Although I used to play Indycar on the PC years ago, I didn't get into GT until GT5 came out. Bought my PS3 just for this title. I'm 47 and hating that I missed previous versions. I LOVE THIS GAME!

GT3!

I remember having trouble beating some of the first races.

1 Year later i decided to grind enough to get a turbo. Now i have a Polphony002 (Yes it is called that) and a Viper GTS, and is almost done! :)

Can't remember how old I was. My mom's friend worked in a hospital ward... someone donated a PS1 and a 'Demo 1' disk that had come free with a magazine. Turns out the hospital ward already had a PS1 and that disk, so my mom's friend gave them to me to keep, Demo 1 containing a demo of GT1.

At the same time, I saw a Subaru Impreza WRC car on the front of a magazine in a shop, I bought the magazine, took it home... then played the demo, then what car do I find in GT1? The exact Impreza... imprezzive at the time considering I was still learning a lot about cars.

Then my mom's friend gave me a spare copy of GT2... I found a Nissan Skyline R33 GTR in white and made it my mission to tune it as much as possible, doing the same sunday cup over and over again for money.

Then one day I'm walking down the street and what do I see? A white R33 GTR just like my one in the game... and THAT was the point where I fell in love with Gran Turismo, that's when it sunk in, that this game was as close to real life driving as I was going to get for a long time.... then a few years later my friend bought GT3, I bought GT4, and of course we all moved onto the PS3.

The end.

First GT experience evar??

Eight years ago. Gran Turismo 3. Toyota Vitz. I saw my cousin driving the Vitz, a car that I recognized. I thought that the graphics looked very real at the time, so I asked if I could have a go. Being a Vitz, there wasn't much power, and the fact that I was on Super Speedway, so I didn't crash at all.

I looked at GT4's cover art and thought damn this game is going to suck and be boring. Needless to say the disc never left my PS2's disc tray.

I still remember getting GT1 in its original case when I was 5. Back then, I could only dream of getting the fast cars in the game, like the Dodge Viper.

I must have been 5 when my parents brought home a playstation underground demo disk which had a GT2 demo on it. The two cars that were availavle to drive were a'98 Ford Mustang GT and a Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus. (At least I think that's what it was called.) The only track available was the full Rome circuit. At first I was just lost to the whole idea of driving. (I was fine with naming cars and drivers, especially CART drivers of the same era.) One thing I do remember that intrigued me the most, is if you hit the back of a car, the lights on the back of the car turn on! (SHOCKER)

When I was between 7-12 my grandad had GT3 and every time we went to visit him we had a family race. My younger brother and I against my dad and grandad.. Lots of fun.. That got dad motivated to buy a PS2 and after a year I had like 98% done and absolutely loved the games.. Finishing Tokyo Geveva game.. Forget what it's called.. But that helped BIG TIME!..

HOLY S***, crazy nostalgia moment.

GT1 in '99, when I was 9 I think, went to my friend's place. He gives me a corvette stingray in arcade mode on High Speed Ring, took me ~5 mins to complete a lap :ouch:.

Since then been in love with the game, have had all of them and overplayed all of them too haha.

I saw the first two GT games on the original PlayStation when a friend was playing them, but I never played them. The first I played was Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. I messed with it for a bit but was frustrated and gave up. Up to that point my racing game experience had been with arcade-types so I transitioned into GT poorly and didn't bother. It was some years later that I tried this sort of game again, with Forza Motorsport 2, and then went on to FM3 before picking up GT5.

I remember first playing GT3 at my aunties place, and her husband was a huge sim racer, and he thought me how to play and showed me all the cars, good times 👍

Awesome thread!

My first Gran Turismo experience was with a demo disc that came with a friends PS1 way back in 1998. The demo let you drive a Subaru Impreza or a Corvette GS in Clubman Stage R5. You could also see other cars such as the Viper, the NSX and I can't remember which else (though you couldn't play with them).

The game was already released but I had no idea it existed until I played the demo. Two months later I got my first Playstation with Gran Turismo included.

And since then I've been playing this game... Good memories.

My very first game was the 1st gran turismo when I was maybe 6 or 7 I dont remember. It was love at first sight......

My first experience with GT was way back with the PS1 Pizza Hut Demo with GT1. I was hooked on GT1 from that demo, I wanted to find it ASAP.

I brought GT1 in '98 and boy, that game was a challenge from playing NFS3, Test Drive and Crusi'n, I always spun out in the NSX, Viper and even the RX7. Even though I wanted to drive these cars, the GT world taught me how to drive the cars properly at a young age of 8, and after practicing with each car class, I was almost consider a semi-pro. Also with my skills, GT also educated me in depth about cars, their history, their mechanics and futhered my car collection twice as much, before I played GT and other racing games. I still looking for cars like Venturi Alantique 300/400, Caterhams, older Lan Evos 1-6, GC8 Imprezas STis and many more.

Thanks to this great series, I'm also a Skyline fanatic. I always tore trough the toy asiles looking for Skyline GTRs R32 and R33s, but no prevail :(. I founded my first 1:64 GTR R32 as a Hot Wheels 2002 First Editions APT Skyline R32 when I was on the hunt for the R34 from GT2. I still have that R32 to this day as I speak. :D

So I have to say once again. Thank you GT, Kaz and everyone at PD. :D:tup:

It was in 1997 just after release. A friend of mine was heavily into pirating games and I just used an Amiga 1200 for games and a PC for other stuff.

I was at his house and said look at this and he was playing GT1 on his chipped Playstation. I thought it looked out of this world. He said he had just got it from one of his computer shows and I could have a copy if I wanted it.

I went straight to my local Game shop and bought a second hand Playstation and asked if they had GT on the shelves. "Not out yet" was his reply, "should be out in a couple of weeks".

I returned home and took the Playstation straight to my friends who chipped it there and I had a copy of the game from him.

I took it home and I can still remember trying to pass one of the final Licences for even a bronze at Grand Valley. Boy was that tough at the time. It took me ages to get it and I have never felt so good at accouplishing somthing in a game as I did then.

When it finaly hit the shores in the UK I bought a copy, which I still have to this day. That was my one venture into pirated games but it did make me GT nut so maybe it's acceptable in the end.

When I was about 9 years old with my cousin playing GT3. I was racing a red GT-One race car, I cant remember what he was driving. The track was surrounded by sand/desert (unsure of track name). I absolutely sucked to say the least ^.^

1997, japanese PS1 disc... went to a game store dozen of times, used to buy crappy racing games while I was searching for my "perfect" racing game... nothing spectacular since TNFS (The Need For Speed) and the guy at the store always said the same to me:

- Hey boy, try this one... "gran turismo"... its good, trust me!

Then me:

- NAH! I'll take this NFS V-rally whatever instead.

This happened dozen of times. Then one day, I decided to try the turismo thingy. Me and 2 friends at home, turned the PS1 on... and then, a wild intro appeared. WTF?! Holy mother, this game have a WAGON? Legacy Wagon, OMFG! Dat intro...

Then, we started to play the game... Simulation mode, woooow! So many cars, omg this game have dealers, whoa, whoa! Look at those graphics, this reflection on the cars, OMG!

Still remember my first car: R32 Skyline GTS-t '89 (or it was a GTS-m?) in the most beautiful R32 color: Gun Gray Mettalic. Went for a drive on Grand Valley East. It was a complete tragedy... the physics, the driving, so awesome.

We were already mindblown by the game, then.

WE WATCHED THE REPLAY...
Mind =

we passed the next 12 hours playing, watching replays, screaming and drooling: this is the best game in the whole universe. And it was, until GT2. Same reaction occured, except the whole "discovery" feeling.

And here I am. Since 1997, addicted.

I remember when my father was playing GT1 on PlayStation 1 . It was something fantastic when i saw my father playing that game with soo much fun . And i remember when i tryed to do something with that PS1 memory stick and deletet all saves of GT1 , it was the worst day ever for me, if u know what i mean ;(

gt1 the demo that came whit the ps magzine and then 2nd one just blow me away eveything and more that you wanted more tracks more cars more tune'ing options wheels body kits and even trade cars whit your m8's whit merroy card and then came a long a cheat for inft money and more wow and then gt3 looked good but was lacking in so many things then gt5 came looks awesome and slowing get'ing better over time but gt6 like gt2 and gt4 will be the dayy of all gt games in till the ps4

My first experience was GT3, worked my way up then started grinding the superspeedway endurance till I had 3 or 4 formula cars. Gave my buddy a bunch of cars by loading my gamesave on his ps2 and then put his card in a saved the game(or something like that). Kinda got bored since I could beat any race with my F034/S or whatever it was and got myself an Eskudo Pikes Peak and started doing wheelies on the test track lol!

Mine was in the most random of places! It was in the Philipenes when I was only 7 Years old! They had an Original Playstation set up in Town it was an open town cafe with TV's and Two Playstation Consoles. I was there for hours whilst my mum was across the street visting relatives. My first GT Race was in a Mitsubishi 3000 If I can remember correctly on the Special Stage Route 5 Track :)

I remember reading about gt1 before it was released in magazines. GT1 was a quantum leap over anything seen before in racing games. A kid at school got a pirated copy in hong kong over xmas 1997, but I had to wait until may for mine as i didn't have a chipped playstation. It was preordered, and I remember may 8 receiving the game and the dualshock as well (the original dualshock was first released at the same time as gt1). So not only was it the first experience of a new game but of analog as well. After that I remember playing gt2 in a store a few times but I never bought it as my interest waned. I didn't buy gt3 until 2002/3 and although i enjoyed it and bought the tokyo/geneva concept as well I skipped gt4 entirely. Bought gt5 around last summer and have a g27 and seat/stand etc but only really play it every couple of weeks due to time constraints/fuss of setting it up.

I think once you get a bit older it's hard to feel the anticipation that you do as a teen, but that may 8 was one happy day for me.

I had GT4. Which I already told you about. First car was a Miata if I remember correctly. Then I did something stupid. I downgraded to a Diahatsu Cube car thingy. Dumbest mistake of my GT life. Getting up the ranks was hard as hell. I always used underpowered cars. One of the things I missed with GT5 was the amount of money they give you starting out. 20k. In GT4 it was 10k. The challenge to grind to upgrade your cars was gone, yet I said I wouldn't make the same mistake this time like GT4. Eventually GT4 got good when I ended up getting my Ford GT and griding that one race that gave you the Toyota Rally Car and selling it for 250k each time.

Cannot remember which gt it was ive played them all since day one but the racing mod toyota corolla ae86 did it for me

First experience was at my cousin's house with the GT2 demo disc. Didn't do too well (came last). Fast forward a few years, rented a PS2 with GT3 and the rest is history.

My first experience was gt1 I rented it along with nfs hot pursuit with my friends.

At first I wasnt keen so I went to my place to play nfs, after several hours I went to my mates place to see what I was missing and I was in a trance with this game I was hooked from the first moment.
