licences or Arcade Mode) with a Chrysler PT Cruiser or VW Beetle 2.0 GLS as two of your eleven purchaseable cars. Not very "forced-Japanese".

I'll go straight to the endurance events, see what low-cost events there are (e.g. The MX-5 event in GT3) and get a car to suit. Get the license for it and win (hopefully) the enduro. Get the money and go buy a good car.

Yeah, same here. with possibly 500+ cars, there's no tellin' what's hanging around in the throwback lot. I'll just wait and see. I bet some of you, who think you already know what you'll pick will quickly change your minds when you see what else is available.

well, since you start out with very little power with any car that you buy, i would go with a stock MINI cooper. It will own the turns. BTW I doubt they are going to have low-prices GTRs that you can afford as your first car.

i always start w/ and MX-5 Miata. i might get a used RX-7 this time around. Maybe if they have it, a Neon or impala. i would like to get an american car first, but GT3 had no good, cheap ones. European cars are too expensive to start with.

You would get hammered if you started with a Mini. In GT1 you could start with older Supras (over 200Bhp) older Mazda RX-7's and the like. GT2 expanded on thoes with older Skylines and I think ther was even an old Lancer you could buy for under 10k. So why that would change in GT4 I don't know, it's a pretty good place to start because the cars not so slow it's too borin but it's not so fast it beats the early competition.

^^^ That may be the way to go... my first actual car... Gen II RX-7 Turbo 1987... arctic white, oh the sweetness of your first car.

Of course this is all mega-speculation til the game releases and we know how much $ and what's available.

There were eleven (count 'em) cars you could buy to start GT3 with your 18,000cr. They were:

Chrysler PT Cruiser (17980)
VW Beetle (15930)
Daihatsu Cuore/Mira (11140)
Daihatsu Sirion/Storia (13900)
Mazda Demio (14660)
Mazda MX-5 ’89 1.8 (16900)
Mazda MX-5 ’89 1.6 (17000)
Suzuki Alto (12220)
Toyota Trueno (13550)
Toyota Yaris 1.3 (12880)
Toyota Yaris 1.5RS (14530)

No Lancers or Skylines.

I dunno, what I'd choose, but I know it won't be a miata beacuase it's been my first car in all the gt games so far, but if possible I'd like to get a used 3rdgen mazda rx-7.

I seem to recall my first car in GT2 was a 1992.5 Supra TwinTurbo R...

I hope that older cars cost less money. Becuase in GT3 cars that were like 1990s or so were still like 20,000. That sucked. Maybe this would fall under the used car catorgory so maybe im talking out of my a$$.

i dunno what i would choose, but imagine if pd randomised the used car lot so everyone got a different used car lot...and after a period of time the used car lot would shuffle because 'ai' people buy and sell cars...another thing that would be cool is if those cars that you couldnt get because of whatever reason ends up racing you because an 'ai' person bought that car

The fastest car available for purchase in GT2, BTW. I used it for the second time I played GT2. My first car was the 94 Prelude VTEC. It was explained to me that this car is the same vehicle as the 91 Prelude seen in the GT4 car gallery. I might use it, for old times sakes since I used it for my first car in GT1 as well.

I like my first car (if ever will make it to GT4):
(according to price range)
-1985 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR
=or=
-1992 Acura Integra GS-R (my real life car)
=or=
-1993 Honda Civic SiR II

:)

I've always sorta been disappointed that I could do really well in races, and my times compared to some on GT3Times and Racing Line aren't bad either, but I can never gold most license tests. At best I gold all of B except for one, and that's about it. So a bonus car won't help me.

Guess I'll be trawling the used car garage for a while searching for something shiny. That'll be fun in itself.

I might do the gold thing or maybe look for a good RWD car to start things off.

Do not feel disheartened Eagle. The license tests and time trials are more a test of ones patience than skill.
You however get a huge feeling of achievment once you actually get gold.
I think from reading one of your many posts that you say you have been playing GT3 for about a year now.
It took me about about 18 months before I achieved all gold.
I find beating the set times a large part of the challange of GT games, however I understand that other people set themselves different challanges.
There are some people here that set themselves to be the fastest possible at license tests, time trials, lap times etc, I am not one of these people.
I however believe that it is a worth while goal to try to finish all three GT games to 100 %.
How can you say you get fun from having done only a certain amount when you have not experienced all that GT3 has to offer.
The endurances races teach patience and being able to duplicate the same line lap after lap. Both these skills are a great aid for getting Gold on license tests and Time Trials.
The PD cup in standard cars teaches pit stradegy and tyre choice.
The professional Races teach you the skills of car upgrades and tuning choices.
I will say someone who has completed GT3 to all gold has achieved a feat that should be applauded by all.
To me it shows patience, ability and skill.
I understand some people will never complete the game 100%, but please do not attact me for urging people on to get there.
The huge sense of achievment for youself when you get there is well worth it.

I'll have had GT3 for 3 years in August, I'm 98% complete (haven't touched a time trial). I never really had the patience for the license tests, I enjoy racing other cars and people, so I never sat down and applied myself fully. Ironically if you look at my records you'll see that when I golded the first 7 B license tests it was exactly a year ago, to the very day. I try from time to time but never with any real effort.

Yes, I'm missing the Skyline at Trial Mountain. It's a pain.

GT - Honda Prelude Vtec '94 (year is a guess)
GT2 - One of those small 4WD's, i think the Pajero Mini.
GT3 - AE86
GT4 - Probably another Sprinter, but I'll definitely be checking out all the old Euro models first.

GT - Mazda RX-7

GT2 - Mitsubishi FTO (Red, no spoiler)

GT3 - VW NewBeetle (Yellow)

GT4 - Good things come to those who wait (and see)
